I'm too young for Mew under the truck, but here's what I remember hearing:
  • Team Mario is unlockable in Sonic Heroes
  • Batman appears as an easter egg in Skate 2
  • You can kill kids in Skyrim (this was the day it came out, they said they stayed up playing it that morning)

Stand in the middle of Lon Lon Ranch at noon and fire an arrow into the sun. This will unlock a portal to the Temple of Light in the Sacred Realm. The room to the right in the Temple of Light is the Chamber of Sages and the room to the left is where the Triforce is kept.

Once you get the Triforce your collection screen will be complete. Don't listen to those faggots on GameFAQs that tell you to beat the Running Man to unlock the Temple of Light they have no idea what they are talking about.

Children were meant to be in GTA III. Or that you had to fly a plane in a building as a mission.

Friend told me that if you died on the Cradle level in Goldeneye like 50 times, they'll show Bond's funeral.
Pretty sure I died more than 50 times trying to beat that level; could have confirmed that as false.

I remember one particular edition of Nintendo Power (it might have been an April Fool's Day gag?) where they had a photoshopped image of Sonic from Sonic Adventure 2 in Super Smash Bros. Melee. They claimed that if you beat 100 enemies in Cruel Melee (that game mode where you fight waves of wire frame enemies who do insane damage and take forever to kill) then you'd unlock him. Smash Bros. rumors were always my favorite ones. There was another one about unlocking Giga Bowser in Melee that turned out to be a hack.

There's an landfill in New Mexico that was filled with the very thing that nearly killed the industry. The game was so revolutionary that the creators had locked it away because they were afraid that people would pirate the source code.

Back in 2011 I think there was someone on /v/ going by the name "The Oracle" and using a Precursor statue from Jak and Daxter as their image, they claimed to have insider info that Sony was going to exit the video game business, no more PlayStation after the PS3, this was met with jubilancy from posters that finally, PlayStation 3 and Sony was finished.

Flash forward almost a decade later and we got the PS4 and PS5, so much for that rumor.

Stupid rumors I heard? Man there were so many regarding the Triforce in Ocarina of TIme. One I kind of remember was something about there being a portal in the dead tree in Lake Hylia that would take you to some witch who would lead you to the Light/Sky temple or something.

Lots of GTA rumors. If you managed to get all of the gang cars on the 7 lifts in Portland Darkel would unlock, Bigfoot in the woods of San Andreas. Rat King in the subways of GTA IV.

I was a bit young at the time but I remember my cousin being absolutely fascinated with Mortal Kombat rumors.

Mew under truck was a big one that I heard up until I was 18 in 2007. Someone I worked with at a grocery store who was actually a year older than me told me it was totally real. She was kind of a sperg though.

There's a weird one I've never ran into outside a small group of people in my hometown that's always baffled me.

So Final Fantasy 3 (US). When I was an early teenager it was the new popular hotness, and a lot of us being poor kids and nerds couldn't afford it so we rented this one copy from a local mom and pop video store. There's a scene where Kefka trashes a town and murders a bunch of espers. The only thing that got discussed about that scene wasn't the content but rather one incredibly out of place line from Kefka : 'I haven't had this much fun since I made love to my dead sister'. This was a big thing to us because holy shit a video game saying something that edgy was unheard of and multiple people claimed to have seen it. Naturally nothing like that is actually in the game but it was weirdly pervasive for a long, long time and I always wonder if that specific copy was a pre-release or something.

"how to unlock tabuu ridley and master hand on SSBB. THIS IS NOT FAKE! Im really sserios, i will delete your comments if you are saying its not true"
However, you may play as masterhand without cheat codes (IE Gameshark) in SSB for the GameCube.

The Unicorn Fountain was hidden behind that little alcove under the water in Zora's Domain. That alcove is weird and I heard a chest was placed there early on or was supposed to be and that was it. People who glitched behind the wall found nothing.

All those ressurect Aeris rumors too. But before that I tried everything I could to resurrect Nei in Phantasy Star 2. It doesn't help that the clone clown tells you that you should lay Nei to rest on a plateau above Paseo. I assumed this was somewhere north of town, maybe near the riverbank. So I did all kinds of weird button combos ect... I even dumped all her gear there. Nothing. For years I really believed there was a way. It's weird that a ribbon is sold in Ryuon when Nei never even makes it to Dezo. Although I guess that was some weird oversight. I thought the ribbon was the answer and tried all sorts of things on Dezo to get her back.
