Starfield - Bethesda's new space IP: will probably be full of fun and easily trackable bugs

How do you think Starfield will turn out?

This is cope. I heard this same dance when their gamebryo engine became creation engine.
Yet they still have the same problem with multiple npcs at once, animations, cells, draw distance, and much, much more.
That's a Bethesda issue more than anything else. Doesn't matter if they change engines entirely, you still have garbage tier programmers working at Bethesda.

I'm looking around here and there, and it's really funny how supposed "Bethesda fans" are absolutely shitting on Starfield. It really tells you how much these people are devoted to ES/FO franchises more than anything.

The complaints from them that Starfield is just Fallout in Space is pretty rich too. What the fuck did these people expect?

In fairness, Elder Scrolls was put on the backburner for this game, and who knows what will happen with Fallout if this game becomes a runaway hit (I'm not sure if "handing it off" to Obsidian would work given how mediocre The Outer Worlds was). Starfield has to prove that it was worth putting those two series' on ice, anything less than the reception Skyrim received would be perceived as a waste of time.

. Calling it now, dialogue options in Starfield will be a return to 'yes', 'no but yes', and 'sarcastic reply' like we got in Fallout 4 as well.
I want to say I'd be surprised simply for how much Todd has said that Fallout 4 dialogue system was a mistake.

But I could also see the only thing they took away from it is "no voice acting" and still keep it stupid as fuck.

Yeah to be honest it really feels like Bethesda doesn't have any programmers. Being someone who has played Fallout 4 for so long, it's very easy to recognize it's the same engine with new coats of paint. It would be exceptionally funny if people imported Fallout 4 mods. Personally, I am most hype for Star Citizen mods. It could be possible to make mods for custom ships where you assemble fragments of Star Citizen ship designs altogether into a functioning whole design. I want my space penguin (Aegis Avenger).
But I was told that real Elder Scrolls fans loved Elder Scrolls Online lol
Elder Scrolls Online is actually a great game, not memeing. The lore team is right behind it with tons of world exploration and books throughout the world. Zenimax knows what makes a good mmo. Not once have I seen people shill Discords for ESO because the in-game communication system is really well done.

The whole game was restructured in the One Tamriel update years ago to allow multiplayer gameplay to have more emphasis, but prior to it you could solo the entire game in first-person camera view like an actual Elder Scrolls main title. All expansions and DLC can be challenged at any player level so you don't feel left behind as one would in Final Fantssy XIV. Also unlike Final Fantasy XIV, Zenimax supports modding of the game in any shape or form.

For a game which also had a shakey start in their first year, Elder Scrolls Online really blew themselves out of the water. What's baffling is that people continue to have a negative stigma towards it. The voice acting is Oblivion levels of goofy, tbh.

I agree that the lore is good, and it was cool visiting locations i'd only read about in previous games.
but
the actual gameplay fucking sucks. the combat, the character classes - i hate it. It feels like they constructed the skeleton of the game before they decided to make it an Elder Scrolls game
just my opinion

Isnt the combat supposed to be really shit, even by MMO standards?

That would also explain why in the german dub for New Vegas the Legion VAs consistently mispronounced "Caesar". They did them in order, and did not listen to the original voices.
Starfield looks kinda bland. I love me some SciFi and I'll be honest, as much as I hated Skyrim and Fallout 4 for their retarded stories and shallow gameplay, I still had some semblance of fun with them, treating them as mindless timewasters. Fallout 4's settlement system was actually the high point for me with some mods, but nothing that would actually give some long term enjoyment.
Looks like Starfield is gonna be similar.

Not really, no. The gameplay is intensely flexible by nature of the Elder Scrolls series having racial, class, and other skill sets. Other MMO games typically have a class, and that's all you get (though Final Fantasy XIV formerly branched around with armoury system). Elder Scrolls Online doesn't limit what you should get, so you could be a tank-based mage character. Sure people will think you're a lunatic for not following meta, but fuck em. What makes the game good is not being pigeon-holed into a path. Pick any race you want or minmax.

Combat itself is very standard for an MMO. Your typical fare of cooldowns, damage over time, and areas of attack. It's not like Final Fantasy XI where you stand in a single place and shit spells like a cannon. Think more like Aion levels of activity. You need to be actively moving, dodging, and haulin ass. It's really the same as regular Elder Scrolls games but more diverse skills available. Like I said in my prior post, you could play the game in first person like a main series title and it just feels the same. Probably would not recommend doing that during mass PVP.

Possibly the best part of Elder Scrolls Online is the criminal system, imo. You can pickpocket NPCs, murder NPCs, rob their house, and sell them to underground vendors for extra money. There are hundreds of unique items to steal all with their own neat descriptions, many even functional. There's also an achievement for stealing a full outfit's worth of clothing. In comparison, Oblivion and Skyrim's system is very poor. I used to just spend hours running around Windhelm pickpocketing drunkards scattered around the city then sell the goods to the black market doyens with the male Argonian exotic dancer. If you are caught stealing, criminal levels wear off overtime. You can pay fine or bribe guards to ignore you. Good shit.

Finding people to play Elder Scrolls Online with is like trying to find a Kiwi Farms user IRL. Nobody would ever admit to it and call you crazy if you do.

I've been told by someone who understands game engines or whatever that the current Gamebryo/Creation Engine is a Ship of Theseus nowadays, which I guess is a good thing but it seems to retain the same old problems as you said.

I played ESO when Greymoor was out, while the lockdowns were in full swing. I spent most of my time manipulating the market to make millions of gold, decorating my ingame home, and doing Vet Trials (raids). ESO is a great game but the combat in the higher level combat is (was?) really, really bad.

Basically every DPS class needed to weave a light attack (left click) after every ability. You also needed to make sure that the animation was cancelled at the correct time to maximize the damage you could do, and do all of this while dodging mechanics. I spent a LOT of time hitting a iron atronach (raid target dummy) to perfect this, and eventually was able to join high level groups and get my suit of vet gear.

The reason I stopped was because I spent so much time practicing, I ended up hurting my right arm pretty badly. I had to stop raiding because it would just flare up my arm. Eventually I found a new job so I stopped playing all together, but ESO is the one mmo I would go back and play casually if I had to choose one.

The combat sucks. Its clearly meant for a controller and the devs probably didnt anticipate autists would animation cancel with a mouse and learn to burn bosses so fast they couldnt do half the mechanics. Its fine and chill if you do any normal stuff, like quests or dungeons, but man those vet trials, I had to really focus to not fuck up and fall behind on meters.

That being said the game was a lot of fun. The player run economy is probably one of the best aspects, I ended up becoming a Grand Master Crafter (can craft every substat of gear) and made a ton of gold, which allowed me to buy the MTX, since Zenimax was actually pretty cool with people exchanging gold for stuff from the shop. There was always something to do when you logged on, and the PVE stuff wasnt locked behind anything, so you could do any raid at any time and still benefit from it. Its a very good girlfriend/wife game, my wife loved decorating her house and her end game was collecting rare furniture to display, which actually seems like is most peoples end game from what I saw.

I just realized this is the Starfield thread and not the ES thread so I apologize for going so off topic.
