From playing the Beta, this game is absolute trash.

Controls are total dogshit. Slow and awkward. Camera breaks target lock constantly. Enemies shoot you off screen. No sense of how to time parry or evade. From the the tutorial it was supposed to be colored circles, those seem to never show up in a brawl.

Annoying characters which I would forgive if it was fun to play.

Matchmaking is a fucking nightmare...

Graphics range between being decent to last generation...

I think this game would have been benefited from an Ultimate alliance approach. Isometric view with a more robust combat system.

Instead, we are left with this sloppy, cumbersome game. It seems they put a ton of effort into it but it's still mediocre.

I guess certain things can still be smoothed out. But, I don't believe the final version will be significantly better....

Unless your an absolute Marvel fiend, I don't why anyone would play this crap...

Your better off replaying Marvel Spiderman or Arkham Batman games...

+1 for "just ok". It feels like you could really get into the feel of things before you're overwhelmed by a series of cheapshots that you can't reasonably do much about, so you die and try again and hope you're not put into that same situation where you're again swarmed in a way that feels like chance as opposed to you not actively playing properly.

Did any of you play the Hammerhead DLC for Spider-Man PS4, where it was mostly hide-outs you had to take back, but it was significantly harder than the main game and there were way more guns? That's what this entire game felt like. You're pinned into small areas with little cover and nowhere to run and nearly every enemy has a gun that does a ton of damage very quickly, and though you also have ranged attacks, it becomes a matter of trying to time shit in a way that feels more like trial-and-error than ability. The closest newer game I can compare it tois Ghost of Tsushima where you're constantly raped by archers while you're trying to block off guys with swords, but way, way less forgiving than Ghost and it's way more difficult to knock out the people shooting shit. It marred an otherwise mediocre-bordering-on-fun experience for me a lot.

Kamala didn't bug me as much as the guy above me, but I will say she does talk a lot I can see that becoming annoying for some people.
Sounds like a TakeTwo approach then. They make it absurdly unforgiving so that instead of grinding for items you pay real money for the currency to buy it. That said I don't know how much is exclusive to actual currency purchases and what isn't since Laymen Gaming didn't really go into the specifics of the store other than, "You see these? You buy these not earn them." so I have no idea if you can actually earn the currency any other way.

They keep making a point that only cosmetics cost money so I think its just shitty balancing.

Played a Warzone finally. I'm really getting annoyed with the camera. The more I play it the more I hate it. I know people are saying it's a beta but that's for the online systems more than the game itself. I cannot believe they spent three to five years on this. Especially when theres only going to be a handful of characters at launch? What was all this time spent on?

I'm willing to bet there were like three design philosophies to this game.

They never settled on one and we are left with a malformed mess...

It's a shame because there is a good game in it's foundation. The fact that the heroes all play very differently is a great concept. But, the game is horribly hamstrung by it's basic controls.

People saying "it's only a beta". This isn't beta. We are not in an era of testing betas. This is a release demo.

Square is stress testing their servers and getting an idea for future DLC. Thats about it. No time to fix the garbage control. Perhaps they will iron out matchmaking. Whoopdie shit...

You'd be surprised how little that matters.

I mean, I fully expect it to be walked back within 6 months like it always is. But I really don't think this was a conscious thing and was probably just shitty design. Mostly because the game isn't really difficult, just annoying and frustrating.

This. It'd be one thing if it was just straight up shit, licensed games being awful is more the standard them them being good. It's that it's this close to being enjoyable before something ruins the experience.

I don't know if I agree with this though. I seem to be digging it a lot more than most people I'm seeing but a lot of my biggest problems are shit they can easily patch out or tweak (enemies constantly cheap-shotting you, the camera, etc). They probably should have made the entire thing a Thor game as from what I played he was by far the most fun, but no one character was particularly shit.

Maybe I'm just fucking invading from another timeline or something, but the controls were easy to get used to and I had a generally good time playing the beta last week. There's cheap shots for sure, but I'm used to that in games with enemies that shoot projectiles, as fucking infuriating as it is.
The metal gear-esque boss stage was really fun and I ended up playing it several times once I had done pretty much everything I could do. Well, that, and trying and failing to find spiderman's fucking apartment in the Eastern Seaboard stage. My friend was gonna show me, but then forgot to. I ended up wasting a few hours just floating around the city fighting off mooks and finding pretty much every secret aside from the one that I was looking for.

As for big gripes, I know this is supposed to be a "realistic marvel game" but there's a surprising lack of iconic AIM imagery. Most of the enemies that the game throws at you seem to just be Boston Dynamics looking robots and guys in flight suits. Oddly, the enemies that actually do fly don't have the flight suits and instead have the signature AIM beekeeper cylinder.

Something about the field of view in this made me really nauseated whenever the camera turned. Combined with the pedestrian gameplay, terrible voice casting, bad costume designs and focus on Power Paki, this game is firmly in my “Not even for 99% off” list.

This game just makes me jealous that Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 is a Switch exclusive

So far: I think this is the first game I've ever seen that's so momentary. It's painfully average with sprinkles of 'Oh, that's nice'. It's always a moment of decent, not a full level, not a full mechanic, not even a full scene. Just a moment from time to time that are fine. Just fine.

Having to be compared to Insomniac's Spider-Man already did it no favors, but the actual gameplay reveal being so lackluster and then Miles Morales being announced is almost cruel. Too bad, it might've worked with literally any other developer than Crystal Dynamics.
