Then he did a bit about fucking a whore with a knife.

That was not what the youtube comedy camero wanted. Or whatever the fuck they called themselves.

That's why Norm was the greatest standup to ever exist. And just for the total opposite of that look at his famous "roast" for Bob Saget. When I saw this is when I realized that Norm was truly different from the rest.

For those unaware in that era Comedy Central pumped out Roasts yearly and they wanted it to be as outrageously filthy and meanspirited as possible. They explicitly wanted the Norm to swear, they wanted him to make real mean jokes at the panel. And Saget said that Norm loved Bob so much (he did) that he couldn't stand to make mean jokes about him. But I don't think that was the only reason, I'm certain Norm felt Comedy Central roasts at that point had grown stale. So he just came in and purposely fucked with the show by delivering the lamest insults possible.

He could tell you the most absurd anecdote of how he'd murder a woman or he could tell you a joke grade school teachers would be embarrassed to tell their class. He didn't care. Just as long as it was a joke.

And it taught me something about comedy because I rip off Norm jokes all the time, as long as you tell the fucking joke and it makes you happy that happiness rubs off on the listener. The famous "Moth Joke" is really at its core just a stupid long winded story that the joke teller goes on and on for. If you're smiling when you finish it with "Well the light was on" they'll smile too. Whether the joke is shocking, clever, or lame as hell as long as you enjoyed making the joke the other person will enjoy hearing it.

I could believe it, honestly.

I hardly found it surprising when Silverman threw him under the bus given that she could barely balance her nature as a social ladder climbing starfucker with her contempt for everything that came out of his mouth, even when he was healthy. I remember her constantly wrinkling her nose at him anytime he said anything that wasn’t kosher, even if it was obviously just a bit.

Hearing that about Conan, though, really bums me out. These Late Night talk show hosts really lost their balls once the overton window shifted as far as it did.

I believe he's a recovered alcoholic who made friends with Robert Iler/AJ Soprano in AA.

He used do a podcast with AJ Soprano and Meadow Soprano (Jamie-Lynn Sigler) over COVID that wrapped up about a year ago. It was a non-Sopranos Sopranos podcast called Pyjama Pants where they would mostly just bitch about their pampered LA lives.

Sigler later moved to Texas and is married to Cutter Dysktra, a former minor league baseball player and son of Lenny Dysktra, former Philadelphia Phillie and New York Met, character in Michael Lewis' book Moneyball and felon.

Kassem G would later get hired at the reincarnation of G4TV to work on the revived Attack of the Show.

He would go down with the rest of the network as Froskurin brought them all down, which is tne last I heard from him.

I'll also say that any comedian who veers more towards the soap box/lecture schtick instead of the funnies is a faggot. Namely post Netflix return Chappelle and Carlin after the 7 dirty words era. Chappelle spends most of his time talking about how hard it is to be black and how evil Hollywood fucked him over because he was too stupid to read a contract fully and felt icky over how they laughed at his racist bullshit. Yeah Dave, I'm sure it was so hard being a multi millionaire by the time you were like 35 and getting paid 60mil for a few hours of work for Netflix. You're just like literal prostitutes being gaslit and physically/mentally abused by pimps and the johns.
And Carlins shtick really just started feeling like pandering after a certain point. Religion is gay, fuck the gubment, "I'm totally just like all you regular folk and the evil government is keeping us down" as he rakes in millions and goes home to his mansion. Fuck outta here with that.
Any comedian who tries to pass themselves off as just another working class joe while sitting on piles of money, talking to a sold out arena/theater of people who paid to see them is an asshole.

The inverse is just as bad too. Rogan and his ilk who act like they're martyrs and bastions of truth and justice for telling low effort cock jokes and making noises with a funny face, while unironically calling normal people "civilians" is just cringe. You're glorified Court Jesters with none of the sway or importance. Not to mention the lack of comedy inherent to being a jester in the first place.

yep. It doesn't help that being a "full time stand up" isn't really a thing, you need a side gig or to marry someone and be the stay at home parent to sustain yourself doing it. Big Jay was only clearing 30k in 2014 despite being an extremely well known name that sold out clubs. most comedians now try to cultivate an online fanbase and sell tickets directly to them because thats the only way to really get rich doing stand up. You have your stand up but you're also doing videos on tiktok and have a podcast and you're helping out your buddies on their social media too and even with all that you're still renting because you still can't afford to live in a major city or maybe you fucked off to the south and finally brought property and are trying to be the big player in a hicklib comedy city. but stand up in general is like a 20th century version of being an e-celeb you're trying to get rich doing something most do for free and probably better. entirely reliant on other places to host you and people's willingness to give you money. they didn't even start paying comedians in LA until the 1980s, before then you had to orally pleasure the comedy club owner (for free!) just for stage time.

When I occasionally listened to their non-Sopranos Sopranos podcast a couple of years ago, Robert Iler was still sober, unmarried, dating casually but had broken up with his recent gf, wasn't employed and split his time between LA and NY.

Out of Jamie-Lynn Sigler & Kassem G, AJ seemed like the most based one.

There was an episode where a trannie joke was made. The next week, Meadow and Kassem G were falling all over themselves apologizing for their wrongthink.

IIRC, AJ was the only one of the 3 who sat there annoyed and said he didn’t feel bad/there was nothing to feel sorry for.

They were going to throw the writer he worked with up the bus but Norm told that that if they sacked the writer he’d quit. Both got sacked.

He was never poisoned by LA and had principals.
