Starfield - Bethesda's new space IP: will probably be full of fun and easily trackable bugs

How do you think Starfield will turn out?

Starfield's trailer felt a bit drab at first, they definitely could have picked a better planet to showcase the gunplay (which looked mediocre) in than a grey world with crabs. I really hope the procedurally generated areas have the capability of having different types of biomes. Not every planet/moon should look the same in each area, especially if it's habitable. I'll temper my doom with a dash of cautious optimism. Really hope there is a hardcore mode!

From a bunch of context clues in the footage it's somewhat clear that's part of the introductory quest line. If you look over the stuff it's pretty clear how at least one of the origin starting points will play out.
Start work at mining company -> Discover artifact -> Constellation contacts you. The mission on there is even called "One Small Step" which sounds about as intro mission as an intro mission could possibly be named. They did say a while back that there would be different starts depending upon certain character creation decisions though. What I really hope is that the main quest line will be more like Morrowinds in that it isn't "HOLY FUG SAVE DA WURLD" right off the bat and instead starts off with smaller stakes so you still feel like you're not being a retard if you're just doing faction quests and dawdling around instead of saving the universe with a maguffin.

I guess I'm just a fucking dork who doesn't really love hard sci-fi. I would have enjoyed some alien races or more intriguing designs. Bethesda, if nothing else, has always had pretty decent art direction so I'm bummed to see that this is so boring and visually unappealing to me.

Also fucking Xbox exclusivity, now I have to actually upgrade my shitbox PC to play this in all its buggy glory.

100%. Half the appeal of sci-fi for me is the cool aliens, so setting a game in ultra sci-fi future, then forcing everyone to be boring, basic bitch ass humans is just absolutely confusing to me.

But then, according to at least Larian, when presented with fantastical creatures and interesting cultures, most people just make brown haired, brown eyed humans anyways.

I agree, the fun aspect for a lot of games -- Bethesda games especially, is getting to explore the unique cultures and races of a fantastical setting. Maybe they didn't want to step on Mass Effect's toes, all I know is that it appeals less interesting to me as a result.

As for Larian, well, it's one thing to limit the player character to a human only, it's another to cut fantasy races out of the game as set dressing. Even then, I think their complaining is mostly overstated. The majority of people will play something close to themselves the first time, and then vary their creations after playing the game for a while. With an EA game that most people will restart after the first release anyway, I'm not surprised 80 percent of players picked generic human male fighters.

I havent played a Bethesda RPG since FO3 so I am ready for this. Hope they go all out with the cosmic horror stuff for this game.

Actually smug anime man makes a good point

Why the fuck do we not have fallouts combat limb damage and gore system

Why the fuck do developers make guns without understanding the basic principles of how a gun fucking works

I just wonder how Bugthesda is gonna fuck this up. You know they are, that seems to the the MO of AAA game companies is to try and piss off their paying customers as much as possible. So what do you think it'll be? Will there be some live service bullshit or pay to win garbage foisted in that no one asked for? Will there be overpriced day one DLC? Will they charge for paint colors for your spaceship? $20 for fuckin' blue, as Angry Joe once said. Will it be horrendously buggy and broken and unplayable, even by Bethesda standards? Or will they try to shoehorn in a bunch of BLM / transgender agitprop in the main storyline?

Playing a human instead of relying on "My personality is that I have rainbow skin and am half-catgirl half-dragonboy." is what's actually rare and unique these days. And so often writers just lazily make blue "aliens" that are human in every way except they're blue and people go "Wow! What amazing unique aliens!"

I'd take blue people over a universe full of brown people.

Actually i always prefer playing as a men race rather than a mer or beast race in Elder Scrolls.
Maybe is because i prefer combat or mixing with magic rather than go full archer (Bosmer), Mage (Altmer), more focused magic than combat (Dunmer) and i don't like anything related to green. Sorry Orcs.
Beast races are worse IMO.

I actually really liked Daggerfall. I wouldn't like it if it came out now but the world felt really big and that was a pretty unique experience then.

I wonder if this game will repeat the Bethesda-honored tradition to have a long-ass tutorial/intro sequence you cannot skip.

I also wonder if the spaceships are just NPCs wearing spaceship models, running really fast on invisible bridges.

I can't believe how only in Morrowind there's not long gay intro.
Not even in Arena, not even in Daggerfall. But later in Oblivion, and all the shit bethsoft spawned.
Lol.

They want to wow the casual gamer brain with big explosions and cool setpieces right out the gate so they have to slam all that Call of Duty shit into the first hour and a half otherwise people will turn the game off.

I am genuinely not sure if you're saying Arena and Daggerfall have long gay intros here.

I don't mean the initial cutscenes, I mean the initial dungeons.
Oblivion and Skyrim had like 20 minutes of long gay intros mixed with somewhat long initial dungeons? Yeah.
