It wouldnt be so bad if the humour was, well, humorous. I've still only watched three episodes (As I've started watching Enterprise instead for the moment), but thus far the jokes feel very forced. The Orville would genuinely be far better if it were played practically straight.
You'd like Season 3 more. But they do tone it down as they go.

It's serving its purpose of finding Seth MacFarlane a new twenty-something fake blonde to date each season.

The one shot without Bashir's tardcrush.
:story:

They set her up with Bashir in the books ,killed her off , gave Bashir the brain damage( + Pike~esque cripple chair )instead, then set him up with Garak
I thought it was the other augment they hooked Bashir up with in the books. The one he "fixed" and had a 1 episode fling with?

Thanks for confirming I should stay away from the books.

It was, I'm sorry if I garbled that. A fair bit of the pre ds9 relaunch is good but post DS9 relaunch is universally awful.

John M. Ford wrote two that I would call must reads. ( The Final Reflection & How Much for Just the Planet )

AC Crispin , Diane Duane , Alan Dean Foster , and Michael Jan Friedman are always safe bets.

Greg Cox turns in serviceable stuff but it's heavy on membaberries.

Peter David is good as long as you stay away from New Frontier.

But then again all of that is pre Kelvin / Kurtzman/ whatever the fuck

Ah yeah those were my rules of thumb back in the day when I was a more voracious reader. Good to know they hadn't gone bad.

I am genuinely saddened to hear about Ms. Nichols passing. Seems more and more of the people of the 20th century are passing away.

Such is the march of time.

At least we have her and the others preserved in a moment of time like amber, forever to remember them by.

Nobody is going to miss Troi when she's gone.

Has anybody ever said, You know what would make this show better? Counselor Troi. THAT'S what this show is missing, Counselor Troi!
Lwaxana was best Troi. The way she seemed to thoroughly enjoy making Picard uncomfortable as fuck to the point of actually starting to piss him off was just priceless. She was able to get away with so much fucking shit that nobody else would have.
