Steven Universe - Now a Griefing Thread

They should've just had Star/Tom and Marco/Jackie and left it at that, or have Star/Marco after the beginning of S3. The former means no episodes dedicated to shipping drama and it would subvert expectations in a way that's actually kind of interesting. The latter gets rid of all the "will they or won't they" pointlessness since everyone knew they'd get together.

Also not only shipping that ruined the show. I feel they misused the villain Toffee. The finale would have been better if he was the the finale villain instead of a character who started out as a joke.

From what I know of the show, I feel Battle for Mewni would've been an ideal stopping point. Ironically getting another 2 season order with no plan in place was what killed the show in the end. It's not often you see something being a victim of its own success.

I agree the show didn't really seem to want to do after Battle of Mewni.

When Toffee was introduced in the show, gravity falls was still going on and around that time it was clear Bill Cipher was a serious and dangerous threat for our characters for that show. It was clear Toffee was being sent up similar to Bill Cipher as in a villain who was more dangerous and more serious than what they usually deal with.

I agree they should have just had two seasons and than also had Battle of Mewni. Because honestly the season 3 and 4 villains really didn't interest me as Toffee did. Honestly that would be my biggest take away of the show wasting a perfectly good villain.

Pretty stupid title if you're trying to frame it as a good thing.

I stopped reading at the PTSD part.

Overall, it's mostly about how Steven has "effeminate" power, that the show follows a specific format that's shared by nearly everything else that was about an heroic protagonist, and that Steven somehow got PTSD from the first few seasons.

Still glad that I didn't watch Future.
Future was pretty good honestly. If you're not a fan of how SU does stuff in general it's not going to win you over though.

Last thing I'll say about Future (and much of the later eps of the main show) is that it feels like it tries to be the Bojack Horseman of Cartoon Network, what with the protag having to deal with depression/mental illness, repressed feelings towards his family and everything he went through, unhealthy coping mechanisms, ect. All of that, but with magic/alien stuff. However, Bojack had the fortune of having semi-competent writers who could tackle the topics the show was trying to convey, such as the actual damage of being born to deeply broken people and handling said depression in extremely unhealthy ways (Bojacks copious drug and alcohol use), the lasting aftermath of lashing out, and what it's like carrying so many toxic, intrusive thoughts. That, and Future only had a handful of eps to wrap everything up. Oh, and the dead people stayed fucking dead, much like real life.

Steven had Greg, Connie, the Gems, most of the townies, fucking everyone adoring him and actually liking him enough to give him that stupid ALL-HEALING hug at the end. I don't care if they showed him going to therapy, the whole ending was rushed and stupid.

Bojack had no family actually liking him, most of his friends either alienating/distancing themselves from him (Todd, Princess Caroline), or dying (Directly: Sarah Lynn, Indirectly: Herb) or leave his life (Hollyhock) BECAUSE of him.

TL;DR: The washed-up, drunk horse man is more accurate to depicting a damaged person than the space rock Messiah.

I'm still haven't seen this season, but I'm not surprised that the writers pulled another deus ex machina to save the ending.

Hopefully, it'll be the last of this show.

I think it was more of a last-ditch attempt to have Steven show some sort of character development. We've had him randomly show powers out of nowhere (eg: being able to communicate with the cluster) and be able to almost use them perfectly after trying them out for a few minutes, and his crisis with trying to understand his mom/his former life served more of a plot convenience for the writers to unpaint themselves out of a corner than anything.

With SU, 9 times out of 10, Steven doesn't learn anything. The episode presents a problem, Steven suggests something, the gems say "no that's stupid", and then later come around to see Steven's point of view. I know the writers are trying to push a "love and friendship fix all" view, but it doesn't hurt that Steven learns that he's wrong sometimes and maybe not everyone can be rehabilitated or fixed. Even Jasper, the gem made up to be some sort of foil to Steven's idealism, comes around at the end of the main series when the diamonds are doing the healing hot tub thing.

With that in mind, it makes all of the writing about Steven's mental issues so, so much worse imo. Oh, and the portrayal of those that were negatively affected by the destruction of the Diamond System, yeah that can go fuck right off, there was legitimacy to their complaints, but the show goes out of its way to make them cartoonishly evil (Eyeball and Aquamarine are almost literal expys of Jessie and James), or treat Jasper like absolute dogshit (insert how Combat Vets with PTSD and severe emotional issues are/were treated here).

Jasper chose not to get help every single time she was offered it. You can't force redemption on someone, it's something they have to actively want and like with Bluebird Jasper simply did not give a shit about the CG's care bears bullshit and just wanted to be strong. Steven gave her the fight she wanted and she finally got closure in that regard. Now she's living in Little Homeworld and has the possibility of interacting with others and growing as a person.

I wouldn't call that a bad ending per se, more like one that respects her choices since no one told her to go live there.

Looks like Rebecca is back, and she's hosting her own Charity stream for the Trevor Project with Ben Levin

If anyone wants to watch it live for themselves and ask the both of them questions, here's a link to it: https://www.instagram.com/rebeccasugar/
I appreciate that she stays off twitter unless it's to do stuff for charity or shill something her friend's worked on. More industry professionals could stand to be more...well, professional really.

Looking at you, Alex.

By God if there is a compendium of stuff that is the embodiment of "wasted potential," this thing should be plastered all over it's media section.

Like, this shit could be 10/10 globally acclaimed (and not for the faggotry) kino if they went along with what the plot demands it be - a sort of morality play, with episodic "messages" in the style of the (really) old cartoons.

Steven, the spoiled annoyingly sweet kid spreading American globohomo liberal democracy to terminally retarded aliens with his cast of diverse™ (and if you look deeply enough, all "coded" to be some sort of stand in for a degenerate demographic) using the power of friendship and love? Cringe, reddit.

Steven, the spoiled annoyingly sweet kid forced to take increasing responsibilities for those who he cares about, visibly maturing in the process, culminating in when he has the fate of not only the whole human race, but also the gem race in his hands, being forced to push his wits and his own morality to their very limits in order to convince a power so great it can't possibly be defeated by force to stand down and maybe even reconsider their actions, but preserving his sense of self, friends and loved ones still, never letting the power get to his head? Based, redpilled, lindy, kino, actually non-reddit wholesome.

This franchise's only hope of salvation and potential fulfillment is to be picked up by some upstart preferably Slav studio that gives no heed to the globohomo demands and actually not only remakes the whole thing but greatly expands upon it. Sadly, unlikely to happen

SJWs haven’t been known to make a good, compelling, and coherent stories without inserting random dogshit.

SJWs are a bunch of masochistic piss babies, roaches, scallywags, fake-ass niggas, busters. Never hire them, always do the opposite of what they say, and never pander to them, as a matter of fact do the opposite.

Not only will your work be of higher quality, they'll secretly like it too, and maybe their minds will be opened and they stop with the bullshit (impossible, since they're sarkics who have no soul, or demons)
