A sudden rush of testosterone at age 15 (or whenever) has got to affect a body differently than the androgens you get going through a natural puberty. Especially since prepubescent boys already have slightly higher levels of active testosterone than girls (here is people testing salivary testosterone from age 6 to 9 and finding consistent higher levels, for example). I don't think it's that. If the tissue has an unpleasant smell despite being poop-free, it's probably due to the particular kind of bacteria that grow in the mucus that the colon produces. Bacterial waste products can be stinky, and we have grown to associate the smell of the waste products of these bacteria species with poop.
