Here's a show quite a few of you may not have heard of - except perhaps older britbong Kiwis: Stressed Eric.
It follows the day to day life of the subtly named Eric Feeble, a down on his luck office worker who has to deal with being on the receiving end of everyone's mockery, derision and scorn even though he tries his best to scrape by.
His shitty living conditions are worsened by him being a divorced father caring for two disabled children (one who only mumbles and has pica, and another who is allergic to everything) together with a drunk portuguese maid who can't do her job without causing problems or picking up some criminal charge every episode, an ex-wife who does nothing to help except use him for whatever new-age bullshittery she's into at the moment and his rich, successful next-door neighbors rubbing said riches and success in his face every chance they get.
Add in a boss who berates him at every opportunity while singing the praises of the aforementioned neighbors (Eric and the dad work at the same company), a secretary more interested in learning phonegossip-ese than helping him in anything, and Eric's doctor who cares less about helping his patient than banging every nurse that comes his way, and you've got a hilarious, and frankly underrated, show.
Episodes follow the same formula: Eric has to do something, world makes sure everything that could go wrong for him does, making him more and more stressed as the episode goes on.
This culminates in his stress reaching a boiling point and his bulging stress vein gaining sentience and strangling him. (I assume the creators originally wanted to show Eric necking himself, rope and all, but had to settle for that to evade censors, this show was made when more boundary-pushing adult cartoons were just starting to go mainstream - it predates Family Guy by a year)
It's animated by Klasky-Csupo in their usual style that was all the rage back then for some reason, but here it adds a lot to the dark tone of the show, especially the fucked up London the characters live in. Besides a few 90s relics, it could easily take place in current day London.
Oh it also made the turning red guy mad so it's a masterpiece by default
