I do agree with this and I think it's a good lesson, but the show shoots itself in the foot at the last second by then having him leave his support group entirely behind.
I agree. But we have to remember that this is a cartoon made by and for tumblr, and not an accredited mental health program or regimen.

Person on the left has not been up to date with the series btw.

Everyone is saying the Steven turned into to the monster.
No.
Pink Diamond/Rose Quartz/Steven Universe. the entire collective turned into the monster.
It all added up. She kept lying, she kept running.

I'm just laughing.
I'm supposed to feel sorry for this gluttonous fake god? I went through that bullshit already with Naruto
I've seen this done better with Kamen Rider Build with Katsuragi and Sento

Did anyone else find it so incredibly delusional that Steven was upset that gems didn't want to bawl their eyes out when he was leaving? I know he's mentally ill but he should've appreciated that they wanted to be strong for him on his decision. Gotta have an emotional send off huh Sugar?
Steven really is a shitty MC. Yes, he went through some bad shit and the like, but, everything about SUF relating to his angst is surface level teen drama at best. Guy is really that one drama queen who has to make everything about himself.

I've recovered from last night's drink binge but I'm not ready to give my full thoughts yet.

Twitter is currently crowing about the Steven/Connie paring being canon with the kiss and its just, no shit? There was absolutely no reason, and therefore no tension, for it not to happen. Like I said previously when the proposal episode aired she didn’t exactly turn him down, it was a gentle “not now”.

For all the worship Garnet gets for being two lesbos in blackface, Steven and Connie were the best couple in the show. And that's thanks to Connie having a fucking braincell. She saw a friend in Steven, knew his life was dangerous so she protected herself, knew being with him was when she was happiest because of her overbearing mother, and didn't want to be the literal other half of him but her own person. Sadly Connie was yet another character that was there to make Steven look good. But at least they could go longer than two days apart unlike Ruby and Sapphire. (by the way Becky and Ian said R and S were their OCs. What does that say about THEM?)

I still think this would work as an anime. The Japanese wouldn't hyper focus on Steven like the crewniverse did. They'd have made him the main character, sure, but they wouldn't have tied the "every episode must involve him" anchor around their waists. Because really, the characters had so much chance to be interesting, but they weighted them all down by making the majority of their meaningful interactions with Steven and only Steven.
They may have kept the "all gems are female" angle, but they definitely would have gone for far more appealing designs considering the anime asthetic. Just imagine the whole show in this sort of style:

Imagine if they had actually embraced the 90s anime they took inspiration from instead of doing every fucking thing they could to move away from them.

And maybe actually stuck to a fucking plotline more instead of wandering off on autistic slice-of-life episodes that nobody wanted and nobody really cared about that outright outnumbered the plot episodes. I really didn't care about the boring ass residents of beach city. A few of them were fine, most of them didn't make the show better with their inclusion.

It was a great concept, terrible execution. I think it's one of the few properties that could be improved with a reboot, assuming the original crewniverse have NOTHING to fucking do with it outside of being more or less George Lucas'd. In name only.

Having Japan animate SU would've been better than Korea. (japan loves western cartoons) But it wouldn't have happened anyway because rumour has it when Becky got Nikki Minaj, who was the top star at the time, to voice a fusion, she was too expensive to come back! Who knows how much money for talent would have been needed to make SU be better than the ugly blobs of mental issues we got had she not done that.

Steven Universe was a cute idea with a lot of potential and it just kind of failed. It should take lessons from Bee and Puppycat. Oh well.

I wonder how Rebecca's brother feels about the series now?

Learn what? How to swindle viewers into paying for more of what they saw (the pilot) only to completely change the artstyle and not even finish the season because the money ran out? Or how to whore out merchandise to keep the lights on? No, as much as I think Becky is a screw up, she got a better deal than Natasha did with production.

As for her brother, I bet whatever bad thoughts he has about it will never tell. His sister was his boss and probably why he got his job on The Owl House. Don't bite the hand that fed you.

Liking an amazing show isn’t trolling.

You do you pal. 🚬

It is rather shitty, but with what had happened and that the Gems are basically his collective moms, I guess it would be surprising that they were saying goodbye without tears in their eyes.

Still a shit thing to think tho.

During a point when I liked Steven Universe, Connie kept me going, especially when she fused (as a battle fusion, not that bullshit Gem sex scissoring fusion), she remained calm instead of freaking out.

So Ruby with an afro makes sense now. Or wait , wasn't Ruby Becky's gemstone, so that make Ian an one eyed idiot in a dress?

Well, he's an idiot at least, the crossdressing remains to be seen.

Empathy was supposed to be what defines him so it was kinda silly.

Kiwis..... Thanks for helping me dodge a bullet. This show is the epitome of SJWBS and I hope that counterculture comes to put Nuclear Waste Tier (that's a rank below Garbage Tier, which is already irredeemably bad in my book) noise like this in its rightful place ASAP.

There's nothing wrong with anime and Western fare (cartoons) taking instances / notes from one another at all. Just make sure the show, no matter what side of the world you're on???
Make sure it's actually good, as in not drowning in SJWBS like this was from the moment it actually got some semblance of good, only to shit all over it.

So many better cartoons (and maybe some anime from yesteryear) that I could be watching instead, honestly - thanks for saving me the time wasted on this, Kiwis. Thank you so goddamn much, indeed.

Ian is Sapphire, Becky is Ruby. She dedicated the children's book of The Answer to him.

Personality-wise is hard to say since they're both the same friendly nerd type but design-wise...Really?

REALLY?
Well, he's an idiot at least, the crossdressing remains to be seen.

The only idiotic thing Ian did was let korean sweatshops and lazy hacks from Tumblr degrade his cartoon to an unwatchable form. Other than that, Ian is pretty skilled. He's done comics, voice-acting, and did a webshow with Jim who's now on the (infamous) Pizza Party Podcast. That being said, weird pictures like that are sure to show up if dug deep enough. (It worked for egoraptor.)

What a shame, this whole show. Feels like Rebecca had a regular kids show planned out, and then her cowriters took it for a joyride while she couldn't say shit about it.

Its confusing how a supposed kids show had a segment about the main character suffering from PTSD out of nowhere, and then goes to having the previous villains...cry about being dumb bitches? I hopped out during the first season, and coming back to this after so many years is mind boggling.

Hold up. How much does of the rest if the world know about the existence of gems? All of these monster of the week episodes have been limited to just outside Beach City and random unnamed planets. After they were purified and rehabilitated they seem to just stick around and the townies are happy to take them in as employees or whatever, but y’know they’re used to it; the Crystal Gems have been a staple around town for hundreds of years, they’re a part of the town’s history. If one fucks off out of town, what are normies outside of this mess gonna think about it?

We are absolutely never shown the rest of the world and how it copes with monster attacks and sudden lesbian rock aliens. The whole “saving the world” thing means jack shit.

I mean, we've seen this universe's equivalent of New York City and New Jersey and they don't seem at all affected by this whatsoever. And all of the other Gem monuments/structures are all off in the middle of bumfuck nowhere anyways, so I assume everyone's either fine with it after having the Gems exist for so long, or they've just grown complacent and scared to do anything given the power the Diamonds had lauded over the entire species all those millennia ago.

...Or the Gems just didn't expand to places near completely devoid of life or resources that were useful to them, hence why Arabs still exists in a world with no religion, and why there seems to be no military around to do anything. I mean, really think about it: the fuck's a gun or tanks gonna do against a giant fuck-off mech of death, element-bending Gems, and a species that cannot die even under the most extreme circumstances?

At that point, especially with how even more primitive humanity's tech would've been back then, I'd probably just assume the position and let these two factions of Gems fight it out, and stay as far away from the conflict as possible.
