Seeing all this blow up in Square-Enix's face is rather satisfying, they really should've just stuck with Deus Ex.

They should have done what IO Interactive did.

The game was already dying but I wonder if this will be the fatal bullet.

They are also working on another capeshit game, pulling out now would probably be a bad idea until they release it.

I assume the game, while being a sales and critical disappointment, probably pulls in just enough cash through microtransactions from capeshit consoomers to justify keeping it going.

This probably isn't the type of shit that would effect most of those types. Isn't this really only a big deal if you're a streamer?

Deus Ex got put on ice because Mankind Divided took five years to develop yet sold like shit.
Why exactly did Mankind Divided sell so poorly though? I know there was controversy over the game not having enough content but your average gamer would not have been aware of that at the start.

Did they just wait too long?

Yeah, but they don't need to pull out if the playerbase pulls out first which has been happening. It was stupidly low last I checked, but I don't know what number they would consider pulling the plug on.

For this particular issue, yes only streamers are gonna be particularly bothered by this. But the fact that this is happening at all is a ridiculous security risk and if they're leaking this, it could end up leaking other dumb shit.

- retarded microtransactions in a single player game
- troubled development with rumors of a ton of cut content, and the game indeed feeling like it was half a game
- lukewarm critical reception
- poor marketing; they went hard on the whole 'trans rights' shit that nobody beyond 1% of the population actually cares about and the other stuff they showed didn't seem great
- 5 year wait between games
- Human Revolution itself wasn't exactly a beloved smash hit that people were chomping at the bit for a sequel to

By the time the game came out nobody really cared about it and nothing about the game itself made people care.

It was BLM (Augs Lives Matter).
Also they pulled a Bioware and ignored the player's choice at the end of Human Revolution.
They've added a ugly black woman as a sidekick and replaced Malik with a boring black man.

I actually dont remember that. I remember the aug lives matter stuff, but I actually liked how that was done in game. As opposed to the outside marketing. This was way before it got super fucking intrusive.

Ah, I remembered it being something political. With the Augmented stuff my mind jumped to trans shit, I guess.

If I worked on this game I would definitely be hiring someone to punch up my CV. I'm looking forward to the tell all drama about what it was like working on this project in the months to come.

That I do remember hearing about.

I don't remember that, but I do remember controversy over the phrase "Aug Lives Matter" which the developers absurdly, just completely absurdly tried to claim was coincidence and not a reference to "Black Lives Matter" even though everyone had heard that term by 2016.

Nothing's going to kill interest in a game series beloved by /v/ types faster than injecting Woke politics into it, lol.

5 years is definitely too long a wait for something as niche as Deus Ex.

That's odd to me because I was under the impression Human Revolution actually was a pretty big hit.

By the time the game came out nobody really cared about it and nothing about the game itself made people care.
I certainly didn't care and have still never played it.

To add to this, the game was indeed a fraction of the size of HR, with you stuck entirely in one city for the entire duration aside from a brief trip to the concentration camp for augments, none of the people who were in the first game with you came back, and the whole thing just felt ridiculously ham-handed, complete with an anti-aug politician loving his augged hookers as well as literal police death squads in the streets for the final bit.
I don't even remember that.
They were in-game items and XP boosts, and what's really horrifying is they were literally only the one use. Not per-playthrough. But one use. You lost your save for whatever reason? Too bad, your items are gone.

whats hilarious is that squeenix coulda just made a Marvel Universe jrpg style game with a gacha mechanic and consoomers would have eaten it up.

instead they made this.

The "everybody needs to pre-order to unlock rewards for everyone" didn't do them any favors either

that's why you block it after you see it the first time outside the stream. I wouldn't expect competence from streamers, but it's literally their livelihood, so they should know how that shit works.

The writing is such leagues above all the woke shit, I legit didn't see any problem with mankind divided.
When everybody with robot parts starts randomly going insane one day, all the anti aug hysteria makes perfect sense. It even reminds me of the current anti vaccine sentiment to a degree.
As for the only one canon ending, it's been done before with Invisible War. I didn't particularity have a problem with it.

It did need to be bigger as it felt more like an expansion pack, but what was there was very solid. I blame piss poor marking decisions, pre order plans and high expectations for its failure.

lol Eidos Montreal also did the most boring Tomb Raider game that tanked so hard they had to cancel a bunch of dlcs from the season pass. Nevertheless it got popular with woke snowflakes for their inclusive difficulty options, and they were hoping EM would take over the franchise instead of Crystal. Now both studios are stuck with Marvel shit and Squenix announced a fucking cookbook for TR's 25th anniversary. Everyone is super pissed right now.
