even the Kzinti?
not trying to be a pedant, but they were always the biggest problem in meshing TAS and the rest, canonically or legally or spockly
I have a fondness for cats, so I love the Caitians and the Kzinti.

What was the reason why TNG was so gun-shy about including them? Is it the same reason why they benched the Andorians?

Also, there’s a non-zero chance someone thought Wing Commander already had the cat people market cornered.

Same reason, I think. Berman was very against using TOS stuff wherever possible. Even Vulcans are pretty rare throughout TNG.

They're from an existing IP independent of Trek
the author of the setting wrote for TAS and threw them in for funsies because he's not going to sue himself

I've long thought the powers that be should retcon the Kzinti as a faction of the Xindi. They never appeared in Enterprise because they wanted nothing to do with that scheme, and they mispronounce their name through a combination of vocal structure and desire to avoid prejudice

I found Elite Force fun, but short. Very short. At the time I bought it was like 50 bucks in real money and for like what...4 hour of gameplay? I felt ripped off.

With the AAA slop that spews out of developers today, Elite Force is a gem and well worth the 8 bucks GoG wants for it.
It wasn't 4 hours unless you're speed running it.

I'm sure it wasn't the twelve labors of hercules, but that's neat they went through the trouble to get clearance for them to appear
I believe they had been established as "not-kzinti" awhile back to make things easier on the whole rights issue but I don't care to check memory alpha right now.

99% of the time your answer is going to be budget.

Andorians and cat people are going to be expensive on the makeup and costuming.

They got good at it all though and more efficient at it all, that's why later treks had more and more aliens pushing the boundaries.

BTW vid is "A father's pride in his son" - Sarek's approval - STAR TREK IV: THE VOYAGE HOME #startrek #space. It is best if post-JJ Trek either ends or gets like that again.

That scene always made me tear up. 25 years in the making since Sarek was introduced in Journey to Babel where he was a massive asshole to his son. Spock's mom is pure awesome though. He ignores Spock, he berates Spock, he belittles Spock in front of his co-workers, hell even after Spock saves his life he doesn't give his son any slack.

How can you not love Sarek.

Here he is 25 years later, admitting he was wrong and doing the unthinkable of not only admitting that he was wrong but coming as close as a Vulcan can to saying I love you and I am proud of you. As movie 4 was supposed to be the last one, with both Nemoy and Shatner were "done" with Trek at this point they said, this wrap up was a long awaited, very moving moment. Plus you know, Spock and his friends did just kinda save the world and all.

I guess it's not really fair to compare old trek to the nu junk. Not only are the writers mostly retarded nepo babies who couldn't write a decent high school essay let alone something a deep as a Trek movie but they actively hate the IP.

Since we're talking classic performances...

It's not even just how well Aaron does, it's how many emotions you see Avery go through as Sisko.

If TAS fit with the rest of the series, there'd be the life support belt thingies in TNG, a negative universe, and more less humanoid aliens in later series, as seen in TAS.

TAS is an OK show with good writing though. Overall anyway.

TAS is definitely an acquired taste. It's much wacky then TOS thanks to being animated so Gene could do all the crazy stunts he wanted to pull so it's certainly...different.

I don't hate it, I don't re-watch it much though either. To me it lacks a lot of the punch of the TOS episodes, dunno why really. Some of the stories are just straight up better the TOS but still, it just doesn't do it for me.

Gota love the animation though, so prime meme materials come from TAS

Yes, very talented
He actually did another album much later with Ben Folds called Has Been that was unironically good despite being in pretty much the same style. Part of it was Shatner was in on the joke by that time instead of being the joke and part of it was Folds arranging it around the style to make it actually fit.

I unironically think the cover of Pulp's "Common People" on it was better than the original.

Oh my god yeah, that’s the one where he’s like, “I can’t get behind that!” right? It's literally just him yelling at society for like six minutes. and then Henry Rollins comes in like “YEAH! I can’t get behind that either!!” :story:

It has a number of perfect moments. Like the KHAAAAAAAN level one in "Common People" where he yells "watching ROACHES climb the WALL!"

So I am absolutely unfamiliar with Star Trek games, is there anything that comes up to KOTOR 1 and 2 in terms of being worth playing? Not meaning to sound disparaging, just those are the two really great Star Wars game I can think of.
IDK about roleplaying games like kotor style but the star trek new horizons mod for stellaris is very solid. i got a stellaris subscription just for it because it incorporates some of the dlcs. It shames the absolute fuck out of paradox's abandoned on release star trek 4x from 2 years ago.

Oh, also bridge commander with mods. Get it on GOG.

Borg aren't gay.
Where do you think the milk comes from for all the borg babies.
What was the reason why TNG was so gun-shy about including them? Is it the same reason why they benched the Andorians?
The reason is because Gene Roddenberry wanted to spotlight new races and not just ape TOS. It's really no deeper than that.

This kinda fucks, not gonna lie. Love Shatner, hope he lives to a 100 at least.

Picard Season 3 is incredible on rewatch. I was very happy Voyager continuity got a nod when the Borg queen says she was "left poisoned on the edge of space, with no roads by which to return" and she felt the entire Borg network collapsing and the drones dying from the neurolytic pathogen from Endgame.

The armor and cloaking technology came back with Voyager so I don't know why Starfleet pretends it's still forbidden tech. When they stole the cloaking device from the HMS Bounty and Geordi says do you know how many treaties this violates? Well the Romulans are not a power anymore and the Federation only made the no-cloak treaty with them. The Federation can cloak if it wants now. The Klingons don't give a shit if humans can cloak, and the Cardassians spent the last three decades rebuilding and are not in a position to object.

The mines around the wormhole were cloaked. I don't know why they don't make offensive missiles and probes which can cloak as a technicality, or a technicality that runabouts and shuttles not being ships which cloak. With all the sentimentality in the last few episodes I was glad they ended playing poker.

I was very pleased with the last season of Picard. It was also hilarious that Dr Crusher's son was the focus of the plot and Wesley was never seen, nor even mentioned. Not one time hahahaha
