I like to share a podcast ran by middle age cows the RPG thread makes fun of with you Trekkies. the podcast devolved into a weird rant about Star Wars being better than Star Trek because Star Wars is more pro-multicultural while Star Trek is pro-segregation because the federation and Klingon empire still had boarders. They also hate Deep Space Nine for racism existing. Around 21:00 they went on a typical rant about how Star Wars fans are racist and sexist babies and Disney's best thing to happen to the Star Wars rant. They are boomers who cry about cis white straight males keeping blacks and women from liking Star Wars for the first time before the Disney days. Yes. They said it at the end of the gay podcast.

Man I liked episode 19 "Dust". I'll keep from shitting up the thread with repeated drop ins but this is good shit
I think you mean "Duet"? Yeah we've all gushed about it a lot. I know people love to bring up "it's just remaking [ ] movie" but quite frankly, I think it may do the story the movie did even better.

Though it is really weird to realize that Harris Yulin who played the Cardassian is also the judge who nearly jailed the Ghostbusters. (time stamped for you)

‘Picard’ Season 2 Was Rewritten After Paramount Deemed It “Too Star Trek,” Says EP

That sounds bad, but if you read the actual article and the quote, you realize that the original plan was even worse. The plot being about traveling back to current day Earth was always planned since it would save production costs, but the thing that was removed was Guinan's bar having a sort of Star Wars Cantina backroom.

We wrote nine episodes at one point and the network was like, ‘No, we don’t really understand this, it’s a bit too sci-fi, it’s a bit too in-Star Trek.' [...]
The idea was that Guinan’s bar was presented as a normal bar in Los Angeles, but if you knew the right thing to do, you could go into the back through the telephone phone booth and that was Rick’s Café and it was a stopping point for all these different species that were actually there on Earth with a ‘Do not interfere’ thing happening.

"Star Trek Show Too Star Trek Say Absolutely Brain-Dead Faggots Who Should Be Dragged Out And Shot At Dawn."
Does anybody but scifi nerds have to constantly put up with that line of thinking? "Next season on American Idol we're gonna tone down all the singing. The problem with American Idol is there is just way too much singing and then judging the singing. We want American Idol to reach that portion of the audience that thinks singing competitions are dumb."

The "it's just remaking X" complaints always ring a bit hollow once you realise that the thing supposedly being remade is also usually a retelling of an older story. Marritza was a great character. It was also a great character study for Kira.

It might have worked if they'd made it a MiB crossover. At least that would have been entertaining.

But then they'll have go through the trouble of negotiating licensing rights, as Men in Black is own by Sony's movie division. But a man can dream

It's like bitching that Outland was just High Noon in space, something critics complained about and was actually true.

Yeah? And?

How about Oldboy basically being Oedipus Rex in Korea?

Again, yeah? And?

There are only a limited number of story forms and they endlessly recur. The question isn't whether you used one of them, it's what you did with it.

Reminder that
Terry Matalas approached John de Lancie with his idea for the mid-credit scene during the filming of de Lancie's final scenes for season 2. The scene was filmed under heavy time constraints in just 20 minutes.
saving a character's arc in less than 20 minutes.

Finally some good news for the franchise.

'Star Trek: Starfleet Academy' Sets Filming Window & Episode Count

While it may appear that parts of the Star Trek universe are winding down following the end of Picard and heading into Discovery's fifth and final season, it's still an incredibly exciting time to be a fan of the franchise. Behind the scenes, Executive Producer Alex Kurtzman and the team behind the franchise are diligently working to bring fans more exciting Star Trek adventures. Announced almost exactly one year ago, Starfleet Academy is set to be the next new series, following a group of young cadets at a stage in their Star Trek journey we've rarely seen on screen.

No word on the casting, but all signs point to Mary Wiseman playing the black hole who serves as the spatial anomaly of the season.

Sorry, did I say good news? I mean horrifying.

I predict that Nerdrotic's and Disparu's videos about this trash will have more views than the actual shows. There's a reason why this Academy shit has been talked about since the 90s but never made: it's a shit idea! For the younger people here they started working on Star Fleet: Academy in the late 90s and it was supposed to star George Takei. There were rumors about it for years but now Kikeman gets to make it and every episode will make Shades of Grey look like Inner Light.

I loved the part with the klingons.
  • Doctor Bashir: [about the appearance of early Klingons] Those are Klingons?
  • Odo: Mister Worf?
  • Worf: They are Klingons, and it is a long story.
  • O'Brien: What happened? Some kind genetic engineering?
  • Doctor Bashir: A viral mutation?
  • Worf: We do not discuss it with outsiders.
I've said it before but I thought it was absolutely hilarious that shatners novel has a scene of Bashir operating on kirks brain. " Chief Are you sure that's kirk?"

We already got that as good as it was going to get with the videogame.

Shatner, sulu and checkov in the expansion pack show up in this.

I recently got a really good deal on the whole set of those fan collective DVDs from good will. I'll probably never watch them because I have every season downloaded at this point anyway, but I've actually never owned any Star Trek Dvds besides the Star Date movie collection and they'll look real pretty on the shelf with it.
