Stable Diffusion, NovelAI, Machine Learning Art - AI art generation discussion and image dump

Is a 970 really worth fucking around with this, I have a 970. how long does it take to generate pictures on older cards?

Here's a chart for it/s. I'm going to include it in the OP shortly.
You're looking at about 50s/1min per 512x512 image

This is going to be a gigantic shitshow. I've barely spent a day fucking around with this and I can tell you right now you'll be hearing about this for years.
  • Artist outcry about being replaced by a $600 GPU.
  • IP concerns in that an artist's style can be trained into a hypernetwork and reproduced instantaneously.
  • Government, legislative, nonprofit, and public outcries regarding the triviality of producing near lifelike CSAM.
  • Privacy concerns in being able to make passing nude / otherwise offensive or humiliating images of real people.
I'm calling it now, the Information Era is dead and we are now in the Machine Era. Computer information processing is now more important to the direction of society than the general ubiquity of information which defined the information era, just as the WWW redirected the world from the Nuclear Era and the cold war standoff to a global interconnected community.

Governments using ML to memorize faces from public IDs to track people in public (China literally already does this), civil litigation over copyright defemation and nonconsensual pornography, criminal litigation over production

It's happening.

It is always fascinating to see the dawn of a new era. This ought to get interesting really fast.

NovelAI makes animushit, has anyone got a model optimized for furry porn?
Novelai.net has a furry model that's in beta, but I don't know if it's in the leak. I never fucked around with it because I'm not into that shit.

Seeing how this whole AI art shit evolved from people making funny memes with dall-e mini to people taking screenshots of artists making art, then copying them into an AI program, making the program complete it before the actual artist can and then claiming it's their art, Joining contests with AI  generated art and walking away with the prize has been a rollercoaster.

Man, i truly wish they never made Dall-E open to the public.

To those doom posting about giving up on drawing/art as a hobby:
If you're quitting now then you started drawing for the wrong reasons. If you wanted to make money doing shitty porn commissions you're shit out of luck. Art is as much about the process as the product. Putting prompts into an AI is no fun compared to the comfy feeling of plein air painting or sketching something that caught your eye. Do art because it's fun and fulfilling.

Instead use AI to generate questionable anime pics of Null.

I really don't understand why you're in such a hurry to put people out of work.

Your job is next.
The artists screaming the loudest about this are the same ones who were mocking the fear of automation stealing jerbs years ago. They thought they were untouchable and have been ratcheting up their prices and smarminess to suit. Now they're finding out that observation and transcription are not pseudo-religious magical acts after all and they're left with the muh-hands cope, because technology is obviously never capable of future improvement once released.

The shandenfreunde is worth it, fuck them and their high horses. Learn to code.

The eyes are even softer.

Artists who are put in danger by AI-generated art:
Anybody who exclusively makes "stock image" art or vague high-level concept art.

Artists who are NOT put in danger by AI-generated art:
Anybody who makes specific artwork and direct requests from clients (i.e., most artists)

Not to power level, but I work as an artist and I've been examining this stuff for a while now to see what it will do to my job. The result I've landed on is "not much", and it has actually already made my job easier. If somebody needed a generic "spooky forest" for a backdrop in a slide presentation, they no longer need to hire an artist for that. However, if they need art of a specific character doing a specific thing (like for video game or movie concept art) they absolutely still need a real life artist for that. Long story short: If a google image search or stock image can satisfy your need for art, AI generation can handle it.

I've tried for hours to recreate existing characters via AI, and while the results are fun, I can never quite get what I want. It's essentially a fan art generator in that regard. All this could change in ten years when things improve and image repositories get larger, but for now I don't feel threatened as an artist yet.

I wonder how this'll affect future legal cases when the tech will be good enough to create images indistinguishable from reality... well at least the absolutely over-payed pinup artists who factory produce bullshit are fucked so there's that.

No one cares much when its Kiosks at grocery stores, or that automated cars and trucking is coming down the line.
No, I did care about those things, I don't want people to lose their jobs.

There was a discussion on this years ago.

You can see I was optimistic that art couldn't be replaced as a purpose, but that's being demolished. It's looking like my negative prediction is the one coming true.

I like the people in the thread coping about human drawn shit (mainly the hentai artists). Let me put this, this way the type of quality images you can get out of this AI art considering how new the technology is bodes very not well for any artist in reality. The future of artists is gonna be people who can manipulate, operate and learn these programs. Some of these AI's will specialize in certain areas like 2d, 3d, abstract or realistic. Everyone interested in art should learn to code these things. The most successful artists in the future are probably artists that could do both, so they could draw a unique image and use these programs to clean it up or add layers.

Took me a while to find some really shitty sketches and found some good ones in my 2010 folder.

First you take a draft that went absolutely nowhere.
Then, let it get CREATIVE

Or take something you don't care about and let the ai have fun with it.

Can the Ai enhance this?

Or this shit concept art for a game I was contracted to work on, but long story short. Nothing brings an indie company down faster than not paying people but that's a rant for another day. Anyway.

Can the Ai pimp my image?

I hope this puts shitty artists in their place. I bet that there’s going to be some artists that use this to mass produce art, basically they’ll fine tune elements of an image that are off. Not that they couldn’t quickly do commissions before but they’ll be even better at it now.
