Starfield - Bethesda's new space IP: will probably be full of fun and easily trackable bugs

How do you think Starfield will turn out?

I've posted about this before in either the Beyond Skyrim thread or the Skyrim Modding thread, but the Beyond Skyrim team has a stranglehold on any province mod, they have ins with the admins of Nexus and will go out of their way to shut down any mod that does any provinces that aren't entirely fictional (as in made by the modder and not a canon elder scrolls location). There was a sole modder that made the entirety of Blackmarsh as a world space (no dungeons or NPCs) and Beyond Skyrim went after it like a rabid dog and got it DMCA'd for allegedly using a 'stolen' asset from BS (this is not true, the modder even went through it and checked). The project is dead, apparently the guy that made it just left modding and is now working with Unreal Engine to make his own game.
I recall hearing something similar, I remember it being someone who did Valenwood but I just might be remembering this guy incorrectly.

Beyond Skryim and their trannys fucking suck. About the only good thing I could see from Bethesda having more of a hand in the modding scene is offering a real alternative from Nexus, but I doubt that will be a real thing thanks to them being against Script Extenders.

oh yeah he did Valenwood as well, knew I was forgetting something. He made two Skyrim size worldspaces in like a year or something and BS threw a shitfit and unpersoned him. I'm not sure of this but I think shortly after they announced they were making a Valenwood or Blackmarsh project all of a sudden, it was one of the regions they said they weren't going to do or something.

I dunno, mods are fun but I'll be honest even 90% of the "great" shit people recommend to me for Skyrim ends up being janky shit that ultimately breaks something in the game that becomes a pain in the ass 20+ hours into a playthrough.
The only Skyrim mods I'm interested in these days are QoL mods. Maybe one day I'll try one of these gay dark souls style combat overhaul packages but as far as quest mods or even most minor overhauls go, they fucking suck. Oblivion had way better quest mods.

In my limited experience of quest mods, Fallout 4 has some okay ones but New Vegas has the best by far imo. The Skyrim ones, LOL

Excellent marketing decision. Those fuckers will promote a game that will run like hot garbage in any system in the world doesn't matter what.
The same with most industry who will promote and sell their hot garbage

I dont understand, why does AMD = bad perf? Why are people seething so hard over no DLSS? Bethesda games are notoriously CPU bound, are these idiots using DLSS for everything? God I hate upscalers and TAA, its like everybody is so afraid of visible pixels that they would take a blurry smeary ghosting mess over seeing any aliasing.

I don't get what the deal is with this AMD thing. What is the point of this tech anyway? What benefit does this bring the game? Who plays a Bethesda anything for graphics the core of the experience has always been the gameplay with them.

I don't get it either. Nvidia shills are having a shitfit because they think it wont have DLSS support, because they are using their $1k gpu just to play games with an ai upscaler. The game has Vulkan now, you can just inject DLSS. Besides, the Xbox is an AMD chip, obviously they get AMD sponsorship. It's not like Bethesda games even need DLSS or any upscaler since they are all CPU bound, not GPU, Papyrus runs on the CPU and isn't threaded so its always going to be CPU bound (made worse by shitty modders with bloated scripts). If you cant run it at 4k without using an upscaler to run it at 900p internally, just turn the settings down or don't play at 4k.

The only really viable career from modding would be art, or level design, and Bethesda modders fail at the art part since they don't know how to retopologize and just stick stuff in outfit studio. Modding is a lot easier than actually writing the game systems from scratch, they are just using all the existing actual game and just adding new things on top. It always makes me sneed when I see modders say they are better than Bethesda, as shit as Bethesda is at least they are actually making games, not just adding on to already existing things.
not really, it gives you experience and a portfolio, which is always valuable for a new hire. bonus points if it's a mod of the same engine so you don't even have to get up to speed.

the bigger question is why you would want to work in the mainstream videogame industry these days, and not go indie or apply that skillset to a job that actually pays accordingly and keep doing it as a hobby.

sturgeon's law applies to everything.

it's because they got the fame of having shit support in the GPU side and it stuck.

When was the last time a NVidia or AMD sponsorship made much of a difference in a game? Last time I can think of is how Crytek obscenely tessellated the water in Crysis 2, which could only be explained as a fuck you to AMD owners.
I feel like it means so little in the age where shit is clearly developed for consoles first, if it ever meant anything at all.

Consoles are AMD other than the Switch (not that its even in the equation). Devs/publishers just don't care about PC ports since they know people will buy them anyway, and PC is a tiny minority compared to the install base of the consoles.

As an aside it sucks how tessellation died out, it looked really good and the performance impact these days is much less. I've only seen it really used for landscapes and oceans these days. Parallax occlusion mapping is similar and what everything uses now, but it looks bad at extreme angles and it only works with flat surfaces. No clue why it stopped being a thing, probably related to consoles as is the case with all fancy PC game tech. RIP sound cards, games still don't sound close to the EAX stuff of the mid 2000s. OpenALsoft is pretty good at emulating it, but its just not as good as the actual hardware, also a bitch to set up.

Consoles having AMD was actually what made me decide to go with AMD for my most recent PC Build.

Maybe I'm ignorant, but I thought it'd was to be expected that anything releasing 1st party would be more geared towards AMD, or at the very least, not have any extra focus on nvidia.
