It's probably somewhat necessary given how things have been going on Youtube as a platform. From a purely cost-benefit analysis, if you want (1) as many people to just see your video (not even worrying about making adsense off of it), and (2) not spend too much additional effort and time editing and re-uploading videos that get taken down, then the smart play is to tone down any blatant edgy humor you might otherwise want to put into the video. If you're Sseth, you have to look at every edgy joke and ask if its funny enough to justify letting the video get taken down the same day it gets uploaded. If that happens, then he either has to edit the video again and reupload to match what Youtube is willing to tolerate, or host the video on a different platform and point the audience there. If you're going to do the former, why not just skip the extra step and leave out the edgy joke? You could opt for the latter option, but alternate hosts are getting more sparse and less reliable (as the overlord has been pointing out recently), and no matter which platform you pick a portion of the audience base just isn't going to go watch it because it isn't on Youtube.

Dropping the edge a bit, while regrettable, seems like the best way to accomplish 1 and 2 at the same time.

Some? His last three videos were shit and before that he was on the lo-o-ong decline. Also, his output was slowing down for years. It' s only getting worse from here.

I personally think Endless Space 2 is one of his best. Caves of Qud was really good too. The Egyptian city builder was a bit underwhelming, and the last one was weak, but I still think overall Sseth's quality is good, the quantity is just letting you linger on the subpar ones.

Look at his old videos - they weren't even so much about going from the start of the game to finish, as much about edgy, nonsensical and outright insane /pol/ level jokes. That's right, just like he called them on his Patreon, those weren't reviews, those were shitposts, extreme post-irony and that what made them different. But after he shilled and it all became a serial production, they became exactly that they never were - reviews, but with jokes about 13%/50% and 6 000 000, but you can do only so many good videos that way. Sad!

So the communists stole his family (I think grandfather's) mill(and subsequently couldn't process grain with it) and they fled to a country, he didn't want to be specific, but referred to it as an "istan" in the middle Asia region. I think he spent his teenage years somewhere more Western but grew up as a kid in a shit hole country.

You sure know a lot about him, where does he say this stuff? Is info like this scattered around his streams or did he do some kind of Q&A revealing all of this?

For a time Sseth had a contract to stream on D-live (I think that was the name..) but you can find the VODs of it all on youtube as well. There's also videos of him going into detail on a few topics during it. Overall the couple of streams I watched were interesting but that's coming from someone who enjoys catching streams a couple times a week.

Mandalore definitely rubbed off on him. At least he rarely makes videos instead of sponsoring troon toon intros every other week like Mandalore.

Yes, he has a masters in pharmacology and it shows in his final stream where he gives people a basic oncology introduction.

From the snippets he shared it seems that after a short while the “corporate lifestyle” job soured on him and that he was willing to take his chances as an “independent entrepreneur” as he realised during his study that he had a way with presentation and his voice being quite suited to it.
The story checks out for me, he has wit and intellect; the content of his “lecture” is correct and his analogies show insight and understanding of the material at hand.

Is it unorthodox? Sure, but everyone has to forge their own fate to the extent that their ability and circumstances permit it.

I think that @Spergetti is largely correct with regards to his videos. As long as he has no reliable place to host his videos that do not impose large boundaries, this is the best of a bad situation, that he can make.
His streams were mostly really enjoyable in that his original cheek was shining through very reminiscent of his hentai readings/OKcupid readings, but then toning it down as he realised that he was crossing a line of TOS.

He really seems to me like he would just like to shoot the shit if he could. He also is aware of the spergy autists among his following as he alluded to the discord as a “containment zone”.
His RL friends that pop in also seem like a crowd I would enjoy a cold beer with in a pub.
So far it seems though like he keeps his persona and private life separate, a wise choice, especially with his formal education.

Also keep in mind that his earlier content was subject to a lot more lenient platform policy and flagging algorithm and popularity attracts attention. A lot of the last videos were freebies too and had no regrets with sponsoring his ES2 review.

Protip, you're not there for the games. He's actually extremely awkward and uncomfortable playing a game live. You're hear for the odd slips into a peak behind the Warlord.jpg. Sseth skipping around a recording of him playing Frederick Knudson of Down the Rabbit Hole in some space strategy game, donning a full body black zentai suit and vaping through it, proclaiming he can "finally be a white man on the internet." Staring at piles of cigerette boxes as he dons it another time, to demonstrated firing a water gun out of his kitchen window he plans to use against an annoying Christian evangelist that solicits his apartment.
