The fact that Kate Bishop is their first major DLC says a lot about how fucking out of touch everyone involved with this fucking game is.

Was she even mentioned in Agents of Shield or anything? Why would any normie give a fuck about her? Why would any comic book fan give a fuck about this bastardized version of her?

I get it's platform exclusive, but holy shit Spider-Man should be out by now so they could at least recoup some of the PS4 players.
I'll be interested in seeing what happens when the Spidey DLC comes out. Sure it'll probably get a boost for a short while, but at the same time, if you really want Spider-Man... there's already 2 games on the PS4/5 you could be playing. Not sure why you'd want to play as him in a substantially crappier game instead.

You're right that Kate Bishop being the first DLC character is baffling though.
War Machine is going to be DLC too. They're literally taking iron man's character model and editing the skin so he's black. It's a reskin of an already existing character and they're charging $20 for it.

This is like EA on crack levels of micro transaction greed.
I'm fairly sure Spider-Man is also going to be a Black Widow reskin, or at least recycling some of her animations. Just watch some of her gameplay, her moveset is... suspiciously Spidey-like.

Wait they're going to charge for War Machine? I figured War Machine would be free like Kate Bishop.

God damn Square Enix. That's fucking low.

Apparently the Hawkeye show that's going to be on Disney+ is actually a Kate Bishop show I just found out.

So between her and Kamala, it seems like this game is being used to try to get people on board for the pozzing of Marvel on Disney+ I guess.

Highly doubt it. The third X men game showed the glaring flaw with such an idea: if your character can have all these abilities you have to craft the story around a generic "superhero" character, the resulting story is usually far more bland then one built around a pre determined character and their power, see also the first x men legends game. And that game simply had 3 different powers, a choose your own would be even more generic.

The main issue with Avengers wont be fixed by different playable characters. The gameplay loop itself is boring, repetitive, and plagued by rushed half baked design with copy paste elements and generic bad guys. The game needs a full re-design to be fun.
The third X Men Game - that Activision one where you pick predetermined characters? - was a mess of development from start to finish. There were horror stories shared around the internet about how no one knew what they were doing. People wanted a City of Heroes kind of thing with it, but they got boring losers because no one on that team could write an interesting protagonist and they had to nix the character creation to save time. I think they actually advertised character creation in the beginning with the announcement, but like I said it was a mess from start to finish.

I dunno man, GTA Online and - to a lesser extent - Red Dead Online are doing just fine with a voiceless protagonist and those are both terribly designed. They even poke fun at it. Plus Avengers seems to have been designed around lobby systems at present. If anything, putting in a self insert would make the game more tolerable. That's my opinion anyways. Kamala detracts a lot from the game because she's such an annoying talks-a-lot. Not only that she's plenty generic on her own to not offend the market, she's bland and boring with an overabundance of annoying. If GTA Online can rake in the big bucks it's doing through monetization despite being a God awful mess of a design then what excuse exactly does Avengers have?

Wait, this fucking trainwreck has DLC? What were they thinking?

Simple, GTAO mostly has shark cards that dumb kids buy just so they can get the deadliest weapon an troll other players, GTAo doesnt sell you the latest update for actual cash nor the latesf cars or weapons. All that can be obtained via game cash by doing heists or selling shit.

The entire model around this game is based on DLC I'm pretty sure. I remember before release they made a big deal about how they were going to add as many Marvel characters to it as they could and then sell DLC skins for them.

Live Service is the way the industry is going sadly.

Isn't this thing like 75 million in the hole right now? It's going be really hard to dig your way out of that one regardless of how expensive the micro transactions are when you have less than 1000 active players.

There's no way.

My guess is they already had too much work done on Kate Bishop, and they already promised Hawkeye and Spider-Man so they will release them.

Then when none of them manage to make any money they'll just abandon the game or try to go free to play.

I wonder if having you create your own character and choose a powerset would have worked better. Basically have your character become mute from the trauma of the initial event - cuts cost on voice actors and adds to the severity of the event - and that the character basically gets roped along because The Avengers offer them protection from some big bad that wants to understand how they attained their powers. Which is usually something AIM likes to do if I remember right. Just have it that AIM is going around collecting everybody that got powers under government contracts from the world over. Maybe even have Magneto hunting them because they aren't pure mutants or something and sees them as a mockery of the mutant plight.

Or something, I dunno. The game was shit, but I feel like Kamala hurt it constantly with her chatter boxing. Each line delivered was money that could have been put elsewhere and/or money not spent that would relax Square Enix into giving it proper development time.
They did that with X men Destiny. It was shit.

Isn't X-men: Destiny the game so shit that it got recalled and destroyed?
Reception for the game wasn't that bad, from what I remember. Mostly lukewarm. It was recalled and destroyed, though, as it (and Too Human) used the Unreal Engine 3 which apparently they didn't have the rights to or some shit.

Miles Morales is a way better character than Kamala Khan, there's no way anything with Kamala Khan could be good.

But the main reason was because the game is called AVENGERS and Kamala is not an Avenger, Miles is still at least a Spider-Man, it'd be like making a Spider-Man game where you play as Squirrel Girl.
Kamala's actually decent in that Avengers and Spider-Man cartoon. She works best as a street level hero and when her writers aren't using her to make cringy political commentary.

Correct. Silicon knights lost against epic games because Dennis dyack was almost as retarded as Tim Sweeney is now. It also coincided with Disney's purpose of marvel, dyack bitched it ruined things also.

Silicon Knights depresses the Hell out of me, Eternal Darkness is one of my all time favorite games, they then proceeded to never make anything near approaching that quality ever again.
