This might be a stupid idea, but I was thinking about military medals last night and I thought it might be a good idea to do something like that here. Maybe the site could expand the current tag system (the tags that appear under usernames) to include new tags that function as rewards for doing things that are of service to the site. Maybe instead of just having the true and honest fan tag, you could have a couple of tiers of that tag that you need to earn through donations. You could have a 'thread creation' medal for users that have brought a thread from the Prospering Grounds to the Lolcow board. Finally, you could also have a medal for users that have render some sort of extra-ordinary service to the site. In my state of immense sleep-deprivation, I thought it would be funny if this medal was based on the German Iron Cross and was called the 'Crayola Model Magic Cross'. Like the Iron Cross, it would have three levels that the recipients would progress through with the final level being the most prestigious: the Crayola Model Magic Cross Second Class, the Crayola Model Magic Cross First Class, and the Knight's Cross of the Crayola Model Magic Cross. Awarding the Crayola Model Magic Cross would be left to the discretion of Null or some other janny.

I would advise that, if my idea sounds good, you try not to go too far with it. It would look really bad if users could get some sort of medal for taking a shit or sneezing.

Nah, I mean kinda like 'Featured Content' for individual cows.
For example, Boogie claimed to not drink any soda. That would go on the board, along with a current status of the claim. That way, when he is exposed to still be drinking soda, we would remember that he promised not to drink soda and it won't be lost in the hundreds of other lies he tells.

Not sure if this has been suggested before, but it'd be really useful for a button or some way to go to the latest highlighted post.

When I read though a thread on someone and I've tangentially heard of something recent in relation to them, its most often a highlighted post. If there's huge activity on that thread though, this might be a dozen pages from the last and the site being slow (especially on tor), this takes ages and gets annoying.

I clicked around random threads and at the top of every OP is a 'Next Highlight' button. The OP is always Highlighted.

Yes, but if there is no "Next Highlight" because you're on the last page, that button does nothing. Effectively I need the same functionality of that button, but for the previous highlight. That way, when I go to the last page, I can press it and be sent to the latest highlight.

Yes, but the first highlight doesn't have a "go to previous highlight" button because there is no previous highlight, and you can't go straight to the last highlight from there either.

And, going backwards through the thread to find the last highlight (which Kikemaster wanted to avoid to begin with), that last highlight would be the first to even have a "go to previous highlight" button.

Well, you can't see points without going out of your way to and I also think that points serve a different purpose. Points are basically just reddit updoots awarded by the users. Medals would be displayed below usernames and wouldn't be awarded for just highly updooted posts (we already have points for that). Something like a CMMC would only be given for some exceptional service to the site. Maybe a post would count, but only if it was something that new, funny, and impactful being brought to the site; something so impactful that it got put on the front page.

Oh, my bad.

Trophy points are closer to what I was talking about, but they are still hidden away on the user's profile and most of them are related to either updoots or specific events. Maybe a lot of what I suggested could be accomplished in spirit by just adding my suggestions to the points system, but I still think medals are cooler.
