It’s not really a writers’ room problem so much as a studio brain problem, which is that the people making Star Trek appear to be embarrassed by it. They keep trying to sell it as a Netflix dramedy you half-watch in a hoodie.

90210 in space” was never going to work, but Paramount needs to accept that there is no vast, untapped audience of normies who will be duped into watching Not-Trek.
Have you seen the AI videos on Youtube made by that Starfleet Dreams channel? They recently dropped a Starfleet Academy one and we have officially hit the point where AI makes better star trek than humans. The uncanny valley nature of the aesthetic is off-putting as fuck but that actually sort of works with the Tears of Bajor one since Cardies are a bit uncanny valley to begin with.

Shoes on the furniture? I don't know about the rest of you, but growing up that would have earned me a clip around the ear.

I've been attempting to watch Academy but I can't watch more than a few seconds before I have the urge to skip forward.

I think Holly came in with a contract straight out of Ghostbusters 2.No ecto suit, no slime, I want to move zero inches, and don’t even think about giving me lines unless the check clears first.” And the director’s standing there like, "ARE WE PAYING YOU ENOUGH TO RAISE YOUR HEAD?!"

Every review is just like “well, it’s not as bad as Discovery.'
Technically true: it's worse.
As bad as The Acolyte? Not yet, but the Suck Factor has reached the Power of One. Maybe Power of Two, depending on how badly they fumble The Sisko (Avery Brooks is too good, even in 20-year-old audio recorded for completely different reasons than "Star Trek", to be the Power of Many).

The crazy engineer who came up with the idea to make a hologram like that should be put in a Federation reeducation camp.
They should have their pay docked and people don't even get paid in the future.

Who the hell sits like that?
You joke, but that's the actual cope the shills in the comments section of that vid are trying to push.
Seriously?
So I had to check and of course it's another one of these situations.

The reviews by the access media were quite negative but they all gave a positive note anyway.
Yeah. You can tell when rotten is paid when they give negative reviews a fresh rating. It's all so subjective but a lot of people have taken it as gospel for a long time. It didn't used to be quite this bad until Disney Star Wars.

Makes me admire Locarno even more. An Academy show around Robert Duncan McNeil about Red Squad trying to climb that officer ladder could have worked. TNG-era cadets were these neurotic Type-A overachieving types like Locarno or Lavell. That's plenty of interpersonal conflict to be had there. Now, instead of characters that are law/med school equivalents, we have undergraduates in Current Year Academy.

I would say Captain Marvel is when that disconnection got serious. Disney Wars got that disconnect with TLJ, not TFA.

I just noticed that I have uploaded the wrong webm in a previous post about the muslim fangirl.

There's a reason why it's a "muslim majority" country.

Never really watched Star Trek as a kid, tried TNG but bounced off after an episode or two. Still curious about the franchise and I like to start with the beginning if it's not too much of a drag, so I downloaded TOS and watched the "not" pilot episode "The Cage" and to my surprise it was better than anticipated. Will continue with the first season and see how I like it.

Geordi is muslim.mp4
Fuck, I forgot Geordie was born in Somalia. The show creators picked a random African city to have be born in, didn't they because Geordie is clearly of Bantu ancestry and isn't a bulb head.

Everything about Islam is incompatible with the vision of the future presented in Star Trek, you fucking idiot woman.

I remember Alexander Seddig in some strange interview going on about how actually islam is compatible and that there's a strong undertone of allah in DS9. That was another thing that really put me off the show.

If The Sisko is Muhammod someone better hide Molly O'Brien, she's about the same age as Aisha.

I haven’t read the interview or whatever, but I know he’s Sudanese royalty or some crazy thing. Also, he was very keen on having no ethnic markers on the show. I didn’t realize he was an Arab, I just assumed he was some toff who fell asleep on a tanning bed.
