Star Citizen Backers No Longer Able To Get Refunds

If you want a funny read you can just look up derek smart on the archived newsgroups. A squirrel eventually gets a nut, and that's what smart's criticism is. He has zero room to talk.

Also use a credit card to chargeback.

To be honest, they deserve this. CIG literally made used car salesman (IN SPACE!) 3d animations to sell them on the ships.

When's the FPS coming out, again?

A year and a half ago.

Its like a weird ass CS mod

There's a reason why MS had to tell Chris Roberts to scale down everything in Freelancer.
Doesn't help his company is a constant revolving door from developers to social media crews, everything get's shuffled.

Chris makes for a great Idea Man, but he can't run a company to save his life or make a video game on time. There's a good reason for the backer refund thing to be canned and the four major updates to the game this year alone after years of one update to the game. They know they need to now get their shit together because people will leave in droves and their sales don't bring as much money as they once did and too many refunds at once could bankrupt them as we all know Chris and his wife already spent those millions claiming the money they spend was from Origin was sold two decades ago.

I have absolutely no sympathy. Star Citizen and its fandom evolved into a full on personality cult devoted to Roberts and trying to warn them or point out anything fishy at all was instantly liable to get you accused to LARPing as Derek Smart. Fuck them and fuck Chris Roberts. Freelancer was trash and only autists thought it was a good game.

At least Sean Murray gave us a game.

At least Peter Molyneux gave us games.

What exactly has this hack fraud given anybody for the millions they've showered onto him?

I just remembered a somewhat similar crowdfunded game refund situation, though on a much smaller scale, that was resolved in a very admirable fashion. Like with SC, the development team of this game was falling far behind schedule, and it was obvious that the expanding scope of the project was going to turn the game into a completely different end-product than what was originally promised to backers (on top of delaying the planned release date by another year), so when it became clear that they would have to commit to the new and radically different development roadmap, the developers immediately refunded all the backers in full, plus all the backers received a free digital copy of the game when it did eventually release.

I don't know how the developers ended up doing financially (i'm sure they took some kind of hit from this decision), but all the backers were very grateful about how it was handled. The polar opposite of what is going on with SC here.

Well I knew this game was fucked because they'd been advertising for concept artists for the past two years and keep advertising for more. Concept artists are a beginning of project visualisation and rarely used on a game that is past that first development stage which leads me to believe they're just hiring concept artists to make a bunch of sellable cool concepts to show backers for an end product that just won't come to fruition.

At least Yandev has a shitty open-area full of memes.

I think this is it. What's out is the game. According to Reddit, Roberts has begun calling it early-access instead of alpha or beta. Roberts will half-assedly polish it to make it look like they implemented features but that's it. They're probably going to pull a DF-9 and declare whatever is out the final version.

There's a chance SQ42 will come out because Erin seems more grounded, but I doubt it will pull in any major revenue.

I bet Derek Smart is still doing a victory lap on Twitter. He has a real hate boner for this game. Like nothing I've ever seen.

A side note, I am pretty sure that no matter what is in a TOS, they cannot waive away basic citizen and consumer rights. So a class action should still be entirely on the table. Any actual lawyers here know for sure?

I've come to the conclusion SC will probably be an actual game, it just won't be what was promised and it will be in 2022, but the userbase is so heavily invested in it that sunk cost fallacy and cognitive dissonance will make them happy with whatever they get.

This "game" has delivered laughs for like 5 years now. Didn't even cost me a penny!

The "citizens" are the funniest/saddest part. I'd say they should have a thread but honestly Something Awful has that covered pretty well.

They do. I made it like a year ago. It's not updated very often because the drama died down a lot compared to what it was

Their Reddit community is delusional. There's no reasoning with them. I mostly rely on Smart's Twitter feed for new SC happenings, but sometimes I stop by there to see what's happening and people are still throwing money down that drain. One guy commented that he can't wait to play with his three ships. Maybe he's rich, whatever, but it's still basically the same as burning his money.

/r/starcitizen_refunds/ is amusing at times though it barely gets any traffic.

Didn't they also ban a lot of the major contributors including Derek Smart? I know a ton of goons went all in on space jpegs in the early days of Star Citizen.

Of all the major contributors only Derek was banned.

Yeah, and I like pointing out that before the Goons and Derek started their feedback loop, Derek Smart was incredibly rational and even polite about it. But once they started feeding off each other the hardcore anti-SC guys became just as big of cows as the super-hyper-pro-SC faggots
