One of my favorite Star Trek games was Star Trek : Shattered Universe. Shame that is was only on PS2 and Xbox. It was basically Wing Commander in a Star Trek Mirror universe skin.
I still own that game actually. I got it used as a kid and never really saw a reason to get rid of it. It really sucks though, every difficulty relies on spawning tons of enemy fighters, all of your non-homing weapons can barely hit dick. Its the kind of game where enabling invincibility only somewhat levels the playing field because the Excelsior is made of old pie tins and is always under attack in every level.

Because nobody ever seems to talk about the insane difficulty of the game I wonder if the PS2 version was patched to be easier. Its also kind of difficult to learn if you've played a lot of Crimson Skies since they control similar to one another but not quite the same.

The parade of TOS references was cool to see at least.

Elite Force 1 and 2 weren't bad and are running on the Quake 3 engine, so chances are they will still work right out of the box nowadays.
Elite Force 1 runs just fine on modern operating systems with one problem. Its installer is too old, so Windows will refuse to run it the same as if you try to run something meant for DOS. I got around this by installing it on an old WinXP I have lying around and then copying the installation folder onto my main computer, dunno if there's a GoG rerelease out there that fixes that.

I honestly don't remember it being so difficult that I couldn't beat it. I loved that there was finally a "starfighter" Star Trek game because I grew up playing TIE Fighter and X-Wing. There was also the added bonus of Mirror Universe, which I always liked.

Maybe the Xbox version was just broken, I don't know what to tell you.

They did an ok job with the Iconians but they were already established by TNG decades ago and not their original work and mostly look like some shit you'd see on the cover art of a Dissidea Final fantasy title. Ships and All.

Is there an overlap between the STO and XCOM universe?:stress:

It shouldn't really be possible to fight the Iconians in a conventional war. And was there really that much demand for a Tom Paris mission? Or the Krenim?

Seeing the Iconians become an important race in STO is cringe for me because they were already huge in the Star Trek fanfiction scene, to the point where talk about them would invade canon discussion on certain boards which drove people straight up the wall. Very little was established about them in the TNG episode anyway so I've always wondered why they became this huge meme.

Is there an overlap between the STO and XCOM fanbases? Because all this thing is missing is two Muton Elites.

I don't expect every MMO to be super-nuanced, but it shouldn't really be possible to fight the Iconians in a conventional war. I'm also puzzled as to why Cryptic keep plundering Voyager for ideas. Was there really that much demand for a Tom Paris mission? Or the Krenim? But I'm not really the audience for MMOs, so I dunno.

Meanwhile in STO: " hey here' a ballgag /"vorena bababdasdoo class Superchiggy TIER 666" can be yours for a chance at $249.99 and has all the current best stats in the game. (flavor text says the drop rate is 0.0000276322% aka not actually in the pack)"

How come nothing ever happens when any of the principal cast are taking a shit?
For that matter, why does pretty much every thing of interest happen when most if not all of the senior staff are all on the bridge? You'd think there would be at least one Romulan attack while Lieutenant Fuckwad McLiterallyWho was sitting in the big seat.
Well, there was an episode of The Next Generation that centered around a special anomaly that knocks out the power of the Enterprise, and it happens while most of the main characters aren't in their usual stations.

Picard is trapped in an elevator with some kids, Crusher and LaForge are stuck in the cargo bay and have to find a way to put out a fire before it mixes with the fuel and causes an explosion, Riker and Data venture through the ship to restore power, Worf helps O'Brien's wife give birth while tending to the wounded, and Troi is forced to take command of the bridge because she's the highest ranked out of everyone else there.

It's a really good episode, and it's one of my favorite Star Trek episodes of all time.

"Conundrum" did that. Data happens to be in Ten Forward when his memory is wiped. Data reasons that he's supposed to be behind the bar, mixing drinks.

So as I said earlier, I wrapped up watching Enterprise a few weeks ago and gave my thoughts on the show.

However, the thing about the series that has really stayed with me is that damn theme song!

Its amazing, but when I first popped it on, I was like "The fuck is this?!" and then with each time I listened to it, I found myself getting swept up in the song, to the point that I'd get pissed at the Netflix "Skip Intro" button. Fuck you! I'm listening to this song!

Its so cheesy, silly, and dated, but its also weirdly in line with the optimism of discovery and exploration that the show was geared towards, and it weirdly fit not just the show, but Star Trek as a whole.

It makes me laugh but warms my heart at the same time.

Worst theme song of the franchise that belongs in the ending credits at best and a 80s music video at worst.

Nothing wrong with that. I actually felt the same way about another show's opening (which also happens to have Scott Bakula as the star), Quantum Leap. It really grew on me after a while with the upbeat melody, which only made the fifth season's "we're badass now, so please watch us" opening all the more jarring.
I was thinking more along the lines of an episode where a red shirt wrestles with whether or not to wake Picard up from his beauty sleep. Complete with a grumpy and half-asleep Picard, in a robe and fuzzy slippers, stumbling onto the bridge.
Ensign: *knocks on the door to Picard's quarters* Uh, Captain?

Picard: *walks to the door with a groggy look on his face* Yes, Ensign?

Ensign: Well, uh, the thing is... we were hailed by an unknown vessel whose captain says the Enterprise is trespassing on their territory. They want to talk with you since you're the captain. What should I do?

Picard: *sighs heavily* Tell them I'll be out in a few minutes. Make sure there's a cup of earl grey near my chair. Dismissed. *goes to put his badge and rank pips on his bathrobe*

I've already posted this here, at least once... realistically multiple times now (I don't care enough to check):

If you didn't already know (and this is a fucking rabbit hole in itself for sure.) That some rando person was pairing the visual opening for Star Trek: Enterprise, with the theme song for some shitty mid-80's sitcom, "Perfect Strangers." And it still somehow fit perfectly, what would you think about that?

I'm only saying this here because it's funny if you look even deeper into this shit.. 'Family Matters,' was literally spinoff of 'Perfect Strangers,' But Family Matters also had an episode where James fucking Avery, i.e. Uncle Phil himself, had a cameo.

The Perfect Strangers theme song fits Star Trek better than the ENT "HURR FAITH" theme song.
I can get the cheesy appeal of the ENT theme song (And say what you want, the visuals of the ENT intro are glorious), but it just doesn't fit the tone of ST at all in my eyes and I always felt like it was a rather weird attempt to appeal to normies. The song always made me feel like ENT is ashamed to be ST. Well... that was my attitude back in the day. Now that I know what Star Trek shows actually look like when they are visibly repulsed by being Star Trek, that view has softened quite a bit.

Isn't that a fun thing for literally every IP out there?
Some installment of an IP 10 to 20 years ago is seen as the absolute lowpoint of the franchise, then someone makes a modern remake or sequel and suddenly people learn to appreciate what the former lowpoint tried to do. The old, bad thing is still not beloved, but people understand that it had its heart in the right place. A failed attempt to make something, but at least there was an attempt to make something. Nowadays, we can count ourselves lucky if the new installment is just a boring rehash - but most often, it's actually actively undoing the franchise with post-modern hottakes to character-assassinate the originals.

Star Wars had those atrocious and generally panned prequels. People thought it couldn't get any worse, now people acknowledge that the prequels were mostly bogged down with bad decisions here and there, but there's still a few good aspects to it and it genuinely attempted to do something to expand the trilogy, rather than copy-pasting or outright ruining it.
Star Trek had ENT, a show that was rather lackluster, but people nowadays appreciate what they tried to do. It's just that the show had a few bad decisions and it never truly applied the (genuinely cool) setting to its fullest.
Predator, Alien, Ghostbusters, the list goes on...
