This scene really redeemed Star Trek Picard for me.

The space dentist uniforms are the worst, I'd take the maroon monster over them anyday.
They should've made them a darker color at the very least.
Out of all the different uniforms showed in TMP, I think this should have been the main one but with red, blue or yellow replacing the white part.

Really the JJ Abrams movies were 100% missing the point of Star Trek, trying to sell it as a slick action movie for the masses rather then what Trek should be. But Nu-Hollywood missing the point of older franchises is so blatant now it's not even remotely funny.

The only nice thing I have to say about the JJ Trek movies is that Karl Urban was apparently having a blast playing McCoy, the fact he wasn’t in it more was criminal.

I am already dreading that Section 31 movie. Their entire existence feels like heresy, even when it was introduced back in DS9, let alone in the canon-breaking "Nu Trek."

Don't get me wrong, I did like it the way it was presented in DS9—in my opinion, it didn’t break the idea of a future utopia; in fact, it reinforced it. Future humans, for the most part, were genuinely so decent that the idea of any of them resorting to "The ends justify the means" was relegated to TNG villains and an unsanctioned intelligence agency that even the top heads of the Federation only knew about on a need-to-know basis. But Kurtzman missed the point and made them just an edgy version of Starfleet Intelligence instead of a secretive organization so obscure that some people doubted it even existed. There was so little evidence of them being actually supported by the federation, it might not even be part of Starfleet at all.

What made Section 31 fascinating was the idea that maybe this utopia and all these shining-armor heroes could exist because some humans were willing to get their hands dirty in the shadows. And you can disagree or agree with the idea, but the question itself is tought provoking. TNG Picard would disagree and see them as a betrayal of Federation ideals. Sisko, I think, at least was the captain most likely to, maybe not side with them, but understand where they were coming from.

I imagine this movie will just be an excuse to have characters act like assholes, with teenage edginess, zero moral dilemmas or gray areas, lots of crying, and girlbosses.

It will be an excuse to have the head of Section 31, or the puppetmaster of Section 31, be a Trump roman a clef or a general MAKE THE FEDERATION GREAT AGAIN stand-in. Bad 24th century orange man

Nah, glowniggers are "in" with the champagne socialist crowd that works in Hollywood. It'll be the STUNNING and BRAVE defenders of Democracy stopping a racist-fascist Trump from leading the Federation into dictatorship.

It was nice piece of teamwork, Urban provided the body, Deforest's Ghost handled the acting

as much as I detest Nu-Trek I did enjoy Urban as McCoy. Everyone else was terribly cast. Especially Kirk, Scottie and extra especially Spock. Terrible casting all around.

But then again I tend to enjoy Urban in pretty much...well anything. He's a awesome and seriously under-rated actor IMHO. I loved him in Dread and CoR.

On an off note I always found it weird that everyone uses Deforest's first name rather then his last. I mean we don't call Shatner William nor Nimoy Leonard but everyone calls Kelly by his first name.

weird

To be honest, I actually didn't mind Star Trek 09 at the time. Not even close to the best silver screen Trek, but probably the best since First Contact for me anyway... It was nice to see a Trek film in theaters as an adult at any rate.

But for me, "Into Darkness" is the single worst Trek film of all time and it isn't even close. That isn't even talking about all of the shitty that has been coming out ever since. Overall not worth it.

At least it prompted those great KRE-O sets. I'm sure the Section 31 movie will able to outdo Into Darkness easily.

DS9 is a great show, but—man—the Kira/Odo romance is hard to watch. It lessened both characters, TBH.

The episode where Odo simps after her while she fucks Shakaar is a low point of the series; up there with Let He Who Is Without Sin and Meridian.

I didn't mind the uniforms in TMP. It was a vision of the future based on what NASA figured people would actually wear in space. And it was nice that there was variation, with long sleeves or short sleeves or jumpsuits or two pieces and some cultural things like the Indian woman wearing feathers. The Monster Maroons work fine as something like Class A, but are impractical for day-to-day wear. That said, I would have liked a little more color than what we got where everything was shades of gray or brown. I saw a picture someone made of the bridge from TMP with the TOS color palette that was cool: orange turbolift doors, black consoles, etc.

I always thought Anton Yelchin did a decent Chekov, not sure who else they could've cast at the time.

The best Star Trek uniforms were the ENT uniforms. If I was working on a ship in space I'd want a jumpsuit with pockets, not some gay spandex shit like in TNG or those super thick uniforms from the later seasons of DS9. Those uniforms looked uncomfortably hot. Just give me a blue jump suit, a bit of water polo, a long road getting from there to here, and my time will finally be here.

At least in modern onlines I do it because "Kelly" mononym makes me think of the Onion guy
I recall hearing "Dee Kelly" a lot in the irls in the day?
