Starfield - Bethesda's new space IP: will probably be full of fun and easily trackable bugs

How do you think Starfield will turn out?

>4 major cities

Would rather have 20 planets.
Would have been nice if they just specified that just like the actual solar system, most of the planets are going to be barren shit heaps with a resource that's hard to get because dealing with planets is a pain in the ass.

I was pretty excited to hear about the spaceship stuff though. I like having dialog with other ships and I really like the idea of flying around stealing spaceships from people. I hope they let me toss corpses into space but I'm not getting my hopes up. If I can just be a space bastard I'll probably pick it up.

Spaceships look really soild for a studio that hasn't touched vehicles outside horses, im excited to see what parts we get and what weird and wacky ships we can make, i wanna make a giant fuck off battleship.

I wonder if earth will be in game, its the 2300's so i doubt its a total baren waste land , hopefully the major city comment just means most inhabited planets have small to medium sized cities to explore.

4 cities?

Dude even Oblivion had more cities. How much of those 1000 planets are just gonna be barren planets?

If anything I'd rather they take Gothics approach to map building, it may be small but it's packed full of content and details.

There was something mentioned about finding Earth artifacts so maybe something really bad happened to it. Maybe it's covered in mutants or something and really dangerous. I guess that would just make it a fallout clone though, but they have a lot of assets for that so that might still be cool.

...do they *really* need to specify that is going to be the case?

Are people actually expecting every planet to be like Earth with populations and such?

My bet is earth is a wasteland via pollution and the surface is like mars or something, that or humanity just left it for another , bigger , better planet, maybe some starsector tier fuckery is going on.

Maybe the planet New atlantis is on is actually earth and thats a mind fuck you learn later on in game

The leak I posted, which had information confirmed with the gameplay reveal, said Earth is a poophole and that you cannot go to it.

"We’re also careful to let you know that’s what [that procedural content] is. So if you look at space, you know there are a lot of ice balls in space, so that was one of our big design considerations on this game is, ‘What’s fun about an ice ball?’ And it’s OK sometimes if ice balls aren’t- it is what it is. We’d rather have them and say yes to you, ‘Hey, you can land on this.’ Here are the resources, you can survey it, and then you can land and spend ten minutes there and be like, ‘OK, now I’m going to leave and go back to the other planet that has all this other content on it, and I’m going to follow this questline.’"
He is basically saying exactly that. They're using procedural generation to fill in a bunch of nothing planets so they're not quite completely barren, but they won't be in any way interesting.

He also said that the mod community will be able to mod stuff onto empty planets, so expect a bunch of mods where people's weird fetishes take over entire planets and star systems. It's worth mentioning that he also stated that it is NOT seamlessly transitioning from ground to space like No Mans Sky, so at least he's learning to temper expectations early.

This game is going to be interesting, for sure. It's Todd's baby, and we'll see the culmination of almost three decades of his experience in game design. Will it be the best space sim since Wing Commander: Privateer? Or will Todd's lackadaisical attitude towards bug fixes and QA ultimately damn him? I can't wait to find out!

And I gotta laugh at all the ignorant comments I've read, that say something to the effect of "Microsoft's resources will help make their games less buggy." Don't these people know who MS are? They're the company that invented the Windows update! Hell, Windows was a fuckin' joke back when Todd was still in the chess club!

I am looking forward to Starfield, especially since it will be on gamepass. I just pray for mod support.
I will be playing it, but I wouldn't be pissed if it got delayed again.
