Starfield - Bethesda's new space IP: will probably be full of fun and easily trackable bugs

How do you think Starfield will turn out?

What stood out to me was how little was actually shown in the preview. Lots of walking around, looking at doubtless carefully-chosen alien vistas, and shooting people. A smidgen of mining, scanning, talking, and like 0.2 seconds of lockpicking. No hacking whastoever, or anything else technical, and that concerns me greatly, because in a sci-fi game getting into the computer network of a spaceship or base should be a big deal, and it looks entirely absent. A tiny localized network was fine in Fallout games as most of the tech was fucked, but there isn't an excuse for a high-tech setting to be missing out on that.

The footage looks cherry picked. All the best locations and hubs etc. .
The characters still look like Oblivion characters (even with "scanned faces").
The Graphics look like 2013, except for the lighting (some things reminded me of DX:HR)
The gun play also kinda looks like DX:HR (not good, not terrible with exceptions) and they only showed some, but it has more guns than any of their games (see #1).
Planets are the new Oblivion cities. Insert cut scene to mask loading (also not having to deal with physics), gg ez.
30 FPS on consoles for "consistency"? If the physics depend on the FPS, or stability of FPS, shouldn't that be a problem for PC too?
Facial animations 404, mouth only (better than Andromeda I guess?).

Now keep in Mind that the presumed release date is this September!

I looked through a YT video and the comment section is 100% hyped.
"durr, so manyyy great featurrrs"
"much better than earlier footage hurrr"

You just know, that all those faggots are gonna pre-order the shit out of that game.
It might not be terrible, but I'm highly sceptical.

PS:
My worst gripe with TES after Morrowind (Fallout too, 3 being the worst at this IMHO) is, how the mouse isn't quite responsive enough for an action FPS.
Morrowind was ok, since it was still rolling the dice in the background, but with hit scan stuff that really gets annoying.
If you want to see a game have crisp mouse movement, try Borderlands 1.

So hey ripped off No mans Sky, Fallout and some other elements from Space sim games that I dont know and slapped on top of each other.
Space combat is simplified Elite Dangerous, or a super super simplified Star Citizen. A lot of the other stuff seems like Star Citizen as well.

I'm totally convinced it will be mid at best.
Are you sure, are you sure it's not gonna be literally the best thing ever made?

Seriously why are people like this? I mean it's just as possible it's another Fallout 76 or Redfall, even ignoring the fact that Skyrim was an absolute fucking mess til the modders fixed it as per usual.

There was a supposed anon leaker (not the one from 2021), that was answering questions in /stag/ (Starfield General) on /vg/. Archive: https://arch.b4k.co/vg/thread/433450773/#433567467

Some interesting worrying takeaways:
  • You cannot swim, this has some weight since we didn't see the player entering any bodies of water in the marketing so far. Also something I didn't notice until anon pointed it out: there are no rivers, or streams of water.
  • The United Colonies are inspired by the 12 colonies from Battlestar Galactica. As in, there are multiple colonies/planets each with their own history, lore, culture and possibly language. They are mentioned multiple times in the game, and are an important part of the lore of the UC. However, the colonies don't exist in the game. WTF Tood, why?
  • No ground tansport. I thought this was going to be DLC or an expansion. However, according to anon, the procedural generation is too heavy to build the terrain at high speed to allow for vehicles.
  • You can join every faction. However, like in FO4, the main quest will have a crossroads where you must select one faction to move the story forward.
  • There are three religions. The snakes are space vikings, most are pirates and perform blood rituals (based). The Universalists are hippy Christians and a character of Constellation belongs to them (soybois). The Enlightened are druggies in space who follow a modern space-messiah.
    • Anon did not mention if you could join them beyond character traits, and I doubt we could.
  • The biggest ships we can build are equivalent to corvettes in-game. The biggest ships we can destory are frigates, a class bigger than corvette.
  • In-game store for DLC, and the return of paid mods.
    • I suspected this would happen. And I would go even further: Bethesda and MS want Starfield to be a single player live service game. Expect DLC releases per quarter. Todd hinted that he wants Starfield to be a 10-year game, and I suspect he means Bethesda makes money from players for 10 years.
Anon also spoiled the story, I'll spoiler it in case anyone cares:
The precursor aliens are revealed to actually not be aliens at all,but ancient humans that had a galaxy spanning empire in the distant past. They destroyed themselves in a civil war that is thematically meant to reflect the conflict between the UC and the Freestars. The last remnants of them split into a faction that stayed behind on a ring world and another faction that took a colony ship to a distant planet (Earth) where they reverted back into primitive tribals; Meant to mirror the history of the UC.
The artifacts the player collects during the game use engrams (genetic memory) to reveal things about the precursors and allows you to tap into some of the psionic powers they had. The first (minor) type of artifact is basically like word walls from Skyrim and are meant to encourage and reward exploration. The second type of artifact (major) are tied to the story and their engrams contain parts of a star map. The end game is you putting together this star map with the aid of Constellation, leading to the ring world and the remains of the precursors. Exploring the ring world is the end game.
The entire theme of the game is the Ouroboros. This can be seen in everything from historic mirroring, to the engram system and even in the ring architecture of the precursors.

Well that story is pretty retarded and done to death, so Emil probably wrote it.

They even used the same name for an alien species in Halo, the Precursors. The total dearth of creativity is shocking.
I've thought about it more and its even more of a Halo clone. The civil wars are also a major plot point in halo, that lead to the creation of the spartan program. I'm also pretty sure the forerunners had some sort of civil war in the shitty nu-lore by 343.
