Steven Universe fandom (Gemtlemen)

At this point, I'm just waiting until the show gets canceled and smething "problematic" like Uncle Grampa, keeps going.
Their reactions will be great

My dream scenario is they cancel Steven Universe and then MLP gets picked up by CN and put in the exact same time slot. It will never happen, of course, but imagine the pure rage.

I sat down and watched about 2 episodes of SU and.....I just don't see what the appeal is.

Can someone explain what makes people so head over heels for this show? It just seems like any other run of the mill cartoon of the last 4-5 years.
It's a pretty good show, IMO, but the quality of the show isn't what they care about. They only care about how "progressive" it is. It's one of the few shows that comes close to reaching their nigh unachievable standards for diversity (a lesbian couple is part of the main cast, a family from Africa runs the town's pizza shop, some of the female characters are sort of chubby, stuff like that). However, most of the "diversity" the Tumblr fandom obsesses over is just them projecting their own special snowflake labels onto characters that have none. Stuff like "This character is trans/autistic/black/whatever because I say so, and if you disagree, you're transphobic/ableist/racist/whateverphobic, you shitlord!" That's the main appeal of the show to most of the Tumblr fanbase. Essentially, they're using it as an excuse to put themselves on a pedestal to be worshiped, and to bully and exclude people who aren't like them. Which is basically against the entire message of the show, but like I said, they don't actually give two shits about the show itself.

Is there anyone on tumblr trolling the hell out of these people just by drawing all the characters in ways that are problematic? Seems like an obvious and easy one, so somebody must be doing it.
Yes.

Yes they are
.

So basically they like it because they can bully people over it, especially the actual children the show is supposedly for.
Pretty much, yeah. For them, it's not so much a TV show as it is a platform to rally against people and things they don't like.

I never thought I'd see the day when bigots decided a children's TV show would be the best platform for their cause.

To extremists no matter what side there is no such thing as something for the sake of entertainment it must be a mouthpiece for their cause.

I never thought so either. Mainly because it's somewhat unprecedented.

This is pretty much a thing that could only have happened now. Remember what animation was like back in the 90s, or even 2000s? I don't think anything like this could have happened then.

It could have been anything and was many times before. What makes SU different from say, Adventure Time or other cartoons popular among adults is that it doesn't take reaching to see easily observable progressive talking points. It's very easy to mouthpiece with.

That's not to say they won't abandon it the second it becomes unpopular/makes a mistake, because they have. Just a few short years ago they were pushing another CN show as the bastion of progressive morality but basically have forgotten about it now. They keep an eye out for things that they can use as a platform.

No it was there. It just wasn't this extreme.

I can understand Adventure Time, but I'm gonna have to ask for examples about anything before that...

It was subtle but it was for things that didn't hurt anyone like making sure there were token ethnic friends in children shows or even earlier than that when we had things like G.I with very pro American messages.

Which show was that?
