I never particularly found Seven of Nine all that attractive. Not to say that actress isn't, but she just didn't hit me with a tingling in my loins when I was of the age watching Voyager during it's original run. Were as I see B'elanna as attractive despite the Klingon of it all. It was just something about Seven's styling, hair ect. Didn't trigger me the way someone like Wilma in Buck Rogers would. Or T'pol.

Robin has slightly more interesting things to do on the Genesis planet. She may not be a dime like Kirstie, but I buy her portrayal of a Vulcan.

If Kirstie hadn’t walked out over a salary dispute, maybe I’d feel differently. It’s hard to even speculate, it’s kind of like debating whether Lazenby was a good Bond.

I once heard Nimoy describe why they didn't meet her salary demands, he said she was asking for more money than Shatner was making, you know the star of the movie. Notice she hasn't done much after Cheers.

It was "more money than Kelley" not Shatner and she was probably more famous than all of them combined at that exact moment in time so obviously her agent wanted her to get what she was worth, but rather than negotiate the Trek producers panicked and went "no lowly actors get to make demands on us (also we're trying to skimp on this as much as possible)" and immediately dumped her.

I recently rewatched the first movie and I am telling you I think it is tied with Wrath of Kahn as my favorite now. If you watch the version where they finally let Wise make a final edit of the movie it is pretty good.

Star Trek five was never going to be great but Paramount slashing the budget at the last minute, several reals of film being stolen, and ILM not being able to do the special effect didn't help. Still the cast helps carry this one so I get more entertainment out of it than anything Star trek has produced since Enterprise left the air. At least it is build around the big story idea of exploring why people fall in with self help cults and it has the Enterprise exploring a new part of space, so it has more going for it than anything Trek has done lately.

I rank the movies 2&1,6,3,4,5.

From Paramount's perspective while she may have been the most famous member of the cast she was also the least likely to sell tickets. Remember Paramount was spending less on this one because it was Nimoy's first feature film and they were unsure how a Star Trek movie where Spock only has a cameo would do. If they wanted to keep production on time and budget doing a back and forth with a big name star was most likely not worth it since it is unlikely anyone who was not interested in buying tickets to this movie would change their minds just because she is in it. Shatner and Kelly sold tickets to Star Trek movies and she didn't, that is what it comes down to. Paramount would have done the exact same thing if the tables were turned and Shatner and Kelley asked for a big pay check to be on Cheers, no one was going to watch Cheers for them.

Also I am pretty sure this is the movie where Shatner and Nimoy negotiated with the studio to get Kelley a much bigger paycheck after his wife told that they were about to lose their house, so Paramount was already spending more on the main cast and most likely didn't feel like paying more for a supporting player.

She seems high strung, like there's a tough exterior but you know that Chakotay's going to be dealing with a lot of crying and thrown plates after they shack up on Earth. Bellana probably hits Tom, though. Pickings are not great on Voyager.

I have this mental block when a show introduces a character for sex appeal and my brain goes on strike. That was me with Jeri Ryan for a while.

I will say, normies act like Star Trek was always horny, which is not really true. When I go back and watch old TV from that decade (I'm not talking about Ally McBeal) the clothes are very blocky and unflattering, and the lighting is a sad shade of gray.

Well that shot is from the pilot and as I remember it once Fox figured out what they had they went all in on using sex to sell The X-Files.

Heck, around the time the movie came out you were seeing both of the cast members being used as sex symbols and you could cut the sexual tension on the show with a knife.

Sometimes, actors and actresses will ask for too much money as a way of quietly telling the producers to fuck off. She probably had other projects in the pipe at the time which she expected to make more money from than Star Trek.

Seven seems like the kind of woman who starts a fight with "Interesting..." Then a silent death stare for a few minutes as she thinks of the one thing to say she knows is going to royally piss you off.

Bellana strikes me as the type that immediately blows up, and every fight is multiple rounds, and by the time it's over both of you are missing teeth and she's pregnant.

Janeway would just murder a crew member if she was mad at you.

Yeah, I distinctly remember Scully’s hair getting better and better each season. Not a single strand out of place, ever. Then by the time they left Toronto and moved filming to Los Angeles, both of them had designer coats and power suits on.

The old story goes that Chris Lambert had zero interest in Highlander after the first one, so every time they tried to drag him back, he’d quote a number, assuming they’d take the hint and leave him alone. And instead, the producers just threw the cash at him. :story:

I mean, the pilot episode has a gratuitous 3 minute scene of Scully getting undressed to her skivvies so she can pose and have Mulder give her a very sensuous inspection for alien bite marks. It was fairly remarkable at the time when bikinis were still pretty rare on prime-time network TV.

Early 90's Fox was very much all about the titillation, in ways Trek producers could only hope to convince Paramount to go along with later. They would eventually get close featuring T'pol's bolt-ons in the goo room a decade later.

I remember essentially shrugging when Seven got introduced (even as a horny teenager). Sure, the catsuit looked good, but I never thought Ryan was some great beauty, and we all knew at the time what creepy boomer Berman was doing. Kes absolutely had to go though, and Seven did eventually become a good addition to the show, in spite of the forced sex appeal.

Underappreciated fact: Bellana is a potential nightmare girlfriend not because she's a Klingon, but because she's a Latina. Tom, being a California guy, thankfully has the "honey, put the knife down" routine down pat.

Yes, PRs are the loudest and most annoying of all the peoples of Latin America, and the women are pushy and aggressive. Basically anyone who has a Puerto Rican and a Klingon as parents is guaranteed to be an antisocial basket case, and no amount of wholesome chungus white guy stability from Tom will keep her stable for long.
