Forgive me if this seems clueless (I have never watched much of STNG), but why did they make Worf wear that smushed cow patty on his forehead?
I have never thought about it this way but from now on I will appreciate the fact that they all started walking around with a physical poop emoji on their heads the moment they stopped being Space Mongols (ie Good Klingons).

Did Chakotay even get mentioned in Picard? They memory-holed that man.

Nah dude he died offscreen of, like, “Star Trek disease.” Just some vague shit. “He, died of… reasons.”

Beltran did not give a single shit. That man acted every scene like he was on his break from a different job. Honestly he had more sexual tension with Tom Paris than he ever had with Seven.

That one cute Romulan girl from the DS9 prison-asteroid episode. She gets the best line too: Romulans are so paranoid! :story:

yah Robert read the first couple of Voyager scripts and realized he was in a bad spot.

He could have thrown a temper tantrum, maybe have gotten things changed...maybe. Or he could just do what he did. Be glad for a steady paycheck and just do the little bit they asked of him. The man obviously saw his character was shit and had nothing to do but hey, work is work right. He put in the exact amount of effort the writers were calling for so that's on them not on Beltran.

He also probably knew he only got the role because he was the right type of minority they were looking for. Not that they ever really did anything with his "heritage". I think he was supposed to be from like the Amazon or something? Not like the Amazon doesn't cover around 75% of South America and has hundreds of different cultures...he was just some not white guy but not black and not native but close too something recognizable type of character.

I don't blame Beltran one bit for putting in the least amount of effort to get the max amount of money. He saw what he was there for and said "fuck it, money is money".

Really Voyager was the precursor to a lot of the woke shit we saw that was to come later. It was the canary in the coal mine but we just didn't know the horrors that were to come so we shrugged it off as just a badly written show....oh how I wished that was all it was.

The horrors of what yet to come for the causals and even somewhat sentient normies had noticed. Was when the term "political correctness" had entered the mainstream lexicon in the mid-1990ies before VOY was even announced. Given what else that showing on UPN and WB, VOY wasn't even the worse to qualified as a harbinger.

Patrick Stewart could had played a French character if he had wanted to or if he had been asked to do it. But TNG S1 wanted to show that borders didn't exist and made them all act stupid asking stupid things like "flags? languages? what's that?" as if books, museums, or history books didn't exist.

This character already exists, and he's named "Worf". What you're describing is just him if he stayed with that traditionalist group that tried to get Risa shut down in that one DS9 episode.
I can picture Worf giving Alexander "12 Rules" for his birthday.

Was it ever explained as to why the Enterprise’s captain had a completely French name whilst speaking with an English accent and not being able to speak a lick of French?
After the third world war the British took back the lands they lost in France in the 15th century. That's my head canon and when I buy the rights for Star Trek I'll make it real. And he does speak French:

Which is weird, since you'd expect the Federation to preserve as much cultural diversity among its members as it can. It would be a collection of ethno-states that have ethnically diverse colonies, to prevent it from becoming a monolithic hivemind. In some ways the Federation is the anti-thesis of the modern world in current year+10.

Back in TNG times, people still believe all cultures belonged to their own. Remember Keiko got married wearing a Japanese wedding dress, although that's likely because Gene was a weebo.

I guess they eventually realized that being culturally blank wasn't really a hopeful look for our future.

Patrick Stewart claimed he tried out a French accent in early TNG rehearsals and it came out too gay so they just ditched it. Same deal with the hairpiece. @Fatsuit Shinji keeps trying to frame all this as “woke” creeping in, like that’s a thing that started under Clinton instead of Obama’s second term. If you just look at Gene’s specs for Troi and Crusher, it’s all ad-hoc decisions. Nothing was thought out.

Doesn’t really matter. Remember when Donald Pleasence got cast as the President? He made up this whole biography for the guy, like explaining how he got elected and shit. And Carpenter’s like, Doesn’t matter, just act like you’re the President. People were just happy to cast English assholes whenever they could.

Hollywood always been "woke" ever since the marxists started taking control in 1920ies after the Russian Revolution.
All the major Hollywood studios were founded by jews that didn't like that Edison wouldn't let them make the movies they wanted at his studio in New Jersey so they bought up acres of orange groves for cheap and created the modern film industry. This isn't antisemitic, it's a historical fact.

Oh yeah, Edison. A real creative maverick. The film industry’s patron saint. He definitely had their best interests in mind when he tried to literally sue everyone who made a movie.

I'm not a hundred percent but I think Gene was one of the non-weebs on TNG (as much as Gene was involved with TNG)
he _did_ book Yeoman Tamura so he probably at least didn't mind fucking asians, but I don't recall Harry Mudd using the freighter serial number T-28 (called "Tetsujin") or anything as overt as the twin crafts the Kei and the Yuri, the Nausicaans, or the random Urusei Yatsura shit written on the walls in ambo-jutsu

Or....

Yes. That is the real photo from Gene's and Majel's wedding.

List of female Star Trek characters I find attractive:
  • Any female Vulcan
  • Any female Romulan
  • Any female Cardassian
  • Any hypothetical female Hirogen
Kirstie Alley's Saavik. You got yourself a female Vulcan AND a female Romulan there.

He was just gay enough as it was. No need to try to be even gayer.
