The operative word is "had" and Starfleet had fitness standards.
Per r/Rodzzer:
It must really suck to be an officer on J.J. Abrams Enterprise. I mean, 80% of the trilogy is about inexperienced senior officers doing dumb shit and completely destroying the ship and it's crew. I'd run like hell if I got a position on the Enterprise under Kirk and his buddies command.

Glad then I stopped with Voyager and DS9.
Trek goes where the wind blows. In the sixties, it was Kennedy's "New Frontier", Pax Americana, reading the Declaration of Independence to aliens.

In the nineties, atomic war turned to fear of surveillance, false flags, and political upheaval. The Cardassians are to the nineties what Klingons were to Gene's generation.

After Rwanda and Bosnia, people began to fret over when intervention is necessary and justified:
"We didn't ask to be involved Tuvok. But we are."
There’s a racial subtext which also grounds it in the politics of Los Angeles. (Source: A Vision of the Future.) Janeway clinks champagne with people she knows to be slaveowners.

After Bush, it has skewed back to a monolithic "other" threatening annihilation. I'd say this is truly the Dark Age of Star Trek.

Starfleet kinda mirrors the real Army in that regard: More and more lax requirements to participate.
Just imagine the strain that fat cow puts on their replicator, she alone has been the driving force behind improving the replicator's efficiency.
The operative word is "had" and Starfleet had fitness standards. At minimum to keep crewman Fatty from plugging up a Jeffries tube with their gunt.
I just imagined that the artificial gravity is reduced in the spot where Tilly stands, just so she can actually walk around without causing the bulkheads to deform under the thundering thudding of her steps.

not after seeing Trek 5
Obligatory Simpsons and Sev Trek parodies:

True. The TNG crew felt more like civilians than military types. Look at all the times the Enterprise got boarded by randoms. The instinct of crew that wasn't security was to run away and call for security. In TOS times, if they had to get into a sword fight, they will get into a sword fight.

Voyager is a legacy ship by necessity.

The Enterprise-D flits from being a deep space exploration ship to a VIP ship. Whichever is convenient. I still question whether having a preschool onboard is prudent.

I honestly don't know why Malcolm wasn't a MACO.
Rick Berman is a factory foreman, and every episode is interchangable. Reed was the Armory Officer in the pilot. So, that's where he will stay.

Remember those times they flashed to the future, and the NX-01 looked the same? Six years of growth can be reduced a name tag on the crew's jumpsuits.
They were too busy making Malcolm secretly gay.
And pineapple. He likes pineapple. :geek:

I have never seen Star Trek Discovery, but was that a real picture of the person on the show? I figured it was a fake image.
It's photoshopped but this is what she looked like at the end of the second season:
fatso.png

The production knows that she's obese and not fit to play a Starfleet officer but they don't care, they prefer to virtue-signal. By the way, they can't force her to change or to fire her because she has announced that she is bisexual (right after she got a baby).
That said, they went out of their way to edit one of the promotional pics for the show:

The small version is the original, the one that they kept DMCA-ing people on social media to hide it.

Alexander wasn't really ashamed of his heritage, just ignorant of it... Which makes less sense when you realize his mother was a full Klingon.
Edit: Was Alexander's mother half Klingon herself? Sorry it's been a while since I last saw early TNG. That still makes Alexander more Klingon than Torres was though.

K'ehleyr wasn't much "ashamed" of her heritage, she just didn't see it in such admiration as Worf did, maybe because she ACTUALLY had to live in it while Worf's views of it were like a child reading Arthurian legends and wanting to be a knight due to his lack of own klingon identity. She definitely kept some appreciation for it if she was working for the Empire, she probably thought some changes and progress could be done. She was working for it.

The problem with Alexander was that Worf wanted him to be a Klingon despite he didn't know how to be that himself. It's (sort of) the equivalent of the son of Mexican immigrants who's never set foot on Mexico dressing his child as a mariachi and forcing him to learn Spanish because that's what Mexicans are expected to do. Worf wanted Alexander to engage in a culture he didn't understand himself but wanted to be part of.

Medicine has got rid of most known diseases and food is healthy, there is no reason for anyone to be obese besides age (that's why admirals are fat).

You can see how the writers of the show are oblivious to the fact fatness is basically a disease or a flaw that wouldn't exist in Star Trek time.

Kinda weird to compare the two images of that gif.

For instance, check out the chink on the far left, they edited away Tilly's coat to show off her ass. Similarly, the coat slightly changed on Black MC to also somwhat emphasize the are were boobs are supposed to be a little bit more. The transgender thing also has a slightly altered pose, that deemphasizes the ass but emphasizes the stomach. Weird.
Wonder why they removed Saru's hoverhand, I can't help but thinking that he's pinching Black MC's ass.
