In light of the recent announcement for Stuntman: Hollywood, it's time for a thread.
Stuntman: Hollywood reveal trailer
The first Stuntman released on Playstation 2 in 2002. The sequel Stuntman: Ignition released in 2007 on both the Playstation 2 and 3 as well as XBOX 360. The first one is infamous for fooling many youngsters (myself included) in to thinking it was a racing game. Instead, you play as a stunt man driving through various movie set pieces, trying to hit prompts and achieve a minimum score to move to the next level. It can become notoriously difficult on some levels, the best example being the train riding sequence at the start of the second Whoopin n Hollerin level.
Whoopin N Hollerin, the second movie/set of levels was the early game filter, where most kids decided "fuck this" and played something else.
I recall one of the James Bond levels taking my friend and I multiple evenings just to beat it. We learned some valuable anger management skills those days.
You play through a couple of movies in game that are obvious homages to real films and shows such as Snatch, Dukes of Hazard, 007 and Indiana Jones. At the end of each set of levels you're treated to the movie trailer intercut with replay footage of your gameplay.
I never played Ignition much, the combo system and more arcade-like gameplay threw me off. The Batman inspired levels were really cool though.
Noobs and casuals complained about following the damn train in GTA SA whilst us Stuntman enjoyers were experiencing our first hernias to the sound of "CUT! KEEP UP WITH LEAD CAR" for the 17'000th time.
I'm tempering my excitement for Stuntman: Hollywood until I see gameplay. The Knightrider section got me hyped, then I saw the Deloreon. Multiple nostalgic IPS mingling in a new piece of media has not been a mark of good quality lately, though I guess if any game could do it, it would be one that's all about movie homage, like Stuntman.
What the hell would the Back to The Future levels even look like?
