Stop Killing Games (EU edition) - Moldman vs. Publishers

On one hand I like the idea behind this, on the other hand I feel like people have gotten what they deserve by supporting that shit to begin with. People continue to pay money for those kinds of games even knowing it's a temporary time limited thing that will eventually stop. That shit wouldn't even exist if people had refused to buy games with that shit baked in. Even after years of controversies and big titles reaching end of life, people still buy that shit and supporting companies like that.
I was about to say. The thing that always gets me about these movements is that they never call out the consumers for being fucking retards. It's always a milquetoast "IF YOU LIKE THIS, IT'S FINE BUT..."

Paying full price for multiplayer games that not only are doomed to be unplugged (how long it takes depends on how well the game does) coupled with shitty MTX practices should grant you the label of RETARD. The people who buy it anyway are actively working AGAINST what this movement is trying to accomplish.

I wish Ross the best of luck and I hope he succeeds and shuts me up.

The issue is that younger/new gaming people don't know anything else. ~10 years ago we gave Deus Ex: Mankind Divided shit for it's dogshit preorder schemes now when Diablo 4 did the exact same shit nobody even mentioned it (for some reason I remember this specific example because both games made a big deal about playing the game a few days earlier if you bought the most expensive pre-order), and it's the same with all the other shitty practices.
I don't think falling for exclusive preorder bonus shit is the same as games being gone forever after reaching EOL.

No it isn't, but if that's all what people know they won't find it as shitty. They'll just think it's part of the course.

I mean, that doesn't really seem that shitty if people want to waste money to play a game a few days early it doesn't really seem to make that much of a difference.

No game released in the last 10 years is worth my time or money. At least no multiplayer goyslop. I can still play Q3A and UT99 with friends no problem. No steam, no DRM, no goytransactions.
OK but that's your personal opinion, not everyone thinks like you.
This stuff is about how the gaming industry works right now, it's about protecting customers from being abused.

The pre-order is just what I've used as an example of people getting used to these kinds of things. In the end I said 'same as other shitty practices' such as killing games.

Edit: And the issue isn't generally just pre-ordering something, it's cutting existing game content up to be sold separately which is something IIRC both games I mentioned did.

Yeah that is some bullshit but again this wouldn't be a thing if people didn't buy games like that. I'd have more sympathy towards all of this if we were talking about something essential but these are entertainment products. You could just play a different game, nobody's forcing people to go out and buy these games but people do.

I hope this goes well. I especially hate this shit when it comes to gachaslop/mobile games. All that effort from both talented artists and a passionate fanbase that purchased in game cosmetics, just to have nothing to show for it once the killswitch is activated on the central server. Which is why I will never understand gachafags.

Why put in all that effort to grind away or roll for a character drop when its just going to be deleted at a third party's whim some day, likely within 1-3 years, and you will be left with nothing but a bricked client app? I can still play the original halo games on my 360, but I can't say the same for most mobile games. Though I know the artists are obviously there for a paycheck.

Some do offer offline collection apps or even an offline version, but that's a rarity when it should be a industry standard. With modern devices there is no technical limitation to having a limited time offer of about a month to have your account info in order and download a copy of your player account locally and continue to play on an offline version of the game with all the cosmetics you purchased. Hell even 343 industries of all companies offered to do that with copying over the file share contents of the 360 games to the MCC years before the servers went down.

They are free to be wrong, yes.

about protecting customers from being abused.
The customer is not a child, nor is he a junkie. Stop buying this slop for fucks sake. If you see "online required" put down the the fucking credit card, and instead rant and rave how it's shit. This has worked since the free market was a thing. I'd get your point if these were utilities but for Christ sakes were talking about entertainment here. "Oh please daddy government please make the bad man stop selling us and then screwing us"

We used to make fun of petitions on the old /v/ days, but having a petition to the government? That's a new level of cuckery right there

Probably because the act of shit-talking the customer, as this forum has documented hundreds of lolcows doing as such for over 11 years now, is generally considered a retarded idea.

People stopped buying a ton of online-only slop, and the current Computer Game publisher consensus is to keep making online-only slop. Boycotts are just as Autistic and ineffective as petitions.
Ross Scott, YouTuber known for Freeman's Mind and his Game Dungeon series, is on a mission to stop the deliberate destruction of video games.
To achieve this, he has launched an EU Citizens' Initiative and has one year to collect 1 million signatures from EU citizens.

If you are an EU citizen, simply visit https://www.stopkillinggames.com/eci and follow the instructions.
My money remains on the EU doing nothing about it, because they're too busy dealing with political autism than gaming autism. Case in point: Their crackdown on farmers blocking the roads and filling the streets with cow shit + the snap election shitshow in France + the current mass-REEEING sessions from both the Palestine Simps AND the Extinction Rebellion/Just Stop Oil retards.

People complained about expansion packs and trial-based freeware being a big scam. And they bought both Wolfenstein 3D and DOOM (1994) in their droves. It's always been a problem for a long time, and it does not discriminate by age group. And again, boycotts do fuck all and anyone who thinks otherwise is just as braindead as Cyraxx (worse, I reckon).

Cool. This changes what? My point still stands - do you *need* current year slop to game? Do you not have a backlog to last you a lifetime?

I haven't touched a modern game in years now. I see people like synth from time to time to laugh at the new modern and shiny games which are as deep as a puddle. Just let it die. It's already at its deathbed, don't prolong the process

Having read all the replies I'm convinced nobody actually fucking watched the video or knows what Ross is trying to do in the first place. :stress:
I have as a matter of fact. I've also seen Ross' song and dance commence back in 2013 on his Game Dungeon video on Test Drive 3 (as well as his videos on both Battleforge and Darkspore) and even then I knew it wasn't going to work. Call me cynical. But that's how these things always conclude. The Farms has documented such failures for as long as it has existed both as a gossip forum and a discovery resource for multiple users around the world. Sue me or call me a cuck as much as you want.

My point is that even when these games flopped, the publishers' current consensus in response to this, wasn't to go "Hey we should stop making this" but instead was and still is "we must/will keep making this".

Your point implies that boycotting this is doing an effective dent against these companies who can buy your entire family the same way you buy a glass of milk and that this is just a "Modern gaming issue", which I've pointed out as COMPLETE FUCKING BOLLOCKS and you're a retard for thinking otherwise, just like the retards who keep buying the games that DO sell well. You are one person and as it stands, you're an ignorable speck in their eyes. Also, define "Modern", because I've already noted in an earlier post that people were doing this sort of thing back in the 1990s, during the so-called "golden age" of the industry, tolerating bad business practices and even out and out malicious behaviour at best and flagrantly ignoring it at worst.

In contrast to the Manic Street Preachers, they've already taken your kids and have laughed their way out of Hamelin to the deep-pocketed Banks of Frankfurt. The time for retribution has long since passed.

Yes, what the game industry needs is regulation! A constant stream of games must be pumped into our bloodstreams or we die!

The AAA gaming industry will lobby to define what reasonably working state legally means in "Require video games sold to customers to be in a reasonably working state at the time of shutdown / end of support". (like what range of hardware is it required to be in a reasonably working state? any hardware that has over 10k units still in use?). Whats the punishment for failing to comply? A fine? Something AAA companies can laugh at but could effectively bankrupt an indie studio? (Look up cobra effect, you fucking niggerbrains)

Instead of dipping into everyone elses pockets to enable your dopamine addiction, just stop buying games from the companies that pull this shit. Don't buy them for your kids either. If you're really that much of a crack addict, pirate it.
