I don't want "tried but failed" more TNG shit, I want a proper new captain with a proper new crew. fucking lower decks is more star trek in that regard, it at least did something different instead of yet another HEY REMEMBER?!??!? which is literally all that star trek is now. hey remember spock? I'm his retarded diversity hire step-sister that was never mentioned before! hey remember captain pike? yeah how about we give you not one but fucking TWO versions of him? hey remember tng you liked so much?! how do you like us shitting on voyager too in the process, you guys always said it was shit right?!

I mean, we got the Orville...that was basically a new ship and new crew doing Trek. It took me a while to watch it, but I was really happy there wasn't a bunch of "Funny Seth" smeared all over it.

DS9 bros stay winning yet again. Hot take all star trek except ds9 is sci fi soap opera, mostly mid with occasional glimpses of brilliance, the fact that ds9 was ahead of its time may have screwed it over back then but time has done nothing but vindicate it ever since and also rescued it from the claws of the mOdErn AudieNcEs.

Bortus and Klyden getting addicted to cigarettes was seriously one of the funniest bits I've seen in a while. It takes a while, but The Orville gets very good.

The way that I deal with shitty NuTrek is I write fanfiction.

Concerning TLD's newest episode: It's a MacGuffin, and I love it! Lower Decks, Lower Decks! Star Trek doesn't always have to be smart. It never has been. Satisfying ending to a weird two-parter.
ETA- Everybody wants to Twain. "What viscosity is the goo?" "Does it have anything nice to say?"

It's worth noting that the episode effectively de-canonised STD by showing its klingon designs to be from a parallel timeline. It's the cope I'll hold on to.
 
(One of) the reason(s) I don't like Strange New Worlds is because it looks jarring with this modern "sleek" bullshit. I wish they had fully committed to the bit and recreated "The Cage" Enterprise and uniforms and set design. Obviously it would be higher fidelity and better quality than it was when it was filmed in 1964, but there is something deeply lost about the whole thing with this gay minimalist sleek design.

I miss the buttons and the whirly sound effects.
