DAMMIT - well, even though I hate it, whereas SU isn't my cup of tea like I hoped... That explains why John K still has some defenders when it comes to Ren & Stimpy. And yes, even despite being caught for what he was, John K still has plenty of blind, hard-headed defenders of that particular show (even if it was Bob Camp that it noteworthy, even after all these years, too.).

Have you seen our thread on the dude?

Alex Hirsch might have the ole' TDS but that's a drop in the ocean compared to the fucking depths that make up John K.'s neurosis.

Not going to lie, hadn’t heard about Grace Rolek and I’m disappointed but not surprised.
And I can appreciate Rebecca Sugar doing her job and keeping quiet on social media, especially post 2016. Say what you will about her, she’s at least smart enough to know how the internet works and doesn’t run her mouth.
Learning that Grace Rolek was that left-leaning was disappointing but I wasn't too surprised about Yi being that much of a leftist cunt (marginalized who-gives-a-fuck, kids in cages, patriarchy, etc.). Estelle's also a bit left-leaning but I chalk that up to being the female equivalent of Kanye West. The biggest surprises for me were the other VAs, out of the rest of them Deedee Magno Hall (Pearl's VA) probably has the cleanest social media presence. I guess being a mother and working for the Mouse at some point in your life does that to a person.

Ok I am not that into the show.

What fascinates me about the show is its WOKE positive but it doesnt make WOKE people out to be good
In fact, there’s one episode that can be interpreted as calling out fake woke people for being shit allies (Rocknaldo).
For all the craziness of the staff, they at least keep it out of the show enough so you don’t have Steven bitching about the patriarchy or crying about heteronormativity.

Just saw it, I was surprised that I enjoyed it. I think it was just what it needed to be for a movie/extended episode. Better animation, good score and whatnot.

I think my favorite part was when steven was singing with the villian above the clouds about how they could have a change of heart and the villain responded with screaming that you can't just make everything better by singing stupid sad songs and slammed him back into the stratosphere.

I still need to watch it, but I did have a fusion spoiled. And man, does that just cement the fact that Greg is just an anime protagonist that never got his own show. Steg/Greven is a definite crowd-pleaser to the female fans, it seems.

Greg is the best, He is a Rock star who impregnated his wife so hard she died and then gave up his Rock Career to raise his son as a single father knowing the kid would develop super powers.

Oh yeah, Greg kicks ass. Fitting his fusion should have that much Jojo charisma coming off him.

Ended up watching the movie with some friends the other night, so here's a quick verdict from someone who has never watched Steven Universe.

Basically, if you like Steven Universe, you'll like this. Seems like all the usual tropes are there, which does include redeeming it's villain but I think that trope was done fine. It doesn't feel like it's trying to be anything more than just more Steven Universe. Villains animation is very fun as well.

The first act is a bit annoying, especially because it's partially a regurgitation of information you probably know, but it felt mostly in service of the second act and the villain, so I will give it a shaky pass.

Alas, in true Kiwifarms fashion, I refuse to be positive, so here's things I didn't like:
  • The villain feels she would've been better executed as a TV show villain who becomes a good guy over time.
  • I feel the first act has too much padding for it's own good.
  • There's a scene where we are told things that will happen. Then those things happen. No one attempts to stop those things that we are told will happen.
  • I felt the ending could've been executed better. It just kinda felt like "Oh right, we gotta wrap things up don't we?"
Any other issues I have are me being nitpicky mcdicky, but I don't have strong feelings about it either way other than a lukewarm "That was fine", but I'm not the target audience.

I liked the movie until I noticied how poitless it ended up being.

The only character that got development was the one made for the movie, everyone else just remembered their previous development.

Also, the songs are fun in the movie because the animation distracts you, once you listen to them by themselves the lyrics become very awkward

Do you think Spinel will even be mentioned anymore afterward, anyway? I feel like this movie will kinda just be considered non-canon in a sense that the characters won't even mention what happened.

This movie reminds me alot of the Haruhi movie

- Main character starts off thinking that he's got everything finally managed
- Main character helping characters rediscover themselves
- A realization that one of the characters had to do something insane for 4000 years without anybody knowing
- A villain that isn't really a villain.

Obvious differences but they're really similar. Not an accusation of plagiarism by any means, just an observation.

"How's spinel doin"

"good"

and many more.

So they're all fucking eachother? I don't really think thats the case. That idea seems to be a Tumblr meme.

Anyway, I watched it.

Pretty alright. Some plot elements were contrived and I wasn't a fan of the "fanservicy recapping" but whatever. Worth pirating if you've committed to the show this far. It wasn't predictable but it also wasn't insane or deep like some kind of space opera... but why would you even expect that?

Negatives

-They did that thing where they create a problem instead of dealing with what they already have.
-More than half of the film is basically recap of character arcs
-Some songs are aids - especially some of the battle songs
- Having a character preach morals and use diplomacy isn't as interesting when they're in a position of power (OP)

Positives
+Pretty aesthetic
+Starts slow but it contributes to the second half
+The recaps were well done despite my bitching. They captured the spirit of the characters
+Decent comedy at points - slapstick, disturbing stuff, old-episode references, etc.

Reactions: left arm
Apparently, ethe motional backstory is that she was Pink Diamond's friend and she abandoned her and some shit.. For what I have seen, is not a fucking disaster but its just the same fucking shit that we've already seen. Sugar is not that really creative on her writting. Check out, the Regular Show Movie for example. Was a story driven movie with the focus on a conflict between the friendship between Mordecai and Rigby and was at the same time a fun an over-the-top story about time travel. It manages to be something different and fun at the same time. This movie is the same shit as the show. It doesn't go something different and doesn't do anything with the fact that is a fucking movie. The characters are the same with the same development, the villain has the exact same "muh sad" backstory" and the form that they resolve the conflict is the exact same. Is not even that bad, is just no different of what already saw. I think that should be the end of the show because you can't go anywhere from here. Of course they're gonna continue for another season, but any possibility of a new conflict has been closed because Sugar and company suck at writting story arcs. I don't expect anything from this show from now on. not that I was expecting something on the first place tbh
