I don't. There needed to be an open billet for Kim to be promoted in. I mean, what were the writers going to do, just keep promoting everyone on Voyager during the 70 years it took to get home until every single crewman was a Fleet Admiral just based on time in grade?
The should've blown up a shuttle to appease the subspace aliens and kept the Equinox to make it a second ship under Janeway's lead, like Pegasus in BSG. An entire second ship of promotions.
I dont understand why they just didn't go with pairing Janeway with him instead of Seven, who he had no chemistry with. Sure it's a bit cliche, but that's usually how these things go and they worked well together.
Beltran is a narcoleptic Mexican impersonating a native. He doesn't have chemistry with anyone. He's great in bed because he's asleep when he's awake. But yeah Seven should've had better. Janeway too.
They had the threads set up to hook him up with Seven which would have been an interesting way to explore their characters but just sort of abandoned it. "Oh, you wish to copulate? Very well then, take off your clothes." Come on man, if Jeri Ryan says that in front of you, you say "yes ma'am" and comply.
Yeah that was hot. Poor timid Kim. Do you think Seven has Borg infrastructure around her lady parts like her ocular assembly?
It always amuses me when they had to pretend that anyone was attracted to races like the Ferengi as if anyone was gonna want to bang those goblins for anything other than latinum. Leeta was a top tier gold-digger.
Leeta emphatically was not materialistic. She and Rom actually love each other. Their episodes have it as plot points.
Although Rom becoming Nagus and the changing Ferengi morals in general was probably the biggest mistep in the series as if the Ferengi wouldn't immediately rise up and assassinate him and undo all those changes.
Yeah but clothed females having access to the Ferengi Exchange collapsed the market with trading volume. I think many would love to throw the reformers off the Grand Marketplace but the Ferengi economy is in a huge boom by What You Leave Behind. A coup would collapse of all that growth.
Oh, and I saw peak liberalism on the Star Trek subreddit the other day with someone claiming that actually Star Trek is bad because it frames the European explorer and discovery drive as a good thing instead of a terrible sin and everyone should stay at home and live with nature instead of exploring and improving.
"We wuz good befoh the wyhte man came" sour grapes, victimized, external locus of control, minority grievance mentality. Meanwhile they enjoy the technology, peace and prosperity that muh colonialism brought. Ingrates.

By no means is he as embarrassing as Spiner, who probably owns a bust of himself.

It's extremely funny how prophetic this ended up being.

"I can safely say, that to know him, was to love him. And to love him, was to know him... Those who knew him, loved him, while those who did not know him, loved him from afar."

Phlox: bitten by a venomous worm, only known cure belonged to those people he genocided

Just thinking about this episode makes me extremely angry. One of the most offensive in the whole series. Withholding the cure to a dying civilization due to some garbage about natural selection WHEN YOUR ENTIRE JOB AS A DOCTOR IS CIRCUMVENTING NATURAL SELECTION is incredibly retarded and makes me so mad.

Yes, PRs are the loudest and most annoying of all the peoples of Latin America, and the women are pushy and aggressive. Basically anyone who has a Puerto Rican and a Klingon as parents is guaranteed to be an antisocial basket case, and no amount of wholesome chungus white guy stability from Tom will keep her stable for long.

There was a funny thread in a Star Trek group where some white guy was complaining that Torres was a stereotype turned up to 11 and all the Hispanic guys in the group were like "dude, have you ever met our women? That's accurate."

Isn't a decorate Navy pilot who has flown more than 40 aircraft and some of them in combat?

I don't think Tim Russ knows what DEI is if he thinks that is it.

Way to throw shade at an American hero who is doing something dangerous.

Am I a racist because when I saw him I saw his record and what he is doing now and not the color of his skin?

It's incredible that they still dont grasp WHY we hate DEI. They still think the sole reason we dont like other races is because they look different than us, not because the different look is a way to recognize certain patterns or traits. Just look at this thread. Most of us are racists but we all love Sisko. Because Sisko was competent. Even as a racist, I will approve of that captain because he genuinely skilled and competent. What we hate about DEI is the fact we're seeing any sort of standards destroyed to artificially inflate the numbers. And guess what? Inflating those numbers have consequences. Back in the day, if you had a black doctor, you'd feel confident in knowing that he was probably really good if he managed to get that position. Now you have even non-racists being nervous about getting a black doctir because standards have been degraded so much they're letting awful people into the profession that have no business being there. And you'll want a young white or asian doc because the standards for them were cranked up to just get their foot in the door.

And in 30 years, that doubling of economic activity also makes housing twice as expensive, so now women have to work and experience the aggressive tipping culture everyone else has to.

And then birth rates decline because both parents are focused in their career. And the next generation's IQ craters for the first time in history because the kids are raised by teachers and data pads and holodecks instead of their parents. HEY WAIT A MINUTE....this all sounds a bit familiar.

And my on-topic offering:

It really is wild how incredibly inconsistent the Voyager writing is, it gives you whiplash. You have an episode with dumb writing like the Bajoran exobiologist then a short time later you get a great episode like Counterpoint where you go the villainous anti-telepath leader trying to secure and manipulate Janeway. An episode that can compete with the best from TOS or DS9 or TNG.

This is a culture which leases women in marriage contracts, including stipulations for childbirth. They tell us about it with Rom's ex-wife. Maybe hooomonnn traditionalism infected them like root beer.

Remember when Quark had to pay a waiting room attendant for the use of a chair? Twice, when Rom showed up? They're already there.

They can stay in the Ferenghi Fifties equivalent and just let the woman control 90% of domestic spending.

Yeah Counterpoint was amazing. Voyager could be a bit uneven but it's one of the best of Trek. Mulgrew is amazing. Her voice is sexy.

He posts nothing but Trek reviews, right? And somehow he has this bitter, jaundiced take on Star Trek women.

Quark runs a bar which is basically a Dave & Buster's. Nobody's getting career advancement through Rom. Also didn't Leeta have options? Bashir and Zimmerman, two genius doctors.

With smuggling. Lots of smuggling. I think Quark makes the bulk of his latinum on investments and extra-legal enterprises.
Nobody's getting career advancement through Rom.
Lol not even Rom.
Also didn't Leeta have options? Bashir and Zimmerman, two genius doctors.
That's my point. It wasn't Rom's latinum, looks or smarts. Must be true love.

Why was it even necessary to have him die anyways? Just have him complete his destiny and then have him resign from Starfleet fatigued by war and live on a farm in Bajor to heal. Like Frodo going off to the Grey Havens.
The writers wrote themselves into a corner. First, they needed a "penance" for Sisko demanding the Prophets stop the Dominion fleet coming through the wormhole. It was supposed to be Jake who would become a Prophet, but Winn stopped it. Then the Prophets were like "okay, it'll have to be THE SISKO." It was such a big plot point that they couldn't let it go. Brooks only demanded his character assure his return so no one would make absentee black father comments about it.

I assumed that Sisko swan-diving into the Fire Caves was ripping off Sheridan jumping into the abyss at Z’ha’dum.

I get that Ira has this reputation for bristling whenever anyone brings up comparisons.

If the official line is that DS9 just sprang fully formed with zero overlap or influence, I don't buy it.

First Contact > Khan > 2009 > 6 > 4 > Generations > 5 > 3 > TMP > Insurrection > Nemesis > Beyond

Disclaimer: I've never seen Nemesis. I started watching Beyond but Sulu's gay husband made me shut it off within five minutes.

I saw Generations, First Contact, Insurrection, and 2009 in theaters. This is why I kinda ranked Generations high- it was my first Trek movie in theaters and at the time I was a huge TNG and DS9 fan so I was thrilled to see Star Trek in the theater. I recognize, on an intellectual level, that Generations is the worst movie ever made.

Also 5 is really not that bad.

It's not something you'd ever put on again unless it's for comedy. Let's lean all the way into being a self-parody because we can't write real jokes.:suffering:

1000134608.jpg

...What the fuck was that? They just threw in "ooohhh nooo I can't shoot my brother" so Spock doesn't immediately phaser him in the dick. He's mind-controlling everybody! Vulcan logic, my ass.

1000134606.jpg

The only part which was kinda cool was that titty bar on Nimbus III. The ambassadors have completely given up. :story: Why is Talbot even there? Shouldn't he have an office or an embassy or whatever?

The peace process is going great!

This is going to be a hot take and earn me many negrates but Babylon 5 is better than DS9. DS9 wastes so much time on boring shit like the Bajorans instead of getting to the point of the show, the Dominion War. Seven seasons was too much for the show and it can be a slog to get through. Babylon 5 with its five seasons doesn't dick around and gets to the fucking point. Even the filler episodes include plot points that help build up to the Great War and the Earth Civil War. The HD remasters of B5 on HBOMax also look better than the DVD rips of DS9.

DS9 show runners when you point out similarities to Babylon 5:

Oh, and I saw peak liberalism on the Star Trek subreddit the other day with someone claiming that actually Star Trek is bad because it frames the European explorer and discovery drive as a good thing instead of a terrible sin and everyone should stay at home and live with nature instead of exploring and improving. I swear we're looking at the Great Filter in real time as self hating intellectuals take power and self immolate their culture.
You know, what's so interesting about Trek is... it needed the Eugenics Wars and WW3 for humanity to overcome the Great Filter. Humanity recovered at great speed after 2063, and I wonder why that is aside of FTL-capabilities. That's engineering and science.

I ask myself what kind of mindset and subset of the population was wiped so thoroughly that humans could finally move to the stars.

Personally, I think the Eugenics Wars and Trek's premise for WW3 were all fucking retarded. The Eugenics Wars doesn't make sense if you know anything about biotechnology and that is supposed to lead directly to WW3, which leads to a global nuclear war... that doesn't eradicate all of humanity and lead to MAD? I'm sure it made sense to Gene in the 1960's, but it makes no fucking sense now. Also, people politicize dish soap. I can't post anything in this thread without Captain Syrup negrating me because I'm pro-Trump. Do any of you really believe that meeting aliens will somehow rally our species and end all our problems? There are people on this website who believe that any "aliens" we meet are literal Biblical demons and part of some religious test.

The only way humans will ever form a united federation is if they are dragged kicking and screaming.
