When I first saw the end of ST: D's first episode, I immediately thought about this scene.


Based solely on this memory of a scene, I decided ST:biggrin: was not for me and didn't watch any more of it.

Its one of my favorite scenes in all of Star Trek. When character driven filler is better than the main stories of modern Star Trek, you know we've got problems.

This was it for me too. I wasn't impressed with the show overall so far and was already screaming "This isn't Star Trek" at me. But when Niggermike assaulted her captain over a disagreement I knew I was done.

This is how Starfleet officers should act. With dignity, respect, and decorum.
That's what I hate so badly about STD and Picard, the Starfleet Officers just don't act like Starfleet officers. Take the STD episode where an ensign they named "Gene" (as if we don't know why the subhuman fuckers in charge picked that name) is being made to mop his crewmates remains from the deck as the officers sit around making crass comments and simply calling him "hazmat".

Frankly I'd be fragging officers on the daily if I got stuck in that version of Starfleet.

Another thing I'll notice is that when Data took Worf aside to tell him how his behavior was inappropriate, and he should not be berating a superior office in the presence of other crew, he acted according to the very rule he was laying down. He didn't publicly humiliate Worf.

And Worf, despite being a Klingon, put aside his resentment and admitted fault.

This short interchange showed that pretty much every officer on the Enterprise could, if circumstances required, make an excellent Captain themselves.

Imagine how badly a situation like this would spiral out of control if everyone were like Captain SJW Scumfuck.

A lot of the braintrust involved with TOS and even TNG era Star Trek had military experience, back when military ethos was largely a product of competent white men. So Starfleet took on that culture, if obviously watered down.

It's ironic that in golden age Trek even female officers were called sir, yet current year Trek (and current year military for that matter) are more at home with some angry bearded man raving that he be called mam.

He had really come a long way from the days of nearly killing Riker after beating up Skeletor.

(it is fun to go back and watch TNG S1&2 and see how... "try hard" it was back then.)

(but at least they tried)

They act like parodies of real military officers instead of actual people. Like a bunch of discount-Whedon characters got dropped into Star Trek and instead of acting like real people just snark and quip their way through scenes until the next action scene.

Thats what you are supposed to do according to every management and leadership class I've taken. If someone has broken the rules you take them aside to talk to them and figure out a way to solve the problem, in this case it was explaining how Data expects those under his command to behave and they can correct the problem by having Worf step down if need be. If you have to ever correct someones mistake publicly you do so in a subtle way. One way Data could have dealt with Worf could be saying "Oh Mr. Worf I don't think I spoke properly I actually said Warp 8 not Warp 9. My mistake", make sure the correct order was given while letting Worf save face. You never want to make your subordinate/employee feel like you are attacking them or giving them a dressing down.

I don't think the issue was the warp speed, it was Worf actively showing his frustration with Data. Adding "Finally" when Data chose to act and whatnot. Data was 100% in the right to give him shit, Riker never would act like this with Picard in front of the crew. Evan Chakotay would only object to Janeway's insane plans in her quarters in private.

Alright I misheard the clip and agree with you that Data only got mad when Worf publicly made a comment that undermined Datas authority. End of the day Data was a good manager because he took Worf aside and told him why his behavior was wrong and the two talked it out and made an agreement on how to fix the problem.
 
What was the deal with the captain's yacht? Was that only an -E thing? I certainly don't remember it from TNG and can't seem to remember where it appeared in the movies.
 
You know there's someone out there who's triggered by the Data/Worf exchange because all they can see is a white man berating a black man.
 
The Borg would not want to assimilate the Federation if their data came from STD. Introducing such incompetent buffoons into the Collective would set the goal of perfection back thousands of years and maybe make it impossible

Oh sweaty. Data is one two three of a kind and thus the rarest, shiniest and most oppressed race in the galaxy. He can do nothing but punch up.

Just because he's yellow and good at math doesn't mean he's automatically Asian.
