So, I rewatched Metamorphosis with Zefram Cochrane in it and the romance really feels one-sided to me. Okay, yes, the Companion is in love with him and took care of him for 150 years, so that love is true. His love for her, however, isn't really. Back when she was an energy cloud, the idea of a romance with her sickened him. Then when she takes over the Commissioner's body, he can reciprocate because she has a human body. Which, to me, means that his love for her is shallow because he's completely hung up on her physicality. He completely fails the "Would you love me if I was an energy cloud?" test.

I don't understand.

Even funnier that the girl he ends up with is one of the first love interests of Andy Griffith from his show. (and a lot of that show's sets and main street is used in Star Trek)

So just imagine that a few minutes after Kirk & co leave, Sheriff Taylor shows up to arrest Cochrane and has Barney do a little back-alley roughing up to teach the old man a lesson.

What I found most odd about Crusher is she was selected for a violent special operations mission in "Chain of Command" despite being a doctor.

I'd say the issue was how often the first season relied on Wesley to save the day, which made the rest of the crew look like idiots. It's one of those cases where a show tries to introduce a kid character for younger viewers to relate to and cheer whenever they resolve the conflict, but it almost never works. Nobody wants to pretend they're Robin. They want to be Batman.

Also, fun fact: In The Big Bang Theory, Wil Wheaton played a fictionalized version of himself, and he was idolized by Sheldon Cooper for being Wesley (the entire joke was that Sheldon was just as insufferable about his intellect). In one particular episode, there was a scene discussing how much hatred Wil got for his role as Wesley.

Gene Roddenberry was sort of like a real life Captain Jellico: A brilliant man, but a massive control freak who refused to see anyone else's viewpoint but his own.

Yeah, but I feel like it would be easier to teach a commando how to scan for bullshitrium than it would be to teach a middle-aged mom how to be a commando.

Realistically, Picard had no business on that mission either.

Worf arguably also should have been replaced with somebody who wasn't in charge of security for the Federation's flagship.
