Stop Killing Games (EU edition) - Moldman vs. Publishers

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
BeamNG peeps are real G's. Game is still in "alpha", yet with every update they add more and more content at the same price, and for Krauts they're really chill about piracy. Apparently there are authenticity checks where if failed, you'd get a very nice message from the team with a badass background.

Personally, never encountered it, copying the Steam files is all it takes to pirate it. Then again, I paid for it on Steam cuz they deserve it and fuck downloading >50GB from piracy sites every time a new update rolls out.

BeamNG team also does simulation work for the automotive industry, so they're a talented bunch, and a wacky, highly realistic driving sim is only one of their frontiers. No wonder a corporate lobbying group left them in the dark on this, hopefully they step up and cause a ruckus.
Bit late for this, but goddamn, i love BeamNG. The devs are working on the game for more than a decade now, so i understand why they wouldn't stand for VGE's BS. They probably know how would it feel to spend 10 years of your life working on something, that can just disappear at any time, because some Excel spreadsheet says so at the publisher's office.
Seriously, playing this game often feels like piracy, i gave them 20 yuros like 5 years ago, and every 3-or-so months they are like:
>here's 2 brand new vehicles with tons of variants
>oh and we also completely remastered this older vehicle, and added a shitton of new variants
>oh, and a completely new gamemode (example: rally)
>oh, and some new scenarios to play with the new vehicles
>oh, and some bugfixes, and expansions for the stuff we added previously
>have fun, see ya in 3 months!

Not to mention that the driving physics are awesome now too, i often catch myself just cruising around, or pushing some shitbox to it's absolute limit, instead of just slamming cars into walls.
And it looks like the much requested tyre physics update is in the works now.

Uberlate, but I haven't seen those two videos brought up in the thread, so I'm gonna do it.

The man with a massive and evergreen hate boner for Apple (justified) explains why VGE's statement on Stop Killing Games is not only dishonest, but also a massive mask off moment for the industry as a whole:

I've posted a LegDrop video on the subject before, and while this one doesn't add anything substantial, - in terms of immediately relevant info, - there's one moment I wanted to highlight, timestamped:
<snip> The truth is, the video game industry isn't headed towards some cyberpunk dystopia, it already is one, and the players are finally standing up to take back control.
I TOLD YOU GUYS WE LIVE IN A CYBERPUNK DYSTOPIA IT'S JUST THAT IT'S FUCKING BORING AND PAINFUL

...seriously, though, video games, being less... easily reproducible than movies, books and music combined is such a huge factor in why the goyming/gay-ming/grooming industry exerts so much control, it practically feels like Real Communism™. When proper physical media dies for those three, it's not gonna be the end of the world: you can just very very legally download whatever you enjoy, put it on a NAS, and then re-download it on your phone which can easily do *.mp4's, *.epub's and *.mp3's, no matter which year those came from. Vidya, conversely, can not only get super bloated, but also require state-of-the-art hardware scams and perpetual online connection to whatever data centres just in order to run the thing - and unlike with movies, streaming eliminates the first two but is heavily reliant upon the third.

Even if SKG wins, - and by god, I hope it does, - the way the gay industry's going, the AAA(A) titles will eventually be just ginormous LLM's. Perpetually online, too. Sounds insane, but with how tanky, smeary and hyperrealistic the graphical trends are nowadays (temporal anti-aliasing, raytracing, frame generation because the first two are so resource-intensive people with 144Hz monitors need crutches for those), I will not be surprised if games will be deadass AI-generated in five years.

And would you ever want to play those, it's gonna be a "you have to be there" kind of experience - so like with the arcades, but worse.

SKG mentioned today at the European Commission press conference. Let's go, gamers. We need to keep the train going.

Video Games Europe Just DECLARED WAR on Stop Killing Games
Those are not arguments in good faith.

Fucking idiots, we can hope that their straw-mans on SKG are so retarded that the opposition (Ross & co.) just destroy and leave them without any counter-argument near instantly, i.e: their stupidity getting punished for once.

It's not about the arguments, it's about the force with which you apply them. First you say no, then you say you understand customer concerns, then you say you want to improve as an industry without government intervention, then you propose a watered-down law they can pass without really getting in the way. Remember the UK government did something similar with their reply to SKG when they forced a government response.
If they can come up with somewhat plausible arguments and give up enough space to get the EU off their back, they'll be fine. If they fuck up and come with arguments about videogames being licenced rather than owned they might get in trouble.

One of the Europarliament Vice Presidents (there's 14) came out in support of SKG.
it's as ross predicted, easy fucking W for the lazy fucks to gloat over their voter base and appeal the young voters too.

they will try to lobby their way but this is on the hopium for SKG as if any politician reads the petition it will disarm any attempt at "licensing" talk shit the lobbyists might pull but that just means they will offer some money to some politicians to turn a blind eye anyway behind closed doors.
