Steven Universe - Now a Griefing Thread

It’s not just “haters” though; Greg was universally loved by the fanbase for seven years because he’s a good dad, down to earth, oddly relatable and one of the few genuinely sane cast members. The last three are especially important in a show like SU. So his fanbase is more than well deserved rather than mindless dicksucking.

I’m not even going to rag on your choice in Ronaldo because once again, he’s a good idea with poor execution. Someone actually interested in the supernatural ala Dipper or Dib and questioning the Gems would be interesting in exploring the human and Gem sides interacting; if only he wasn’t used for a cheap gag that overstays it’s welcome. And Peridot still has the one of the only good redemption arcs in the show even if I don’t agree with what was done with her later.
I didn't like Steben Jewniverse nor did I really like Greg either. He was just...there for the most part. I liked the episodes with the backstories, even if some seemed unnecessary, but eh from the very beginning, I didn't really like the voice they got for the guy. I thought it was pretty lul on my first watch of this show. It constantly sounds like he's fucking straining. HEY STOO BALL! HOW YOU DOING STOO BALL? I'M HERE FOR YOU STOO BALL. I'M FUCKING CONNIE IN THE ASS, STOO BALL! Like I just didn't like that high-pitched voice even though he has a decent singing voice.

Plus, Rising Tides and Crashing Skies is my favorite episode of the OG show....so....

For me, it's Peridot...and Ronaldo
Definitely. They did my boy Ronaldo dirty.

Excuse the double post, but I just wanted to add that I recall it being said somewhere that after the Bloodstone episode, the fanbase hated Ronaldo so much that the Crewniverse just straight up killed him off as a character.

So, guys now that the show is over, And with the hindsight of all the spoilers, what are your thoughts on Pink Diamond?

I would love to read opinions about her that aren’t part of the tumblr/reddit SJW hivemind (aka sane).

Spoiled brat who got away
I still think Pink Steven, fom the original ending was just her pretending so she didn't have to face any consequence

A spoiled tyrant and a coward that never took any responsibility and got away with every awful thing she ever did. Had Rebecca not told her story out of order like a complete moron, she would have been a fascinating piece of work with her eventually finding humanity and pseudo-redeeming herself. But then Becky decided to go full physically and emotionally abusive villain angle with her and all gray areas were lost. Coupled with her never being mentioned again in Future's finale and you have a worthless character that is more or less something for Steven to be emo about.

True.

Though I have to say I do admire how good she was at fooling people that clearly were in need of guidance as if she were this deep selfless person. In hindsight, her speeches as Rose Quartz really made her sound like the opposite of what she really was.

"Never question this, you are the answer!"

" What an amazing power! the ability to grow and change. "

My point is, I can easily see why the lie of Rose Quartz was so appealing to both Greg and the crystal gems. She had this aura of being able to appreciate life in a way no one else could.

... but it really was a facade to hide she was nothing but a child roleplaying as a hero. That's one thing I will give credit to Sugar on doing right. Narcissists are incredibly charming and incredibly talented at fooling you they care about others.

That has been my thesis.
All the show had to do was have Pearl saving Rose Quartz from Pink Diamond and dealing with the fact that Pearl's actions lead up to the corruption of the Gems.....
BUT NOPE. It was all a lie. No one was free and the not civil war was basically a hissy fit.
Diamonds are basically gods. The action retroactivity made Steven a god from (not) birth.

Like E;R said, "the Mary Sue is a god pretending to be human and is at her core, a liar"

A completely nothing character / mary sue with shitty character design (just like a lot of "characters" introduced late in the show's run, honestly.) and worse writing quality that made me not only stop taking the show seriously (as if I ever was) and write it off as the Nuclear Waste of SJWBS that it ultimately is, as well.

It’s so transparent how she’s trying to court every single part of the representation checklist now that the show is over. Even Rowling would tell her to quit while she’s ahead.
Yeah, you can't. Right now the average Tumblrtard expects representation for every single minority on Earth in the media, but this isn't feasible of course, because of narrative and cultural factors. American SJWs would consider Italian pieces of media "awfully white". And they are, mainly because our percentage of POC population is ridiculous if compared to the American one. Their idea of a perfect show is a PSA for every social issue in the world, and I've seen that this kind of entitlement began to seep even in fanart and fanfiction: artists being questioned about their OCs gender, or writers berated because their way to write sex scenes is 'triggering' and not 'trans friendly'.

So, I'm not surprised that authors like Rowling and Sugar are retconning characters 'post-mortem', because is the only way to appease the most rabid fans a bit, even though it comes off as out-of-place and embarassing (and honestly, I don't know why they attacked Rowling for the lack of gays: when she began writing she was a penniless single mother who wrote a feel good story for kids, hoping to make money out of it in the process. I bet that LGBTXUSIBRE54 representation was the last of her thoughts).
EDIT: typos

Every now and then I toy with the idea of making a series of videos to pay homage to Steven Universe Italian voice actors (who are terrific). But I always decide against it, because I would probably receive comments from American fans complaining that Garnet is voiced by this talented lady
valentina_favazza.jpg
(Valentina Favazza) instead of a woman of color.

Lmao, remember when Garnet said love at first sight doesn't exist but her backstory is that two gems who never knew each other randomly banged?

Or how Pearl said humans try to blame everything on single causes like a big bad villain they can defeat to feel important, but that in reality every problem is caused by a series of complex causes and effects beyond anyone's control? But then it turned out that every single bad thing that ever happened in the show can be traced to Pink Diamond?

Or how Pearl was built up to reject her caste role of being essentially living furniture, only to be discovered that not only did she not "take" her own freedom, but willingly followed her Master for thousands of years after a fake suicide under a new identity? Like imagine a slave just sticking around a plantation after the civil war, not for tenant farming or anything like that but because "oh I just really grew attached to my master"

Yeah... It really is like EZPZ said... You shouldn't write for an easily impressionable audience like this, especially this badly. We're only creating a new age of hippies as a result (as if any SJWBS out there wasn't already doing that, too!).
No wonder I'd rather something like Glitch Techs (for an example of something I think is worth watching, by the way.) be treated better, if only to truly begin the counterculture against this kind of crap proper, anyway.

EDIT: Ninja'd by more valid criticism against terrible writing. Can't say I didn't let my guard down.

Pearls only exist to be horny sluts.
Also Sugar is a hack that can't write coherent stories at all.

Like many things about SU, there was an interesting concept buried somewhere in the Pink Diamond we saw, but it was pretty much trashed when it came to the execution.

Her whole thing is basically seeing a villain redemption arc in reverse, but I think a lot of that got lost in translation because there was such long waiting periods between the actual plot episodes (even if you marathon the series) that all the stuff about the Rose the main characters knew is long forgotten by the time you get to her Pink years, and episodes that could’ve expanded on fleshing out the connective tissue between Pink then and Rose now - and there’s certainly material to work with, Rose/Pink’s refusal to shatter Gems comes off as a little more than just "because she personally doesn’t want to be shattered" knowing that she accidentally shattered a Pearl and saw the "scars" from it afterwards, etc. - but I guess Sugar thought I was just that important to see Sadie get stage fright or Lars being a twat. Would‘ve also helped if we knew anything about Pink prior to the reveal outside of one or two inconsequential snippet, but the Crewniverse’s idea of a mystery means that Steven has to sit on his hands and not question anything until he feels like it.

Although I suspect that the Crewniverse might’ve shifted gears on Pink sometime between Change Your Mind and the movie. It seems weird that the show spent so much time going "Rose/Pink was complicated and even the people closest to her didn’t always get her motives" to a full on bastard with the how she ditched Spinel (especially with some scenes suggesting that lower Gems are physically incapable of disobeying a direct order from a Diamond) that I have to wonder if the change in tone was due to poor reception.
