So if you have actually been following the 600m dollar show, Chris Roberts just announced that squadron 42 is undergoing its final polish passes but he wont give a release date until the gold master is ready. He also provided us with a half hour video of squadron 42 in modernity. They also noted this means they can stop developing S42 fulltime and move on to bringing over new assets and UI from 42 to star citizen properly.
  • If you missed it they also announced and showed off:
  • The new large ground distribution hubs
  • Basebuilding that will begin production in 2024Q1
  • Large group raiding on said distribution centers
  • Cargo elevators that allow you to bring up gear and vehicles
  • New starmap that isin't dogshit (arguably the most requested feature in star citizen aside from actual content)
  • 10+ new ships incoming within the year so far

So kiwis, is the ride finally over in 2024? what are your thoughts?
personally I think the audio mixing of some of the characters is off but otherwise it looks great.

I still don't get how a kickstart for one game created a completely differently named game. How does one even affect the other?
as I understand it the original kickstarter was for Wing Commander 2, which is now Squadron 42, kickstarter promises then extended into Wing Commander the MMO creating star citizen as we know it.
So now you have 1300 people working on chris roberts game and a life support team of people adding anemic features to a struggling star citizen at the same time.
Having followed the progress closely since COVID development for star citizen has definitely begun speeding up and major releases are coming multiple times a year now. Now they say they are trying to deliver all of this within 12 months. I'm sure a lot of people can be bitter that the MMO side was left starved for years to work on a singleplayer game but atleast the game is being actively iterated on now.

SQ42 absolutely needs to succeed for Star Citizen to succeed as well.

So do I need to dump a ton of real money to get ships for this? If so, hard pass.

What will actually happen is during the "final polishes" they will realise a core part of the game just isn't working and needs to be redone. Oh but don't worry pay piggies because for the low low price of $200 you can help us fix it and we can get it released some time in the next 2 years, for reals this time.

By the time Star Citizen comes out Humanity will have already achieved FTL space-travel but hey, I'm sure my great-great-great-grandchildren will enjoy it once it comes out.
“Great-great-great grandpa why would I want to play some space game when I could just go outside and fly my real rocket ship with my friends?”

I'm kind of surprised we don't have a Community Watch Thread going on about Star Citizen. I remember watching the Something Awful Crew be all in on SC and then over time slowly just getting more and more bitter about it till the thread was nothing more then mocking people who bough into the dream of SC/ wasted their money.

45 dollars is the current minimum buy in for star citizen, and I would genuinely wait a year to see if raids, server meshing and cargo elevators actually come out.
99% of the other ships and ground vehicles that arent some backer exclusive reskin are available using ingame money that is pitifully easy to earn at the moment.
Newly released ships get added to the ingame dealerships after an exclusivity window of a month or two.

I would feel more remorse about the project being scuttled than any goon being made a sucker. The project itself outlived that worthless slime lowtax and modern SA can't point fingers and laugh at anyone.

People talk about Todd Howard's sweet sweet lies, but the motherfucker looks innocent when compared to Chris Robert's. Final polish my ass, probably gonna take another 10 years for the single player campaign, and when it comes out, it's gonna he a piece of shit.

This isn't even the most egregious example of that happening. At least in this case the game is a spin-off/related to the game that got funded and so is tangentially related to it. Sometimes there isn't even that excuse:

aka the thing that they should have done from the start.

Been following this on and off for a laugh and it's been going on for so long that the demographics of the refunds subreddit changed from mostly people like me watching it from afar to bitter backers who realized it's a scam couple years in to people looking for a hint of kool aid to jump back in.

Gaming industry provides too much milk for SC to stay relevant.

Damn, the last person that hyped up their piece of shit as feature complete and just needing a polish was 343 and Halo: Infinite and that sucked balls

I want to further add that when SA decided Star Citizen was shit, the Games forum banished SC discussion to its own subforum, which eventually led to Derek fucking Smart showing up to scream about suing Chris Roberts for false advertisement or some gay shit, making a huge tl;dr post with a bunch of dumb claims and demands, because he had gotten banned from the SC forums for being an annoying faggot lol. a bunch of goons unironically jumped on his fucking bandwagon after he showed up - a testament to how choked with troons and newfags that place had gotten - so for a long time, SA had a very active subforum that consisted entirely of Derek Smart publicly fantasizing about destroying Chris Roberts in court while a crowd of retards cheered him on.

for those unfamiliar with Derek Smart and his history with SA: Smart is a web 1.0 game developer and proto-lolcow who gained notoriety for starting enormous flame wars over stupid bullshit including but not limited to his barely functional games. he was a laughingstock on early SA leading Lowtax and Fragmaster to make this classic and write various articles (1) (2) trolling him to hopefully (and successfully) elicit one of his famous legal threats. Smart was of course known to never let go of a grudge, so for a long time SomethingAwful was a mainstay of his fantasies of destroying all of his enemies forever, until almost a decade later when he showed up in the Star Citizen subforum and the goons not only welcomed him, but actively joined him in turning the subforum into ground zero for his latest windmill charge. wild.

Wow it only took them seventy five years to almost maybe complete the single player spinoff to the MMO. I can't wait to not play it.
