Why? There's sooooo many better haircuts in Trek - and I'm including the romulan's.
Best case they just like that haircut and have it on one of their toons. Worst case they are fans of STD and Mikey. At least most players want their toons to look good or proper elritch abominations one can be proud to show off.

The lack of good Star Trek games/software annoys me.

We have PADDs, voice assistants, and VR - the stuff we dreamed about - and what we end up with is some freemium shit mobile games and a mediocre MMO.

I should be able to LCARS the shit our of every episode/book/comic on my tablet.

I should be able to say "hello computer" and get a reply from Majel Barret.

I should be able to walk around the Enterprise 1701 AND the A, D, and bloody E.

The hardware is there. The software is there. And the digital resources have already been made.

I guess it doesn't help that the people in charge of the franchise are fucking it into the ground, but the complete lack of games/software is just suck a fucking waste.
I recall there being a voice activation suite branded with the Trek license back in the 90s.

I was always amazed the era of flip phones never had a TOS communicator design one.
I wonder if maybe there's some early deals with companies that tied their hands, like some of the legends around early anime deals.

Remember the Motorola razor? You wouldn't even need to sell a TOS communicator skin of it - just make a basic sticker pack. I mean you can buy cases for smart phones now that look like cassette tapes. Can you imagine the bank those stickers would have made?

Speaking about LCARS, I like how the tech on SpaceX is getting closer to the NX-01 era.

I don't know. I had a phaser remote control my dad found in a thrift store. I also remember some odd licensed "tricorder" for sale in catalogs that had stuff like a working light meter and some other digital sensors built in and was like $300.

Yeah I remember those. Think I saw the tricorder on QVC back when they had actual guests like D Kelly. That's the sort of thing I wonder if those got them tied down and unable to go work with Motorola or something when flip phones became popular.

The review is here now.

No very impressed by his review. I thought that he would have been more critical. I'll wait for his review of the pilot of Picard.

"Every one in this episode is an idiot and asshole."
>I wish he could have been more critical.

? Not sure how much more critical he could be. Unless you're asking for mauler-esque 12 hr dissertations.

Still watching DS9 and just finished 3x17 with O'Brien timeshifting. Him dying and getting replaced by his future self is great. The show keeps getting better with each season.

Imagine what would have happened if there had been a proper Harry Kim / O'Brien crossover episode.
O'Brien would slap him, ask him what's he whining for, and to shape up! That Tom Paris fellow? Now there's a starfleet officer. Harry should be more like him.

Well, I've decided to dive in and finally watch Voyager and Enterprise.

I've been told that I've already seen the best that Trek has to offer, but given how disappointing STD and Picard were, I'd like to see something that at least feels like classic Star Trek, even if it is flawed.

Voyager is more like a series of middling TNG episodes with some really good ones and some really bad ones.

Enterprise (the first two seasons at least) remind me more of TOS than anything else in the franchise, except possibly TNG season 1. I really didn't like the last two seasons but everyone seems to love season 4.

You could describe It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia in the same fashion. It doesn't speak directly to quality.

i've decided to watch through TOS, my favorite part so far is the 2nd episode where a blatant autistic teenager is the villian of the week. also the sweater vest uniforms are comfy. also the women all in miniskirts and being treated like they're idiots is great. you can see why leftists nowadays despise pre-TNG Trek.

Its quite the change from modern dramas too, where everything needs a snarky joke or interpersonal conflict.

I'll be honest and say that Enterprise is the very first time I watched something Trek-related and it just did not feel like Star Trek. I was quite young when it was airing on TV and actually the first time I caught it on some network or other I legit was wondering why there was a Klingon Bird of Prey in Stargate.

There are some definite sensibility changes from the 1960s to the modern age, but in my opinion TOS's supposed offensiveness really isn't there. A few outdated attitudes certainly, but nothing really damning. Other that maybe the tiny miniskirts, those admittedly don't seem all that practical to work in.

The dialogue actually does get quippy in places, but in a very realistic way. It never feels unprofessional, which is something I really enjoy about the series in general. Even in a really shit episode there's always some fun banter between the characters even if its kind of easy to miss if you're not paying attention.

Some modern sensibilities are overrated. (like men and women are interchangeable and shouldn't like each other)

I think TOS is a mix. For example, there's an episode where Uhura spend a ton of time fixing the communications console. That almost seems like a current year thing, because I don't recall anywhere else they say that Uhura has that sort of technical expertise, or officers repairing their own stations where it doesn't really make sense. She literally breaks the thing open and starts welding and shit, it's actually pretty cool.

But then there's stuff like Wolf in the Fold, which opens with Kirk and McCoy trying to set up Scotty with a sexy lady to prevent him from becoming a lifelong misogynist after one woman did something to him. It's mostly banter but it's seriously some incel-tier logic those two have, it's pretty weird.

It never feels unprofessional, which is something I really enjoy about the series in general.
This is something I didn't realize how much I appreciated until watching Discovery and Picard. Discovery pretends to have it but it's completely absent in Picard despite him being one of the most professional people in the entire series.
