Apologies if this violates any board rules that I'm not aware of, but a recent post in the Star Wars Griefing Thread got me thinking that, with all of the shit going down because of Disney, Iger, Kennedy, Filoni and so forth, maybe it would be good to have a dedicated space to commemorate the good times in visual form.

I'll start with a few of my old favorites from years past.

The Vong are a little on the stylized side here, but I love the kineticism of this piece, the NJO setting, and the depiction of Mandalorian "battle sync."

When I was growing up the only Star Wars movie I seen was the Phantom Menace. The movie itself was okay but what I always cherished about Star Wars was both the music and artwork by artists like Ralph McQuarrie and the Brothers Hildebrandt. Their artwork fuels my imagination more than what the Original and Prequel trilogies could ever do.

Nice! I've always been in awe of the Hildebrandts and their ability to illuminate their works, as though the paintings themselves have sunbeams shining at them or through them... ❤

" We can't stay here! This is probe-droid country!" LOL 😂

Groovy selection. I love all of the Boba Fett pieces, of course, but that one of the AT-AT driver holding the lit flare on top of his wrecked machine is especially evocative, for some reason. I guess it makes the "war" in Star Wars feel that much more real?

Gotta love those propaganda/tourism posters. 😎

Here's a few more with no particular unifying theme, other than being EU-related:

Jade by caesar120

As you might be able to guess, this one was originally done for the old West End Games Thrawn campaign, and depicts Mara Jade's confrontation with Luke Skyalker's Dark Side clone (interestingly, the first few illustrations of Mara usually depicted her wearing a sort of formless camouflage jumpsuit, prior to the Dark Horse adaptation of Heir to the Empire popularizing the black, sleeveless catsuit look).

I'm just going to post the single image that proves the sequal trilogy we COULD have had - and how bad the one we got sucked. (and this image is getting harder and harder to find - I seem to keep losing the original)

This thread makes me sad. It reminds me how much love people had for this franchise because the dispire.

I don't have a picture at the moment, but wanted to comment on the Yuuzhan Vong art - A lot of people hated that arc but I loved it. Way better than the current, unoriginal, Empire v Rebels rehash we got with the sequels.

I never thought it was such a bad little story arc. It's not bad at all, really. Maybe it just needs a little love.

I said it on the SW thread before and I'll say it again here: The Yuuzhan Vong were the right idea, it just tripped in the execution.

If Disney had been smart, they would have taken that idea and figured out how to make it work for their sequel trilogy. Because sure, a completely new, never before seen foe attacking once the previous leaders are past their prime - it would make total sense for them to then work to raise up a new generation of heroes to fight.

The Rakatans were the Yuuzhan Vong done right. A species that's far advanced compared to the rest of the galaxy, with such barbaric practices that they put decent men to shame. Too bad they died out before the Republic even began. But maybe, if some small remnant of their empire remained with all its tech, and they're all dormant, waiting to be awakened, they can be a threat to the galaxy once more. These guys make the Sith look positively decent by comparison, and their technology makes even the Mandalorians look like primitive cavemen. They'll do just fine as a villain in a future series, or perhaps if they finished that comic series that took place during the Rakatan Empire's reign of terror.

This will forever be my favorite Star Wars image. I don't care what Lucas says or anyone else. Luke x Mara was awesome. That Disney crap will never hold a candle to the old EU.

I'm amazed that we haven't seen a remake of the Star Forge in a movie yet, I was 99% sure that was where they were going in Disney Wars (explaining how the First Order pulled a huge fleet out of nowhere) but nope just a bigger Death Star, and then more Death Stars.

That's exactly what I was thinking. They could have placed a Rakatan Warlord who was brought out of stasis after the Infinite Empire fell as the Supreme Leader of the First Order. It would explain A) where these new ships and that superweapon came from, and B) how the First Order managed to pull all this shit out of their ass despite owning a backwater section of space. But no, apparently you can build massive planetary weapons even after losing most of your empire. If that was the case, Palpatine could have made a dozen Death Stars, not just two, since he owned the whole fucking galaxy.

None of this crap made any sense.
