Yeah I'm not up on why Troi is ungoodthinkful around here but it'll take real effort to beat Wesley at it.
Also one time I heard Troi sing a few bars of The Time Warp as Magenta because as a British actor she's legally obligated to have done at least one run in Rocky Horror
They gave her terrible scripts, the one episode where she was possessed and was evil actually was the best acting she's done.
The worst story was when she was impregnated with a space baby who went through it's entire life cycle in a day

Yeah everybody did dumb shit that's why they were in Star Trek, I just mean whatever lately.

Wesley, hands down.

And for this reason. The actor shouldn't really matter but knowing that Wil Wheaton grew up to be an even bigger douche than his douchey character still doesn't help. You can't look at him without despising him and despising the character even more.

And most of Troi's uselessness was early season stuff, like where you'd see some guy yelling and screaming and Troi would helpfully offer "I sense anger."
Early seasons only my ass. She's the one who wrecked the Enterprise D.

covered another couple episodes, its amazing how they just threw whatever at the wall. the idea of consistency or a whole universe i guess wouldn't be a thing until TNG. the androids being created by an ancient civilization and androids needing to destroy the human race is a pretty hilarious thing to see knowing they base a whole season around it 50 years later. also two Kirk+Kirk episodes almost near back to back.

Also another reason i would expect the left to not enjoy TOS is how much shit Spock gets for being mixed, the crew, especially bones just shits on him for not being a human. like imagine some halfrican guy who's constantly mocked for not being white like the rest of the crew. constant references to his nappy hair or sickle cells or big lips. in the future i guess just constantly pointing out how different other alien races are was ok. I know my grandparents were also doing that shit, but i didn't realize that was considered a social norm in the 60s.

iirc Spock give Bones shit pretty equally back. They can just handle the bantz.

Bones had some great insults for Spock. I rather like "green blooded son of a bitch" and "pointy eared hobgoblin." He was kind of racist really. Hilariously racist.

"That's not at all surprising, Doctor... he's probably terrified of your beads and rattles."

Not to ruin the positive vibe here, but I just rewatched The Trouble With Tribbles for the hell of it and noticed something in comparison to Discovery.

There have been four Tribble episodes in the series. The TOS one, the Animated one, the DS9 homage one and the Discovery one. I've been thinking about it because its kind of hard to wrap my head around this, but the fucking Animated Series had a way better tribble episode than Discovery did. How do you fuck that up?

The Trouble with Edward is indeed an edgefest but that could have worked. I'm currently reading War Against the Chtorr which was written by the exact same guy who invented tribbles, and its a complete dystopian edgefest where getting eaten by giant fuzzy worm monsters is like the least horrible way to die. You can do tribbles as an edgy concept. But that episode had all the ingredients and just failed completely to be compelling. Again I ask, how do you fuck that up?

So on Sat, SFDebris reviewed the episode of O'Brien on trial.

Of interest to the board, around the 15 min mark (episode wrap up), Chuck begins going off on politics, and brings up what many of us have before. That there's the politics as a philosophy (how are things organized, how are problems solved) and there is politics as issues (what is everyone upset with today).

Hm. My comment: Notice how this episode from DS9, way back in the 90s, seems to have some relevance right now, to current issues?

Why it's almost like if you concentrate on telling a story on LARGER issues, you end up with something TIMELESS, which will be in vogue again and again as human nature repeats itself.

Whereas if you try to tailor your story to the issue of the day, then it becomes overspecialized, and horribly dated because - you know - when the issue repeats, it won't be exactly the same and looks even more dated.

Imagine my shock.

With the benefit of hindsight probably Wesley. Both his character and his actor are really irritating. At least with Troi Marina Sirtis will be among some of the first people to make fun of her own character. The commentary reel for Star Trek Insurrection is hilarious.
Her sense of humor was hilarious at cons. Saw her at a con when i was a kid and being a naive little kid i asked her if she liked doing movies or tv better. Her response "Your too young to have seen the movies I've done." Later found out she was making a porn joke...to a tween...

Well she was topless in Death Wish 3. So more of a "rated R" joke than outright porn. ;)

Wasn't she topless in one of the Hellraiser movies, too?

I mean, I could go on Mr. Skin and find out, but...

Shatner's been shitposting a little too hard.

Also "Face of the Enemy" was a good one. That script you're talking about was from Star Trek Phase II, which became TMP.

...

So uh, is Troi fluent in Romulan or what?

Richard Daystrom and Dr M'Benga were Black and they got nothing. There's a reason why the Federation is perceived to be a Homo sapiens only club (while dominated by Vulcanians)

Because David Gerrold wrote the scripts for both the TOS and TAS episodes, that's why.
