I get that the song's lyrics are kind of sort of about the theme of the first two seasons, but it's still a terrible song. It felt dated and cloying back in 2001 and time has not improved it.

But at least they defied the UPN suit who wanted a different band to play in the mess hall every week.

There's a scene from TNG that shows this very well:

They are very calm about it, respect each other and resolve it in private. I always loved that scene, the way how they treat each other is just nice to watch.
In STD and STP, you wonder if there even is a chain of command, cause anyone can do anything without being punished, it's a madhouse.
Also, watching the first few episodes of STD, the one time someone does something that gets them punished, it's Burnham, who is accused of starting a war with the Klingons, even though they instigated it all.

This video puts it into context as well:

I can't wrap my head around this at all. They want to make him look like a fool and her like a quirky, spunky STRONK WAHMAN, but they achieve the opposite. She's an arrogant bitch, she doesn't even allow him to make a statement and then there's the subtle thing: He never interrupts her speech, but she never lets him finish even just one sentence.
If that chick is a captain, she must be the worst one I've seen, she'd get along nicely with Holdo from Star Wars.

Too bad, the actress is pretty good and she looks cute, but damn, this is a terrible screenplay.
Exactly my point. No respect toward each other: shes the boss, shes right, and her subordinate is going to know it. Shes supposed to be the captain of a military ship but she acts like the teenaged assistant manager at Burger King. Its clear from this scene that the writers have never worked in the real world and think this is the kind of leader that is strong and awesome when in reality if this woman was your boss you'd be giving your two weeks notice after a few days working under her. Data acted like a real person in that video you posted. He acts like a good manager would act correcting his subordinate out of public view and suggesting ways to solve the problem. Ironic that an android and alien acted more like human beings than the Discovery characters.

Also I just looked it up to confirm it but holy shit thats H. Jon Benjamin getting insulted by the captain. Archer deserves better than to be berated by a woman and crushed by a bunch of Tribbles.

Yeah this is the antithesis of Conscience of the King. They just quote Hamlet and make sure to spell it out so the audience knows. Its a lazy way of looking smart and sophisticated instead of actually trusting that your audience is smart enough to get the Shakespeare themes you've included in your episode.

I gotta say, the more of Enterprise I watch, the more Phlox is becoming one of my favorite characters.

Hmm, that's actually interesting. Phlox never stood out to me one way or the other.

I prefer the movie nights.

The live band idea is such a hilariously dated Irwin Allen level concept. Though in my opinion even watching old movies is probably going to be dated if/when the human race gets into space. Hell, its considered dated now. I actually kind of prefer it when Star Trek shows off some kind of future entertainment and you can't really make heads or tails of it, since I think of all things entertainment is going to make the least sense in the future.

Though I am okay with the TNG crew playing traditional instruments, but I think that's because it expands their characters and shows that they have a talent other than running a ship, rather than it just being set dressing. I can see space people taking on stuff like that as hobbies just out of boredom.

I still feel kind of bad for accidentally ruining some of DS9 for you, but if you're watching Enterprise right now, here's something of a peace offering for you:
(Not a spoiler, Enterprise never actually used this as a theme song, it's the theme song for some 80's sitcom, but it totally matches up perfectly with the Enterprise opening.) The actual Enterprise theme was terrible, and it only got worse.

That's pretty good, but...

I unironically love Faith of the Heart. It's cheesy as hell and sounds suspiciously like something a "cool" Christian worship group would sing, but it's completely sincere and unashamedly optimistic and catchy and we need this in 2020.

Data mentioned that television died out in the 21st century, which would be good. But they still have shitty Nintendo Virtual Boy games:

The Holodeck looks like it'd make most forms of technological entertainment and porn obsolete, but probably also be the most antisocial invention in history.

And Tuvok is forced to be his First Officer. How long can he go without murdering his captain?
In the series finale it turns out that none of this actually happened and Tuvok is in Vulcan hell, and this is his eternal punishment.

So the entire series will consist of 2 episodes?

I was about to ask what did Tuvok do to be sent to Hell, then I remember he served under Janeway...

It's cyclical. Tuvok kills Neelix multiple times over the course of the series, but Neelix always comes back.

Or it’s what Future Tuvok hallucinates in the future that Old Janeway came from in the series finale where he had that brain disorder.

Not just TV and movies are outdated in ST, the whole entertainment industry is not existent and it's out of relevance. I know that it's due to IRL copyright, but in universe, it feels like most modern entertainment didn't make it to Federation times. Only theatre has survived and works with expired copyrights.

My crack theory is that, at some point before the first contact, Disney bought every single IP and label on earth and established such impossible copyright standards that people turned to basics and free media, mostly books and music. The Disney started the third war, yadayadayada.
