I like to think the only reason they’re doing the “back to current year” thing is because their budget got slashed.

Nah, it's because everything post Orange man has to be political about now. It's why the first season couldn't be in a future where humanity had solved its issues. The Federation needs to be racist with dumb non-sensical analogues to American political issues from today. These morons are doubling down and just jumping to the present day. Which is dumb as hell because shows like Star Trek worked on being principled. Using examples where the liberalism and morality is clear. Not Picard ranting about gun rights and open borders in 2021.

I'm sure he wouldn't approve, but is he actually aware of what's being tweeted in his name? The man is pre-Baby Boomer, the Silent Generation.
He still makes the occasional public appearance and is still sharp as a tack. There is no reason to assume he is some fucking retard being jacked around like Stan Lee at the end of his life.
We had something like that happen in our family, too. Somebody conned my grandmother out of all her money. I guess that makes me wary, perhaps paranoid about these things.
This is why if you ever start feeling your mind going, give a durable power of attorney to someone you know you can trust. Otherwise interlopers can seek you out when your mind turns to applesauce and you can't see through con artists any more.

Season 2 happens in current year because the real audience of this thing are autistic sociopaths who can't feel empathy with anyone unless they're exactly like they are. That's why they want more blacks or gays, because unless a character looks like them, they can't relate.

I've narrowed down my top TOS babes to two. HD really changes the way I see these things.

Sherry Jackson as Andrea

Barbara Bouchet as Kelinda

There are a surprising amount of nudes for TOS guest actresses. Bouchet apparently took off her clothes for any Italian dude with a camera. But Jackson's only nude scene is in the rare French version of the movie Gunn (1967).

There's another TOS actress, Angelique Pettyjohn, that actually did porn.

Why do you make me beg?

Well, there was an episode of Voyager where the crew traveled back in time to 1996 and completely ignored the Eugenics Wars.

There was also an episode of DS9 where Sisko, Bashir, and Dax traveled to the year 2024 right before a series of riots that resulted in major societal change as a result of the disadvantaged rebelling, so it's entirely possible they could touch on that as well.
To be fair the Eugenics Wars mostly happened in Eurasia and were retconned to be a secret conflict anyway.

a Star Trek future is one where people don't need to flee their homelands because they aren't shit holes.
TELL THAT TO THE MAQUIS

Edit:
The shit I see now makes it look like Starfleet is a perpetual liberal arts campus where everybody just does whatever they want
Fun fact, when I graduated from art college, one girl (fine arts major) painted her body green. So life imitates art and vice versa!

TELL THAT TO THE MAQUIS
I don't think that the Maquis would even pass muster in what pretends to be Trek in the current year. So they want to keep those shitty Mexicans Cardies from taking der jerbs? Those fucking racists!

Too bad they were already entirely exterminated in DS9, they would have been the perfect "MAGA" stand in for Picard if they still existed.

With that said, I've already seen a lot of 'the usual people' *favorably* compare that shitty STP Season 2 trailer to previous Trek entries where they go back to the "present day" most notably Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, and that's a load of bullshit.

For one thing, in all of those instances so far, they went back in time from an objectively *positive* future, in the hopes of changing (presumably incongruently fake) alterations to history, so they could keep the optimistic Trek future intact.

The future of Star Trek Picard as it has currently been shown is most decidedly *not* optimistic. They already blew their load on "Orange Man Bad, so life is shit, even in STP." Going back in time to #thepresentday so they can presumably kill an orange man stand in to get back they where they already were, is just putting a hat on a fucking hat.

Yeah, nobody in America cares about what's going on in India. Even if an astronomer has a copy of the Botany Bay in her office.

Now the Millennium Gate...

Now I realize why I’m such an eddington fan, and was rooting for him the whole time. Mind blown.

Oh wow, season 2 of Picard. Much excitement.
I shall use my time and replay 25th Anniversary, Judgement Rites, and Voyager: Elite Force instead.

Don't forget A Final Unity, that was the best of 'em all!
Shiet, I don't even know that one. I might also put DS9: The Fallen on the list while I'm at it. Any others I'm forgetting?
/edit: I remember reading about Star Trek: Away Team in a magazine back then, and I really enjoyed Commandos and Desperados back then, so I might check that one out, too. Not that I'm really into vidya anymore...
