Every celebrity has a horrible sense of entitlement: that's the biggest takeaway from Twitter. They differ only in degrees. I wouldn't want to work with Shatner, but his 'rakish' persona is a good fit for the internet.
Shatner is not uniquely shitty in this regard, but he is in fact still shitty.

I know he played a cool space ship captain 60+ years ago, but he isn't your friend. He honestly probably hates you. He's basically said as much in interviews over the years.

I don't like it either, but it is what it is.

The one time Bill pissed me off was when he hosted a doc on Star Trek spinoffs. He made fun of Ira's beard and insinuated that Kate would look better in a miniskirt. There was zero praise to be had, and at the end he concluded that Star Trek had forgotten "what it was about", without articulating what he means by that.

Dirk Benedict took it as a personal affront that BSG got remade, and that he wasn't invited back. That's the TOS cast in a nutshell, for me.

I've watched the video. By the point where people were sending him "nerd crew" videos, Shatner had already long since blocked RLM because of their (clearly joking) reaction to his stupid boomer petshop boys joke.

Shatner then proceeded to fight a one-sided fight against RLM (which they couldn't respond to because he had already blocked them) strictly because of what other people said to him. I don't even hate the guy, (although I stand by when I said he's clearly a shitty person. He's literally proven that through his public persona over the last 60ish+ years.) Even if you don't like RLM, they clearly weren't the aggressors in that boomer fight.
I don't think anyone thinks that. They didn't paint it as more than a misunderstanding either. He bounced off one of their goofy ironic bits and then Twitter trolled it into a mess; I don't think the situation reflects on anyone but Twitter dorks. Preconceptions aside all we can conclude from this incident in isolation is that he doesn't have infinite patience and generosity toward youtubers he's never heard of, if we cared, which I can't.

He's right though; I don't think it needs to be elaborated on, it's not a unique perspective by any means.
And I dunno why he's obligated to have any respect for the sequels simply because the shows share the same branding. Furthermore I don't see the point of having opinions on an actor's opinions of things.

This isn't an endorsement of a man I've never met, I'm just saying at the point where I share my opinions of your opinions on his opinions this biscuit is well and truly soggy as fuck.

I mean, to Bill's credit, he did troll Brianna Wu by mentioning moon-launched space rocks that one time.

Happy 500 pages.

Let's not forget that Harrison Ford has a massive hate boner for Star Wars fans. Hating your fanbase is hardly unique to Shatner.

I saw William Shatner at a grocery store in Los Angeles yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.
He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”
I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.
The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

I guess they resent having to mix with rabble, even after they join the landed gentry.

Could be, and I'm not defending them, but I'd imagine that just about anything -- even "I liked you in X" -- gets annoying as hell after a while.

Personally, I don't talk to them because anything I could possibly say has been said to them about ten thousand times.

Shatner's hatred of Trekkies gave us one of the best SNL skits of all time, and on top of that, whatever he thought of the fans, he always went all out to give a great scenery-chewing performance, even in the worst movie (which he ironically directed).

I'll take that over people who produce a shit product every time while despising not only the fanbase but the franchise itself.

Shatner may dislike Trekkies (I mean, they outright attacked him and tried to rip his clothes off like a bunch of horny schoolgirls pawing at a boy band, can't really blame him) but at the end of the day he always acted his ass off. You know why?

Because Shatner was a damned professional.

wow 500 pages

Haven't kept up with ST in awhile. STD atill seems new to me, and that Lower Decks still seems really new. I guess my interest in the series peaked with the 1990s stuff like TNG and Voyager.

(even the JJ movies still seem recent)
Tbh you haven't missed much since. STD is exactly as it sounds, and while Lower Decks is better, it's still trying to grab that Rick and Morty crowd.

It's funny how Enterprise was derided, and then we were given Discovery and Picard. Oh, how wrong we were to think that Enterprise was when Star Trek died.

For some people anyway. Obviously there are people that unironically love the show. I've never met one though.

Millennials seem to prefer anime and Disney stuff. Boomers love procedurals. If I had to guess, it's only gen X and devoted Trekkies who watch this stuff.
