Cullen mentions that the absurd plot twist from the end of S1 with Picard dying and being resurrected as a synthetic human is referenced. I'm guessing that's what RMB is hinting at as the plot point that they basically mock self-referentially. Sad to hear the "fucks" are coming back in dialogue. Curious to know how Cullen knew such a specific detail was an ad-lib. Sounds like a ready-made excuse from someone on the inside and this someone is buttering-up Cullen. Regardless, it means either Terry Matalas is prone to flip-flopping from /ourguy/ to massive faggot or someone higher-up at Paramount is really adamant for potty-mouth Star Trek. Either of those are grim prospects, in my opinion.

Edit: Cullen talks about the swearing at 7:30. He says "I do know for a fact..." Sounds like he was fed the bit about it being an ad-lib.

paramount obviously doesn't respect star trek anyway, so I take it more as "we want to be 'mature' but not in an intellectual way, you know?", same as all the other shitty hollywood writers who think they're producing hard-hitting dialog "bruh we're fucking tarantino nao!!" by peppering it with swear words a 15yo would find cringe.

It's obvious as clear as day that Paramount wants that dough rather than quality. It's why their most intellectual properties such as Star Trek, SpongeBob, Transformers, Jackass, South Park, Beavis & Butthead, Paranormal Activity, etc. are doing this company more business, and it doesn't matter whether or not most of these properties have turned into dogshit for the past decade and some change. So of course they want to make their properties "mature" by targeting low-hanging fruits with extra amounts of swearing, dogshit humor and unneeded references/easter eggs. And this goes with any other big name company (not just film/TV, but also music, video games, literature, etc.).

Most likely, he talked with the source of the videos after he watched and pointed out he didn't like the swearing. Then, the person told him as a trivia.

I agree with him on this one, though. Since TOS, characters in general don't swear, for whatever reason, and use a different type of polished language (although I am sure some of them lower ranks do swear) to make them stand from other races. They are in fact very dorky in Starfleet, but that's part of the charm. Instead of having Picard telling you how much of an imbecile son of a bitch you are, he gives a Shakespearean speech on how you suck. He did that to Q and got him really pissed.

I agree with him, as well. I generally approve of his takes. Just found it interesting that he ran back to his audience with the flimsy "ad lib" PR excuse when that's at best beside the point and at worst patronizing.

I was actually getting excited for Season 3 of Picard, but then I saw a tweet about how it tackles how calling Seven "Annika" was dead-naming and I came back down to reality.

Edited post because I found the tweet that killed my excitement.

I was never excited to begin with and The Orville has already ended (albeit in a pretty rushed way). In terms of sci-fi material, I have nothing to watch with, sadly, the Hulu Futurama revival to look forward to.

Well that's disappointing is it too late to start drinking while rage watching this shit?

So I was looking for stuff on You Tube to do with AI, and a few days ago I found this.

People are making audio dramas with the AI voice thing. It's actually pretty interesting as a counter to Nu Trek. Fans can use AI to make their fan fiction and give it a little more authenticity than normal.

his character arc sorta reminds me of Char from First to Zeta to CCA

they also have the problem with Dukat that the Bajorans really end up being a pile of backwards goddamn savages every time they get the chance, cowering at the special effects smoke monster that Obrien stops, getting into wars over some crappy stream, all their religious infighting, that time Ye Olde Emissary showed up and they started chucking each other off bridges because MUH CASTE.
I'm not sure if the writers were really brilliant at shades of grey or just didn't really think things through
They were supposed to be a gestalt of oppressed Muslims and Jews. In that, they were very accurate.

I wish they could train the AIs with the young versions of the TOS crew. I can tell that these are the elderly voices.
