At most, she became the EMH's nurse and grew plants on the side I think.

Side note, how does nobody else on Voyager have medical training to the point where the closest thing the crew has to a nurse is either a random three-year-old girl and the guy whose main job is flying the ship? Yeah, I get that the medical team was killed when the ship was flung to the Delta Quadrant, but nobody else has first aid training?
They don't know how to cook either, hence the second they didn't have Neelix's slop to eat, they panicked.

I seriously forgot that Kes was in the arboretum.

If she mattered to VOY's “we’re running out of resources” storyline, then yeah, obviously her character was a ticking time bomb. :story:

Then Tom just slides right into her nurse role. Does the EMH have the same superpower as Chekhov?

In the late 90s nigger fatigue hadn't set in fully so it was acceptable. Imagine if DS9 was made today: The Sisko would be a ratchet black woman who constantly lectured everyone while clapping her hands between syllables. O'Brien and Bashir would be gay for each other in the first two episodes. Jadzia would be a tranny Tril played by a tranny. Kira would be a played by a muslim and would be scissoring tranny Jadzia. Quark would be the main antagonist because he wanted to make a profit.

In Strange New Worlds news: Mexican dyke pilot gets sucked through a wormhole and has to work with a Gorn pilot to survive on a barren planet. Wow, never seen that plot before. So original. It's almost like a TOS episode...

Motherfucking Metrons. They did fucking Arena with lesbians.
This also had elements of the The Enemy from TNG, it wouldn't have been that bad of a rip off episode if they hadn't made the Metron so faggy a Metronsexual if you will.

How many failed comedians does that make now? You know Trek is in dark territory when Sarah Silverman is the uncontested GOAT.
I'm gonna defend Andy Dick a little here this was pre-Phil Hartman fuckery so he was pretty much at the peak of his popularity. I do think Picardo riffed off him pretty well in this episode.

Okay, I know Voyager is a small ship and doesn't have as much personel as the Enterprise, but did they really just not have any backup plans if something happened to their food supply other than space MREs? Not a single person on this ship knew how to make a grilled cheese?

There's this one Voyager rewrite fic I'm reading that does a lot more with the lack of resources. Not only is the arboretum more prominent, a couple of Kes' Ocampan friends join instead of Neelix and help make food for the crew.

To be fair, Tom was usually the expert in whatever the plot needed him to be. Piloting, history, medicine, engineering, writing, you name it.

Everyone jokes about Harry never getting promoted, but Tom suffers from the same problem. Despite working his ass off for seven years, he only got up to Lieutenant by Lower Decks and will die a Lieutenant according to the Starfleet Academy trailer.

Most of the humor in that episode was less Holo-Dick, and more from our Doctor getting annoyed by him.

I know the joke is old, but all those promotions were rerouted to Janeway's service record file.

The only Starfleet officer that could cook was The Sisko thanks to his dad being a chef. Maybe O'Brien with him mentioning his mom cooked with actual meat. Everyone else eats only from replicators and has no idea how to cook.

I'd count in Kira and Dax as well. Kira admitted to hunting and BBQing those spider creatures on that Bajoran moon, I think. Dax is self-explanatory, because of Trill generational memory stuff stored in the bellyworm.

It’s always been my impression that Starfleet soft-executed Janeway by wiping her memory and dropping her off in 2015 as a cook in a women’s minimum-security prison.

If they keep remaking TOS episodes and/or using characters and plots long before they actually happened then TOS will look like a "been there, done that" type of show.
I can't wait for the Kurtzman era to end.

Gonna be real 'tistic here. The first thing I heard about SNW was that the Gorn were turned into edgetard evil alien monsters exactly as mindlessly evil as they looked....and that in and of itself was all it took for me to write the whole series off without even bothering to watch an episode

That the writing/story team so utterly missed the fucking point of one of the most famous TOS episodes which was all about "boy howdy, these guys sure may look like irredeemably evil monsters but they are not just irredeemably evil monsters and treating them as such is both stupid and morally wrong" because they wanted to slap a recognisable name on a shitty xenomorph knockoff was a massive red flag that shit would continue to be every bit as unforgivably retarded and contemptuous of the source material as STD an lo and behold I find myself vindicated again.

Also I suspect this may have been a direct mandate of Kurtzman given how the shitty vidya spinoff of the reboot movies also featured the Gorn as the generic "evil space monsters who do evil stuff because they evil and stuff" enemy, and Kurtzman is the only one left of those listed as providing "story input"

I’m guessing the last 10 years of Trek will be treated in a similar way as Doctor Who in the 80s: a total sellout, prostitution.

Eric Saward’s got his cult, but he didn’t even like the TARDIS crew, he wrote them like background extras in a show about space marines. Bitter divorced dad writing.

Speaking of, its weird that this show is technically a Discovery spinoff, because even Discovery didn't treat the Klingons as mindless animals.

This, along with all other forms of shitlibbery, is a way of projecting the inner and outer ugliness of both Current Day "wokeism" along with those who practice it like a religion.

It's all about the appeal to the grotesque and the destruction of the beautiful.

My hot take is the Klingons should’ve stayed buried after DS9. What did we get from 20 more years of this? OH WOW, they got their foreheads back. Now we can finally memory-hole the augment virus and “blingons” like the creative bankruptcies they are/were.

So they look “classic” again. But they have a long, uphill climb ahead of them before anyone takes Klingons seriously again.

There's not much they can really do with the Klingons in SNW since Kirk deals with them only a few years later. It's possibly why the Gorn became the main enemy race for the show.
