I feel the big narrative problem the Gems have is that they are treated as human characters rather than Gems who have adopted humanlike characteristics.

This is definitely something that got lost over the progress of the show. Earlier episodes dealt more with gem culture and even presented them in a more magical way, at least beofre they were revealed to be aliens.

I still can't believe this shit is still going. My bet is that if the next season isn't just purely slice of life shit then it'll deal with pink pearl, since we never really got a conclusive story with her.

I like the show, but I think it's biggest problem is that it wants to be this down-to-earth slice of life show dealing with adolescent problems AND and epic space war drama. But sugar doesn't know how to mix them well.

On the slice of life side, you get issues like fusion implying sex and steven being used as everyone's therapist. On the space war side, you have issues like characters being redeemed to quickly and lack of scope and world building.

I think the show would have been better as a straight up slice of life show dealing with queer teen problems™, but I know CN would have never approved it.

Funnily enough, one of the reasons for that dip in quality was because in...I want to say Seasons 3-5(?) of Adventure Time, Rebecca was responsible for pretty much every good aspect of its most memorable episodes. The mystery, the storyboarding, the songs, the tone of the episodes, the writing; I hazily remember knowing that back in the day when I closely followed AT, but looking back now: she, Ian, and a lot of the other original Crewniverse people were pretty much carrying that show.

I mean, the entire reason I made that jump over from AT to SU was because Steven Universe just felt like "Adventure Time without the bullshit". To the point that after she left, you could tell the other staff either had no idea how to wrap up her storylines, had different plans for the show entirely, and basically floundered in trying to replicate Rebeeca's work, and failing miserably.

Tbh I liked AT more than I ever liked SU. It's been awhile since I watched, but I very much liked the tone of (S1-S3) Where it was mostly a boy having daily adventures and wanting to be the best hero. By then the only real drama was Finn's crush on PB and Ice King's past. Once season 5 started that's when it started piling all the bullshit about Finn's past and every episode became some boring surrealist metaphor.

I feel like I would be better served watching Tenchi Muyo! than this.

Yeah okay so Steven's gem is him now cause pink gave up her form to make him blah blah blah. And when Steven was hit with the rejuvenator it set his powers back to one. And we saw that when white took his gem out its form went from pink, to rose, to Steven. Would pink Steven turn back into Pink Diamond if he was hit with the rejuvenator though? Like take his gem out, poof it with the scythe to factory reset him. And pink is back.

I’m pretty sure that the fact that Pink didn’t come busting out of the Gem once it got rest shows she’s gone for good. Pulling out the Gem would just result in a reset Pink Steven in all his emotionless creepiness.

I still don’t believe that Pink is truly gone, Steven’s separation from his gem and the undercurrent of her laughter before reforming? They really should have left that audio clip out because it just makes that scene less of a moment of self acceptance and more like a reunion between a parent and child.

Was that actually confirmed to be a audio clip of her laughing, or are people just hearing things/what they want to hear? Like has it been confirmed one way or the other? Because I know some people have heard it, but o never do.

I’ve confirmed it with three other people, it’s really layered under Steven’s laughter so it’s understandably easy to miss.
Edit: at 16 seconds you hear it the best.

Another Little Golden Books-inspired SU book titled The Tale of Steven is set to come out in two weeks and pages (if not the entire book) have been leaked online.

The book itself is the usual schmaltzy, feels-inducing fluff that SU's famous for, but the atrocious formatting makes the book really difficult to read (which makes sense given that it's from the perspective of White Diamond, Rose, and Steven until some point). It's a nice addition to any sort of SU merch collection but there's one thing that makes me VERY uncomfortable with this one...

The last page has a dedication to trans kids and whatever the hell "gender-expansive" kids are these days. I would've just ignored it if it mentioned people in general but explicitly mentioning kids just rubs me the wrong way, especially given how popular transtrenderism has gotten with teens and parents with easily-fooled children. C'mon Rebecca, you were able to skirt around the complexity and ridiculousness of the trans situation in the past so why bring this up now?
Checked out the deleted comments https://archive.vn/6Iyzc and of course the "''"''transphobic comments"'"'''" are just saying kids aren't fucking mature enough to be trans/were probably pushed into it and can't understand it themselves, or just asking what in the flying fuck "gender-exceptional" even means. Because if you don't immediately adopt the latest faggot terminology through reverse osmosis over the people-of-gender collective subconscious, you're a bigot.

No no no, you see, it's not because they asked the question it's because of the way they asked it. Because despite the guy genuinely looking for an answer, the sensitive snowflakes weren't having someone say the "fuck" word.

In regards to the comments, it's about what I expected from a Steven Universe Subreddit.

So basically thinking and speaking with logic instead of fee-fees? In retrospect it’s depressing but not unexpected.

Agreed, it‘S par of the course when we’re talking about Reddit.
