Yeah thats a bit strange. Plenty of cartoons go for years without aging anybody in any significant way. Just look at king of the hill - there are episodes explicitly confirmed to take place in 1997, 1999 and 2000 yet bobby never moves up a grade or gets out of middle school and never apparently ages past 13. Didn't fuck anything up and that was a show intended to have a serious tone. If they can do it theres no reason lower decks can't

Funny thing is that happened to pretty much every show she was a part of. She went straight from voyager to boston public and it quickly turned into the jeri ryan show. Plus it started going in really weird directions to facilitate that

I'm very torn over Lower Decks. Like, I watch it and I don't think it's terrible and I like a lot of the sci-fi plot devices, but at the same time, I really hate the four main characters. I think an animated comedy in the same vein that focused on the actual crew, (black captain, cat doctor, bajoran security guy, dude bro first officer and moustache engineer guy) would have been better. You still could have had the four Lower Decks characters in there, I just find them very annoying and child like.

I avoided the series for years because of its reputation and only watched it for the first time a year or two ago. They really turned it around in the fourth season, and that finale was heartbreaking after all the work they put in with all those great two-part episodes.

If they want an animated Star Trek show they should just hire Jackson Publik and Doc Hammer and make a Venture Bros. version of Trek.
