Oh, he was used: as the punching bag. It was simply dickish. At least "O'Brien Must Suffer" episodes were couched with him overcoming the problem and he was still a respected character in and out of universe. Kim was just... bullied.

Tom Paris was a faggot, too.

poor Harry, he was so poorly used and hated by everyone.

Really his character wasn't needed at all and it showed, they had to really stretch to find things for him to do.
It would have honestly been better if that Bajoran girl played by Zoe McLellan had filled the Chief of Operations role. You could have subbed her in, used her pretty much the way Kim was used and subtract the handful of episodes that focused on him [that were pretty much universally terrible]... Think about how much better both parts of Scorpion would have been if a character people actually cared about despite appearing in only two episodes, if for all the wrong reasons, had been the one infected by Species 8472's biological weapon.

Interesting tidbit, which I think I might have gotten upthread, so forgive me if it was posted already: Ms. McLellan has been a fugitive from justice since 2019.

don't get me started on Voyager and it's wasted potential.

I haven't even had my morning coffee yet and I'm not ready to write a 50 page screed on how the writers were terrible and fucked up every chance to make a good, interesting and more importantly entertaining show.

"O'Brien must suffer" is also a consequence of the place Miles worked in. He was the guy with the most experience on Cardassian engineering, so if something broke on DS9, he was the dude who had the fixes in store, and that's a dangerous job. Additionally, everyone in his team had unfathomable levels of respect for the man.

Yeah, Kim was just bullied. The only proper reward for him I can think of right now consists of him motorboating 7 for the rest of the series, but that never happened either...

I do like the DS9 uniforms, I think they are the second best look with the grey undershirt....but you gota ask how a person wears them?

They zip up in the back so how the heck does a single person do that? We know in RL the actors had someone else to do that for them, just like in TNG.

I'm sure the ladies, if any as this is a ST thread, can attest that you cannot zip up yourself. To which all the married men, again if any as this is a ST thread, can also understand as getting asked to "zip me up" is part of the marriage contract.

Does each Starfleet DS9 staffer have an attached device in the room to zip them up?
Do they take turn zipping each other up?
Does the uniform self-zip somehow thru technobabble?
Is there a designated zipper upper on staff in the station?

Inquiring minds want to know!

Garak does it. That's his main source of income. It explains why he's also beyond schedule on tailoring trousers for Bashir.

Rick Berman allegedly said “someone’s gotta be the ensign”. Whatever. Point is, they made Harry into this weird eunuch momma’s boy who brags about being the night-shift manager,:blart: and even that gets handed to a literal emergency screensaver program, who then gets to save the crew like three times.

Harry’s “thing”, his big contribution, is that he’s always pitching some shortcut to Earth that never pans out. So he’s basically the anti-Worf. Worf: “Captain, that nebula looks like it wants to eat us.” Picard: “Shut up, Worf, we’re fine.” Worf is proven right 90% of the time.

Harry: “Captain, I think this wormhole leads right back to grandma’s house on Earth!” Harry is proven wrong 100% of the time.

Plinkett: His hands are too slow to input the right equations. Kim's general incompetence leads everyone to their doom...
You joke, but the guy doesn’t matter enough to help OR sabotage Voyager. Neelix almost annihilated the ship with cheese. Neelix got laid more than Tom Paris and wasn’t even trying, Harry’s just this wallpaper in the background. You forget he’s there.

Neelix is based. Annoying at times, but based. Kim wouldn't know what to do with a Klingon lady offering death by snu-snu. Pathetic.

Harry Kim?
more like hairy kimchi that's been in the fridge too long and growing fur and nobody wants it

Can I just pat myself on the back for calling out Strange New Worlds aping Community a while back? This week's episode was done in the style of a documentary. Skimming chicken fingers from the mess hall episode incoming!
STD felt like the Starship Troopers training video, except instead of satire they’re heroes, now clap. So after crawling through all that industrial filth I was stunned just to see some humanity.

But no you’re dead on, dude. I couldn’t figure out why SNW felt off and yeah, it looks like a student union in space.
