Yeah, I don't think replicated food is garbage. I just think that real food hits different. Kinda like how a home cooked meal, even if not engineered to have the perfect taste balance. Somehow hits different than some of the top grade prepackaged food.

I then think of Klingon who definitely have contempt for replicated food because they're very much used to live stuff which is something replicators will never do justice.

I also love that line from Kurn
"How long has this bird been dead? It appears to have been lying in the sun for quite some time."
"Well, it's not dead, it's been replicated. And you do understand that we cook most of our foods…"
"Ah yes, I was told to prepare for that. I shall try some of your burned replicated bird meat."

Edit: Just watch the scene and it's interesting to note that Picard mentions having brought real caviar because "The replicator can't do it justice"

Also interesting that we're supposed to have stopped eating real meat because it's "barbaric" but unborn fish eggs is fair game it seems. (I remember Sisko cleaning oysters at his dad's restaurant so maybe I'm remembering wrong and they still eat some live stuff because I don't think you'd have the replicator give you dirty shelled oysters, those have to be live)

Edit after edit:
Oh, Tom Paris was in jail because he fucked up, people got killed and then he covered his mistake instead of owning it.

The shitty search engine AI says that meat-eating in the Federation is niche, but not illegal. Unlike Seth MacFarlane's The Orville where veganism is state-mandated and slaughtering animals for food, even in a survival situation, is akin to being a serial killer.

Shatner would throw a shit fit whenever anyone got more lines than he did and he wasn't the center of attention.
I'm probably being charitable, because I know younger Shatner had that pride and arrogance. But I think the way Shatner justified it, at least to himself at the time, was that his success was the show's success. He was the face and the cooler he was, the better the rest of the show would be and it would last longer. It very vain stuff, but I can't deny he had a point. I like all the other characters, but I always wanted to see more Kirk. And I never got tired of that shit.

I feel like the one singular thing that doesn't seem to suck total ass in star trek these days is the comics. Lately they had the balls to bring back Kirk in the future and not emaciate him.

Its a dark future story with the federation in shambles after all their ships blow up and they only have one borg infused ship left with a crew that's never killed before.

I don't view it as canon because of course they had to pull from the Discovery burn and that stupid borg woman from Picard S2. But it seems the writer actually knows how to write. Its a good concept for a dark what if comic and the writer leans into that.

I love how consistently angry Kirk is throughout the entire comic run so far. It really feels like he's mad at the current state of trek as much as everyone else.

Its been surprisingly good so far.

There is one last panel that is complete aids

Literally comes out of nowhere right after Kirk gets pissed off at her.
but I do like how Kirk remains pissed off in the next comic and there's no follow up.

They'd probably be like Gushers gummies, fish oil in a fish-protein gel ball.

They definitely eat replicated meat still. When Worf's wedding was off and back on again Bashir and O'Brien ordered meat dishes.
From You Are Cordially Invited:
[Quark's]
(Quark with his staff is laying out dishes in front of Bashir and O'Brien.)
QUARK: One steak with mushrooms, baked potato, sour cream and chives.
O'BRIEN: I should've had that.
QUARK: One double Altair sandwich, no mustard, two bowls of linguini, Bajoran shrimp and extra cheese. One loaf of mapa bread.
BASHIR: Quark, where's the kava juice?
QUARK: They're still squeezing the roots. Unless you want replicated?
BASHIR: We'll wait.
Bajoran shrimp? Might have been fresh from Bajor. Trek understands the ecosystem needs predators and I imagine they still hand out deer hunting licenses on Earth.

The warp core of the Enterprise-D had a nameplate capacity of 12.75 exawatts. You can certainly power an entire planet with just one of those fuckers. The question is why should you unless you don't need to? So what the hell were the Klingons doing and what did they need that much juice for?

Replicators. e=mc2 is a bitch.

From In the Pale Moonlight:

No Romulan would pay a snide compliment like that without meaning it. I don't buy the replicators make crap. Vreenak is arrogant and hostile, and still he says their replicated kali-fal is pleasant.

Neelix is foreign and weird. He's the Snarf of Star Trek. Janeway just wants coffee and he gives her sludge.
My favorite episode was where Neelix ordered a Star Fleet Ensign to collect some bones in front of a cave. What ever happened to that Ensign, I wonder?
Captain Kathryn Janeway and her crew are struggling to survive on the desolate planet on which the Kazon have abandoned them. It becomes immediately clear that their number one priority is to seek shelter from the elements. They move into one of the caves that appears to provide adequate protection given their circumstances. While Captain Janeway's team makes camp in that cave, one of the other teams, led by Neelix, is searching the surrounding area for food and supplies. Near the entrance of a cave, he and Hogan find humanoid bones. Neelix orders Hogan to gather the bones up so they can use them for tools and weapons. As Neelix goes to help another crewmember, Hogan gets attacked and dragged into the tunnel by an unknown predator. They rush to save him, but are too late and only find a few scraps of his uniform.

Every time VOY does something like this I picture the writer’s room as a bunch of guys hitting a bong. This isn’t character development, this is character execution.

Neelix is basically Piller’s creation. That annoying Talaxian freak is his son. He didn’t write the space cheese episode though. He’s not responsible for the cheese bioterrorism. But spiritually he is. Then in "Basics Part II" he decides to have Neelix send a redshirt to his death? Like he’s Paulie Walnuts all of a sudden.

This is a shocking level of badness. Beyond the pale.

I mean holy crap. What the hell were they even trying to convey if this captain bitch isn't a villain? Nu Star Fleet is in deeper shit then incompetence, it's filled with cruelty.

I'm onto Enterprise, well into s2 and I dont understand where the hate comes from. I like the episodic format of a fledgling Star Fleet meeting well known things for the first time and dealing with lower technology. It's been fun. Yeah, there's some dumb shit like the UV room and T'pol but it's better than Voyager's early season and I would say even a bit better than later Voyager.

I know. I recently finished a rewatch. I think the hate comes from it being very episodic when people got used to serialized stories like DS9. It reminded me of TOS.

The complaints I always heard about Enterprise was how it ended. I will not spoil it in case anyone is not aware of the ending.
If you do know, it's understandable why people were so upset. One of the shows producers even acknowledged this, but gave (in my opinion) a handwaving answer to the backlash.
